http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhut_Jolokia_chili_pepper The Bhut Jolokia (Assamese: ভূত জলকীয়া bhut jôlôkia; Bangla: নাগা মরিচ naga morich), as it is commonly known—also known variously by other names in its native region, sometimes Naga Jolokia—is a chili pepper previously recognized by Guinness World Records as the hottest pepper in the world. The pepper is typically called the ghost chili or ghost pepper by U.S. media Description: The ghost pepper takes on many forms - pepper spray, hand grenades, smoke bombs… and now salsa! Made from the hottest pepper in the world. I just tried some of this, at first it feels like a very hot salsa, then you feel the fire as it engulfs your tongue in an inferno of hellish torment. In 2000, India's Defence Research Laboratory reported a rating of 855,000 heat units on the Scoville scale, and in 2004 a rating of 1,041,427 units was made using HPLC analysis. For comparison, Tabasco red pepper sauce rates at 2,500–5,000, and pure capsaicin (the chemical responsible for the pungency of pepper plants) rates at 15,000,000–16,000,000 SHU. Take that Ami Anne! Current hottest pepper. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naga_Viper_pepper The Naga Viper pepper was the official holder of the Guinness World Records "World's Hottest Chilli" record as of February 25, 2011. The Naga Viper was created in England by chilli farmer Gerald Fowler of The Chilli Pepper Company, based in Cark, Cumbria. It is an unstable three-way hybrid produced from the Naga Morich, the Bhut Jolokia and the Trinidad Scorpion (some of the world's hottest peppers).Due to its hybrid nature, it is unable to produce offspring exactly like the parent due to segregation of alleles and therefore traits. The Chilli Pepper Company is continuing its work to stabilize the variety. IP: Logged |

I put a teaspoon of this in with weaker, but more flavorful salsa's. That is all you need to make it dance. I even started putting some in my taco's. Yum!And no, I do not get the "burn from down under" with this. I have got the burn from lesser salsa's... go figure! I pretty much use this as a "booster" salsa, It's too much eating it straight. Honestly my favorite salsa. Hot with a hint of sweetness. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habanero_chili The habanero's heat, its fruity, citrus-like flavor, and its floral aroma have made it a popular ingredient in hot sauces and spicy foods. IP: Logged |

Yeah, I've tried ghost chillies before. As in I-put-my-nose-in-the-jar-and-took-a-whiff kind of trying. My eyes started watering. That was the end of THAT experience. LOL.IP: Logged |
