I've had some coconut oil in the h9ouse - both refined and unrefined - for a little while now, and have to say that I don't like it in green smoothies, or for cooking an omelet. Walter and Emily liked their scrambled eggs, but Dora wouldn't touch them, and I didn't like my omelet. I ended up grabbing a very wrinkled green pepper from the fridge, slicing it up, and serving it around the leftovers on a plate, for the wild critters outside. If you use it. how do you like it? It was more palatable for me, with coconut milk, raspberries and a banana in a smoothie. I love coconut water in smoothies, but the coconut milk was too thin without the banana. IP: Logged |

I use coconut oil for cooking. It's excellent in Thai dishes, of course, but if you are stir-frying veggies and use some coconut oil, it gives them a really nice flavor. You can make pretty good raw vegan sweets with coconut oil. There are some good recipes out there. I haven't had much luck putting coconut oil in baked goods - the oil burns too fast and if you are making a pie, your crust will burn.

Yin! What a lovely surprise!I was wondering about in in baked goods, too. I only used a teaspoon in the smoothie, and I felt like it was caked with it - I licked my lips, and they felt greasy. I might go back to flax oil for those. I was skimming the book The Coconut Diet, but I don't think I can take several tablespoons per day. IP: Logged |

I just skipped buying a smoothie yesterday due to its having coconut oil in. I am not sure if it is a 'good' type of oil? Isn't it cold pressed or something? And I would rather have no oil at all in my smoothies thank you very much (yuck!). IP: Logged |

I don't really notice Flax Oil in the smoothies. Coconut oil is a saturated fat; I think that's why I'm having trouble with it in that way (coating everything). I loved flax oil blended with ovaltine and milk, for years... not every day, but it was a quick fix for my terrible hair tangles and it getting more and more dry in recent years. At one point, I didn't have a pimple for months, and I had remarks on how shiny my hair was. I like the slight nutty taste, but not the ground flax seeds themselves in a smoothie. they had a weird taste, for some reason. IP: Logged |

Yeah I love flax seed oil and even the ground stuff I love it in salads. But never on smoothies (yuck). I like my smoothies as plain as possible with protein powder, fresh fruit, milk or yogurt. That's it. Some people go overboard with smoothies. For me, they taste so strongly you want to keep the balance in taste right. IP: Logged |

Oh, forgot to add: Coconut oil is a fantastic moisturizer! I use it to massage my skin. You only need a tiny bit. Your skin absorbs it pretty good, so you really don't need to ingest it if you don't want to.I use flax meal in my smoothies. It thickens them and they taste more like pudding than anything. It's delicious. I also use chia seeds to thicken things. Try chia with raw milk and a bit of honey - delicious! IP: Logged |

I read about using cocunut oil in the prevention of alzheimers, so I bought a jar it's not actually oil but a paste, anyway I don't like the taste. Does it actually come in an oil form?IP: Logged |

Coconut oil can change its consistency depending on temperature. It looks more like hard white butter or lard when it's cold. Warm it up and see if it becomes a liquid. Don't eat it straight, use it in stir fries, soups or even as a body cream - you'll still get the benefits through your skin. IP: Logged |

I keep looking at that tub of coconut oil - I've had it for almost two months now - and thinking that I should use it for on my face and neck, at least. I've been using shea butter on my lips - a mixture that my sister made some time back and left in the fridge. I've also used a dab of coconut oil in milky smoothies, but it still sits on the top of the veggie ones. IP: Logged |
