If it's bland, then why the big appeal?

It's like playing Russian Roulette.

In case you didn't know, Fugu is Pufferr Fisk aka Blowfish. Fugu contains lethal amounts of the poison tetrodotoxin in its organs.

Eating the fish as is kills people most of the time. The government licenses select chefs to prepare the fish for consumption, and once in a while, it still accidentally kills. Folks who consume that stuff at home are just downright suicidal.

To reiterate, Fugu kills. That's the sick appeal. If I knew it was Fugu, I probably wouldn't have partaken. But I had no idea I ate Fugu, and was informed after the meal was finished, at which time I wanted to kill my brother

Ah. Well, I'm no fan of Russian Roulette.

I think he was saying Fugu is bland (never had it). Most sashimi and sushi rolls arent. They are some of the tastiest food you could eat.

Live a little and stop eating at Waffle Houses, BKings, Arby's, Taco Bell and Olive Gardens and taste some real food for once.

btw, I bet you all of those places would give you parasites and worms way before a restaurant serving top quality sushi would.

jus' sayin'.

I worked for a fine dining Chinese food restaurant before, for many years. Had to wear the whole tuxedo get up and everything.

It was there that I learned what REAL Chinese food was (they had the freshest sushi too). Here they refer to our "Chinese food" as "American chinese food". It is not the same.

I'd eat with them before and after every shift - as a family. & their "chinese food" was like nothing you'd get off their menu, or in the restaurant. Americans want "american chinese food when they go out. Wheather it's "Fine" or not.

They (the family/staff) loved me and accepted me as one of the only non-chinese girls there (there was another, but she only stayed briefly) Best food I've ever had. & yeah, i miss it and them all a lot. Real chinese food is killer.

...wish I remembered the bit of Chinese I learned there. I knew basic words and restaurant phrases. When I'm not so stressed out, i bet some of them will come back to me.

When I needed something complicated translated to someone behind the line, I'd get one of the guys that was well versed in English to do so. I'd crack them all up alot trying to talk in Chinese...asking other servers how to say this and that and go back to the kitchen and try to repeat it. LOL Good times.

Probably one of the funnest restaurnats I worked at. One of their mothers - she had to be in her 80's did the dishes on the weekends. She hated me at first (for no reason, i can think of, i was always super nice to her -- i think because I was a white American girl ) but later warmed up to me and actually cracked a smile sometimes and didnt yell at me so much.

Great experience that I'll never forget. I miss it in a way...

and I knew they were laughing at my goofy @ss most of the time, and not with me, but that's how they all came to love me, because I had no ego around it and didnt care and could laugh at myself too.

Not many poeple could handle that for very long without getting aggreavated. I didnt mind being the clown that they all laughed at at first. Eventually they all came to respect and love me. Could go back there to this day and eat for free.

i hear chinese food is really bad over there too. though i hear vegas is good. i respect the cuisine as one of the best after french but it's not for me. i find it too oily and i've eaten in the best chinese restaurants in the world. namely those in china/ hong kong. i lose my appetite when it is dimsum. dislike the stuff. but u know this taurus would still eat like he liked it!

Yeah, this Taurus isnt too picky either.

I don't know what any of it was called. It was just way different than what one over here thinks of as Chinese food. Good old fashioned Chinese home-cooking, is what it was, i suppose. The way they liked it and remembered it. We would have a nice spread and feast before shift, during downtime before it got busy again, and ate after shift (if we wanted to) as well. I didnt realize, until i worked there that "our" chinese food was nothing like what they served over there.

I didnt find it oily. Just delish.

Nice that youve got to actually eat over there. Maybe someday I'll be able to.

Well, there's the issue of what type of Chinese food you consumed. There are up to 30 dialect groups, each with their own style of cuisine.

I'm full Chinese. Dad's folks came from Northern Guangdong province and Mom's folks came from Fujian province. I can assure you the food is different in each province you transverse. And nothing is like American Chinese food, which I also like. Those dishes in a Chinese restaurant in America don't exist outside of America. And it's also different in England and France. There's even Chinese food in Scandinavia that is unique.

I didnt know you were Spanish, peregrine!

I'm not sure what parts the people I worked with where from. Was a large restaurant and I know some of them at least where family....or made up of people from different families. No one in the kitchen spoke English, which presented challenges when we got slammed.

Thanks I'll check it out at some point when I'm not so busy with things to get done. I'm overwhelmed atm.

Yeah! I remember reading you are Philippino....and Irish. and Spanish. Do you speak any Spanish? I think Spanish is my favorite language. I think it sounds beautiful, even though I only know a handful of basic words now.
