Ok, wheatgrass can be kind of gross. I am trying to make it good. It is awful with watermelon juice.
It is the best with pineapple. It may be good with mango. Need to try that and will.

I use a Champion juicer and juice both together--wheatgrass and the pineapple. THis is totally palatable.

If you like cayenne peppers, they cut the wheatgrass taste too, such that you can't taste it at all.
I did that today and it was the easiest drinking of it.

I bet grape juice would cover it.

I've put it in green smoothies before, and I usually add a few packets of stevia and some vanilla extract to my green smoothies. Sounds weird but tastes good, especially once you adjust to the taste. (Along with ICE!...warm smoothies are yucky.)

You're on the right track with pineapple and mango. Oranges and lemons are good, too, and bananas and dates. Not only do they taste right, they make the drink look pretty, unlike berries which turn it brown.

many say that anything citrus will negate the effects of wheat grass. If you cant handle it on its own, try with something non acidic like carrot juice. Or perhaps go for a green juice like an apple- kale-romaine-cucumber etc!Apple isnt acidic and sweetens the greens.

My fave juice blend:
Kale ( curly and lacinato)
romaine
cucumber
3 lemons
watercress
spinach
celery
dandelion

you can add an apple if you need sweetening.

This is a mega green juice, you'll feel amazing! its much easier on the stomach..wheatgrass can really upset the stomach.

In what way does it negate the effects?

Well I researched it, and all I found was one comment saying that the lemon speeds the oxidation of the wheatgrass juice...which shouldn't be a problem if you drink it right away, anyhow.

Wheatgrass juice has such a broad range of therapeutic efffects, I can't see how lemon could nullify all of them. Generally speaking, citrus helps with the assimilation of minerals from greens.

Are people saying there is something different about wheatgrass juice that makes it more vulnerable than other green juices? To me that just sounds odd.

I have The Wheatgrass Book by Ann Wigmore and Victoria Boutenko's Green Smoothie Revolution. Neither book warns against combining citrus with wheatgrass, and both authors are experts on green juices.

Sorry, don't mean to sound defensive, I'm just really curious: what's going on with this rumor?

For me it depends on how my blood sugar is doing when I drink it. If I take it when I'm a bit woozy from hunger, I will get sick from the juice. But I've only made that mistake once~ wouldn't try it again.

Are there wheatgrass side effects?

There are a few mild wheatgrass side effects, the most common of which include: headaches, nausea, diarrhea, and allergic reactions. Drinking wheatgrass properly, by taking it on an empty stomach and not in combination with other food/drink, greatly reduces the chances of these side effects.

Headaches and nausea are common amongst new wheatgrass drinkers, and often subsides within a few days of regular use as the wheatgrass takes effect. This can be due to new users not being used to the taste or drinking too much. It can also be caused by the detoxing effect of wheatgrass, as it rapidly removes toxins from the body. This is why symptoms usually subside in a few days.

Diarrhea is typically caused by drinking too much wheatgrass. Beginning with 1 oz/day and very gradually increasing can avoid this.

It's also possible to exhibit allergic reactions to wheatgrass such as rashes, throat swelling, or breathing difficulty. These are usually seen in those with wheat allergies other than gluten, grass allergies, or mold allergies. Mold can be quite common on improperly grown wheatgrass, so if you have a known allergy to mold we suggest being cautious.

Hi!

You know, I am not entirely positive it will "ruin" the effects, however wheatgrass is highly alkaline, so using it with orange juice ( for example) will dilute the alkaline. Lemon, is a different story- lemon juice is alkalizing. You can drink fresh lemon juice with filtered water for a alkalizing effect.

But you know how people are..some are a bit more fanatical than others, lol. all in all i think its best to do what is right for the individual.

I got sick of it and have not planted it for a few months. It is super strong and that is good. It is an awesome thing but it does get hard to tolerate.

There's a drink called The Green Machine, and it's not too strong in it.

I have to start it again. It got gross but it is so good for you and you need just an ounce, so it is silly to not do it, if you can.
