Least used, most prized, appliance or kitchen gadget in your possession? Something you rarely use but would never give up? Maybe a sentimental hand-me-down or status symbol? What would it be ... For you?(I'm downsizing, releasing a lot of possessions. Kitchen and dining room items are hardest for me to let go. I was putting something into the "I will never use that" pile and changed my mind a week later thinking, "someday I will use that" Now I'm thinking "someday" is not a day of the week, but I still can't let it go) IP: Logged |

I'll tell you what it is later. There's a story behind it.

Well, there is a secret recipe in our family. I mean secret. For years my Aunt never wrote it down, and then one day she shared it with all the other Aunts, my mom was included. I guess she got tired of being the only one to make it for all of the family gatherings. Friends and relatives drool when there is an event and they know this recipe is being served. It happens to be a recipe for a special kind of roast beef sandwich, but you will never find anything like it anywhere and it's impossible to describe. There was talk of opening a restaurant to serve only this one item, that's how special it is. Anyway, you need a meat slicer to make uniform slices. I was gifted a meat slicer, but when my mother finally shared the recipe with my siblings, I had to write it down in code and I forgot where I put it, so I never made this dish on my own. I guess I will never get rid of that meat slicer because of the secret recipe. I eat much less meat now, maybe or twice a month, and my family is down to me and one child at home, so even using it for lunchmeats is impractible. Ok... now tell me yours. IP: Logged |

In Code?I think I would use Theban. Or maybe Hebrew. Well, anyway. I guess it would be my Rolling Pin. My Aunt knew how much I loved making (& more to the point, eating) homemade tortillas, so she saw to it that when the time came, I was bequeathed her Mother's rolling pin. It was wrapped up in one of those old Tupperware flats for piecrust, you know, it had the circumferences for eight-nine inch rounds on it. My Grandmother's rubberbands clutching it tight. Well, anyway, as I told you, I really, really like to use my Colander Pestle for rolling things out, it's far more maneuverable than the standard two-handled sort. So, it's technically redundant, but I'll always keep it. Maybe someday for the kids... IP: Logged |

that's a real prize I was just thinking every time I slice bread I use my grandmother's bread knife and I treasure it as you do your rolling pin. Not exactly an appliance, but it's one of my prized possessions. IP: Logged |
