Day before Lent delight...

Fastnacht Day, Fat Tuesday, Marti Gras
Coming up Soon, March 4th this year.
The delight comes in the way of deep fried potato doughnuts.

Tradition says this is when all pantry supplies, butter, lard, sugar, etc. are used up before the fasting season of Lent begins.

These doughnuts do not have holes in them. So it is futile to visit Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Creme to celebrate. They are luscious squares of fried dough, fresh and crispy on the outside, wonderfully textured on the inside, with a rich flavor that can stand alone. Best serving suggestion is to cut it open and toast each side, then drench with traditional Turkey Syrup (although Maple Syrup would do it for me)

I'm sure there are special recipes out there to share, or other serving ideas ??? Maybe other Lent traditions?

Sounds interesting, PS. I love to hear about the foods of different cultures and traditions!
