1. Zanzibar Shake

This smoothie is inspired by Kim’s time on the tropical island of Zanzibar, off the coast of Tanzania
Rich in tropical fruits, it also boasts a large spice trade and spice market in Stone Town, including the ginger, turmeric and vanilla that are in this shake
This shake is great for boosting skin brightness (so important in winter!)
Pineapple contains a lot of vitamin C and also an enzyme called bromelain which is very cleansing and detoxifying
Turmeric is a blood cleanser and anti-inflammatory and has anti-aging benefits
Ginger is a warming spice and good for digestion

Ingredients:

1 cup pineapple (ripe)
1 cup banana, chopped
¾ cup cold coconut water
1 tsp. ginger, peeled and chopped
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 Tbs. raw coconut nectar
1/8 tsp turmeric (powdered or just a tiny nib of fresh)

Instructions: Blend all until smooth

2. Gorilla Shake

This was inspired by Kim Snyder’s gorilla trek in the volcanic mountains of northern Rwanda, where we were up close with the gorillas on foot. Some touched us!
Gorillas eat over 200 types of plants, including lots of greens. The bok choy and sunflower sprouts represent the shoots and bamboo that make up their diet.
The gorillas and you will obtain plentiful amino acids to create protein in your body from eating a lot of greens, and blending them makes it readily available to your body
Sprouts and shoots, like the gorillas eat, are very high in concentrated nutrients such as vitamins, amino acids and enzymes
Gorillas also eat some local fruit, and papaya is very popular in Rwanda
Papaya is great for keeping skin beautiful and youthful- high in vitamins A and C, and also rich in the enzyme papain, which has detoxifying and cleansing properties

Ingredients:

¼ cup sunflower sprouts
1 cup baby bok choy (use green leaf part)
1 ½ cup papaya, chopped (ripe)
½ cup coconut water
1 cup banana, chopped

Instructions: Blend all until smooth

3. Serengeti Smoothie

On safari in the Serengeti, Kim Snyder and her husband saw so many different animals, including many that eat figs as part of their diet
Most of the animals (elephants, buffalo, giraffes, hippos, zebras) are vegetarian herbivores, and the cats (lions, cheetas, leopards), dog family (jackel, hyenna, etc.) are carnivores.
There is a beautiful mix of animals in the Serengeti!
This is a simple anti-aging smoothie. High in age-fighting antioxidants, free-radical scavenging vitamins like Vitamin E, and calcium to help keep your bones strong
Figs are high in antioxidants and fiber, and have little seeds that are very nutritious; blending them is a great way to get the maximum nutrition out of them
There are also almond trees in the Serengeti, and almond milk is high in vitamin E and calcium (more than any other nut), a great dairy-free alternative
Cocoa beans are grown in East Africa as well

Ingredients:

4 dried figs
1 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 1/3 cup banana
1 tsp. raw cacao

Instructions: Blend all until smooth.

4. Cedric Smoothie (this and Gorilla Shake are most important!)

Inspired by a little 3-year-old that was adopted by a member of the Gardens for Health International staff
GHI fights malnutrition (which 44% of the children there have) by sustainable agriculture programs
They give seeds to families and teach them to grow their own vegetable gardens
They also give every family an avocado tree, to symbolize their long-term commitment to them, and because avocados are such a great source of health fat and much needed calories
GHI has a farm and they make a form of the Glowing Green Smoothie every day for all the children from the villages that come, so they are getting something healthy every day
More information on these smoothies and GHI please go to www.kimberlysnyder.net.
This smoothie is a great aid to moisturize dry winter skin from within
Kale for protein, antioxidants, vitamins A, C and K, which works with calcium and helps to build strong bones. Kale also has omega 3 fatty acids
Mango and lime juice for a boost of reparative vitamin C
Avocado, to add a bit of heaviness to this smoothie in case you are on the run in the day and want to drink your lunch. Great for healthy monounsaturated fats, to nourish dry skin

Ingredients:

1 ¼ cup mango, chopped (ripe)
1 cup curly kale
2 Tbs. fresh lime juice
¼ cup avocado
1 cup coconut water

Instructions: Blend all until smooth.

Thank you! I drink smoothies every day...usually along the lines of that Zanzibar Smoothie, without the turmeric.

But these are good ideas! Hmm...I'd like to try that Cedric Smoothie when I have all the ingredients. I usually have most of them on hand, anyway.

Along with my hodgepodge of green smoothies and occasional "treat" smoothies, I've been drinking Chris Wark's Cancer Fighting Smoothie about once a week.

1 young Thai coconut, water and "meat"
1 frozen banana
1 cup mixed frozen berries

I have a Vita-Mix so I can just put everything in at once; with a less powerful blender, you would do the coconut water and coconut meat first, then blend in the berries, and finally the banana.

----

This is my "dessert" smoothie:

1 Fuji Apple
1 Tablespoon raw honey
1 Tablespoon raw, hulled hemp seeds
1 teaspoon extra virgin coconut oil
1 cup almond milk
Splash vanilla extract
Cinnamon to taste
Several ice cubes

Here's one I've been making for breakfast a lot recently:

one banana
one cup raw whole milk
one cup raw kefir
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
one teaspoon raw honey
1 large tablespoon natural peanut butter
ice

really good, lots of protein, sometimes I throw a raw egg in there for the K2 (I raise my own chickens and ducks so I feel completely safe consuming the raw egg. I would never ever use eggs from any other source, unless it was a farm where you buy directly and know the farmer).

Keeps me full for hours, which is a plus!
