Get this...there's a new book called Haute Dogs, Recipes for Delicious Hot Dogs, Buns and Condiments by Russell Van Kraayenburg an entire book dedicated to hot diggity dogs by an obsessed author who idolizes his favorite food I have to admit it's hard to resist a summer holiday cookout without the requisite hot dog entree. But this book raises the dog to the presidential symbol of democracy, offers from-scratch recipes for the meat-stuffed casing choices, homemade condiments recipes including banana ketchup, homemade buns and flat bread, and many many varieties of the infamous chili sauce varieties. The Thai-style fried dog takes the best looking prize, sculpted with slits which open into petals when deep fried on a stick. And there's also a beautiful spiral design. There are concoctions from all over the world and every major city in America but basically they all have the dog, the bun, and the condiments, in that order. I like my dogs grilled well done, bulging and splitting, served on a simple potato bun with ketchup and chopped onions. How do you like your dog?

Viennas, charred on the grill, on a bun with ketchup, mustard and onions. Homemade chili sauce when I have made some and cheese for my super duper dog. ------------------ Christian, Jew, Muslim, Shaman, Zoroastrian, stone, ground, mountain, river, each has a secret way of being with the Mystery, unique and not to be judged. When I was a kid, my Mom worked at the Chili Dog Stand.Oh, they were So Good! With onions, and relish and mustard. Yum! I have been known to roll mine up in a fried corn tortilla. With cheese and salsa, they are delish! (Was thinking about making these just this morning...) IP: Logged |

Key to a good chili dog is to have the sauce soak into the bun w/o it tasting mushy For me, cole slaw, chili, mustard=nirvana When in college the local convenience store had two dogs for 2.22...yummy IP: Logged |

You can bake hot dogs in the oven if you are cooking for a crowd in a hurry. Roast at 350 degrees F on a parchment lined baking sheet for 10 to 20 minutes or until they are heated throughYou can even buy a hot dog roller for at home use. It's suggested to get the size that holds at least 8 hot dogs and lets you control the temperature. You cannot use this for raw hot dogs, just the pre-cooked ones. Place them on the rollers and cook 8 to 10 minutes on medium-high, then turn down to low-medium and keep warm for up to 4 hours. Yep, a walk-away and come back to a ready-made meal like using a crock pot. You can probably use it for pre-cooked sausages, too.

There is such a thing as a raw hot dog? They come precooked in the package, just like all the lunch meats. IP: Logged |

the raw dogs would be the ones that are like sausages made fresh at the butcher's shopIP: Logged |

Yum. That's how I like Italian sausage. On a hard roll with sautéed onions and green peppers. Didn't think to use a hot dog. IP: Logged |
