Ha, I never knew what a Bento was until I came across another new library book last week, How To Do Absolutely Everything -Homegrown Projects from Real Do-It-Yourself Experts. You can search Instructables.com for step by step instructions.
http://m.instructables.com/id/Crafting-a-Bento/

A Bento is a work of art, and there are rules to follow in making one. In case you are still in suspense, a Bento is a Japense Lunch Box meal. Vibrant artistic visual display, designed with certain proportions of food types, made and served in a Bento Box. There are several types of boxes with different shapes. Lock & Lock boxes are recommended for removable dividers and air tight freshness.

Interested in rules? Traditional bento follows 4-3-2-1 rule. 4 parts rice, 3 parts protein, 2 parts vegetable, 1 part "treat".

Pack flavors that run or stick together with a divider
Separate wet foods from dry with a nested container
Sauces and dressings go in their own bottles with lid or cap
No refrigeration or heating

Accessories:
Mini Cupcake forms
Dividers such as the green plastic grass
Shrimp forks, toothpicks, skewers, chopsticks
Cookie Cutters, craft lunch, craft blade
Sauce bottles or very small zip lock bags for sauces

Food:
Asian market specialty store is a must

The concept:
Design starting with main item
Then use of color
Next use texture
And lastly use a theme to tie it together

---

This is truly food fun. Check out photos online by searching "Bento" or check out these additional links:

Yes, a lot if work.

But don't you think "pretty food" tastes better?

^^^^ lol!

Ok, this sounds amazing! And actually easy if you already eat this style of food! I had sushi today!
Thank you!

I've done something similar with dinner in the past on a grander scale, also.

Free part was best part, I'll bet.
In all seriousness, Happy Birthday.

Bento box lunch idea is clever and unique. I really like it. I'm sick of food right now and this you can dress up with many sauces and really cater to you.

A bit late, but you're welcome. Hope you and yours enjoyed, and hope you shared, lol.

Also would like to thank for thinking of us here and verbally serving us on your special day. And eating.
