You know when someone points at something?

What is it (psychological maybe?) that drives one to look at where the person is pointing and not the hand doing the pointing?

The hand is acknowledged, obviously but what is it that shifts the person's focus?

I imagine that...it's just like, a "look there" instead of "look here", because it's ingrained to be a director of attention. Like if a crowd of people all looked in one direction, an onlooker would probably look in that direction too. I dunno, psychological indeed.

I'm pretty stubborn, personally, because when people point at things, I don't exactly look right away. Or maybe look really briefly and look back at them and be like, whaaaat am I looking for?
