Hi everyone!

I've been trying to get started with a fanfic for Battle Royale ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266308/ ) after many attempts at roleplays that never got far.

I thought it could be fun if any creative souls here can give me some characters that I'd be writing and developing in the story. Bonus points if they're based on a sign or aspect! (I totally imagine my own characters as a certain sign)

So anyone willing to help me out? Given it's BR, it's a school class so I'd need quite a lot of characters. I've played a lot of RPGs where I would write for characters other people submitted, and really want to do something like this again.

Thanks! I'll put up the sign-up sheet too when I get back from classes.

CLASS LIST:

Boys:
1. Reza Ahmadi
2. Fox Doyle
3. Isaac Duncan
4. Artie Henson
5. Andrew "Andy" Kensington
6. Sean Li
7. Decklyn McCloud
8. Gavin McCoy
9. Zach Malone
10. Ronnie Matthews
11. Zachary "Zach" Reid
12. Xander Snow
13. Alex Thornton
14. Justin Turner
15. Jake "Mac" Waterston
16. Jonathan Weller
17. Trey Wilkins
18. Jack Wilson
19. Kenny Young
(I will be referring to both Zachs by their last name probably, or write their full name or something.)

Girls:
1. Erin Carmichael
2. Victoria Cortez
3. Isabella Curtis
4. Taylor Farcett
5. Holly Healy
6. Emily Jacobson
7. Laurie Landermere
8. Chloe Lewis
9. Natalie Martel
10. Rachel Milewska
11. Sasha Miller
12. Joanna Oakey
13. Lucy Parchette
14. Ellie Pryce
15. Lacey Satori
16. Mariah Stephenson
17. Samantha "Sam" Tanaka
18. Mandy Tointon
19. Erica Wick

Or right away, I see I still have time.

Copied from the RPG and Battle Royale message boards:

I'm likely going to make them a bit older - High Schoolers instead of in Junior High. (I was thinking Sophomore or Junior). As you might expect, this is an alternate universe of America where they have adopted the Programme and host one for the first time. (I won't be spending much time on politics as it usually creates more plot holes than that it solves.)

I just need you to fill in this about your character:

Name:
Age: (add sign/date of birth if you have a sign in mind for your character!)
Looks:
Personality:
Strengths:
Weaknesses:
Bio:
Class relationships:
Family:
Is your character capable of playing?:

(I added the last question because these are someone else's characters and I want to be sure I write them with the attitude in the game as its player intended to. This is probably one of the most important things for me to know and helps me plan out.)

I've been researching this and for this to happen the culture would have to change drastically. Offhand, some points to consider:

In the United States they'd probably be notably more Christian. (Japan isn't religious in the same way, and even Russia that was part of their empire have Christians that are more fatalistic rather than entitled Americans who expects God to personally lend a hand if called upon with enough faith. Even in the very unlikely event that Christians became a minority then the government would probably enjoy putting as many minorities like them in the game, but even if America has gone the Republic of Gilead--that is the Iranian version of Christianity--then they'd still likely have many Christian minorities to persecute not of their sect.)

In such a brutal militaristic age schools and upbringing would be radically different from today designed to instill toughness yet conformity. IOW, schools would be a lot more boot camp in character (and teachers like sergeants, including the drill kind, from as soon as it starts) and penalty to rule and outright law breaking would be draconian which would also mean either being cast out of a family and/or the family and friends being socially ostracized or even outright persecuted (socially and/or by the state), including teachers having kids beat up those kids who don't conform (and probably seeking out scapegoat kids for just that purpose, and such kids could easily wind up in a death match).

And if these death matches are known and expected then I expect it will become a lot more like Sparta in which only war heroes could be expected to take part in luxuries (other than the ruling class, of course, though such decadence by the rulers would be downplayed to the masses or explained through propaganda which many would believe no matter how absurd--though teens would be the most likely to reject it, but they'd learn not to reject it openly if they wanted to their lives to become a living hell or end outright, yet sending such a kid into a death match does make sense).

Americans are more individualistic than Far East Asia (including Russia) which means they'd find it easier to turn on their teammates that they worked with because it's more about #1 than the group (though of course such individualism would not stated so bluntly and it would appear that it was for the greater good of the group that rewarded the most hardworking and talented, whereas in the Far East rewards are seen as shared and ambition to rise above their station is typically frowned upon as arrogant selfishness who seeks to advance at the cost of necessary group harmony). This would be explained that the strongest, smartest, and otherwise most fit have the DUTY to weed out those less deserving because "we're only as strong as our weakest link" and social darwinism would be the rule (even if society was very Christian, though in that case they'd call it something else and explain the test of survival as one of using the gifts God gave them which they're obligated to use in His name, which happens to be serving the State).

The media would be closely watched and movies would glorify war heroes which focused not on ethics but on patriotism and body counts. Parades would also be frequent and kids (at least the "cool kids") would likely take part in at least some. Kids who didn't want to become war heroes would keep their "weakness" silent.

Capital punishment would be extreme and though probably not particularly creative it would not be humane either...the military might even use the condemned to make sure their soldiers are wired to kill the enemy by having the military conduct executions, perhaps even new recruits (who'd be shown all sorts of propaganda on how terrible the condemned are and how important it is to society--and their so-called "freedom" that they supposedly safeguard--to execute them, which also doubles as a menacing message to the new recruits to OBEY).

And in such a militaristic society of the states (which has a lot less people than in Asia) they'd probably institute breeding programs which at first encouraged the having of children (but not disabled) which would then become a duty later on. It could reach Communist Romania levels (especially if America has become uber-fundie Christian) of annual mandatory tests of women to make sure they haven't had abortions and fining them for failing to conceive (while those who do would gain benefits). Note that even women in prison would likely be used for procreation (though she'd get much better treatment while pregnant) with the offspring raised in government facilities which would be brutal to the children growing in them who are told to think of their assigned government workers as mother and father (think of Soviet Russia which worked out a lot like this in practice anyway, though as far as I know it wasn't a stated policy).

Spies and neighborhood snitching would make Americans very nervous if not outright paranoid (of course they'd be paranoid of foreigners). As always many people would be falsely reported for personal reasons (unless the state took efforts to squash such "frivolous false accusations" though to my knowledge no government ever has, probably because they'd be scared they were discouraging the reports of actual threats).

And remember, this would all seem necessary and reasonable to most of the population, it wouldn't horrify them the way it would us.

Anyway, that's what immediately comes to mind. I may try to create some specific characters later which keeps all this in mind.

Wow, I had not heard of that experiment yet, but it explains a lot and is definitely something to take into account.

Yes, I imagined the general culture would be different. Both have always felt very competitive to me, but in different ways: the self vs community issue you described. In the BR community, I've seen most people either stick to Japan and indeed make it very harsh, strict with a strong emphasis on rules. Or they go for America or somewhere else, but in an alternate universe where the Program has been a popular event (or it's the first time held). Some fanfic/RPG writers have used the political element, but as I just don't know enough of that - and I don't think research would do it justice - I had in mind not to mention too much of the political background into the story. I'm much more confident in developing characters and will focus on the students more (and their background, reasons for how they act on the island, etc.)

Thanks a lot for the information, though, and it does help to see the difference between both cultures. The Amercian way sounds a lot like the Careers in The Hunger Games actually.

And glad you could make some characters for me!!

I came back to toss out some ideas for specific characters when I caught this and don't understand the question yet you say it's the most important one so I want to know what you're asking here.

Capable of playing what?

Do you mean to ask if we will we play the characters in some online game? Or are you asking for permission to use these characters (which seems redundant to ask)?

And btw, what is supposed to happen to the one who survives? Does he become a national hero? On the fast track to promotion in the military? Lots of money and/or contract for product placements? Or just get to live with the nightmares so he can share and thus spread fear among others? (Put another way is the "winner" admired or pitied by the general populace?) Knowing this will help me tailor individuals to your story.

Just to be clear, I'm asking how it works out in society, not what you personally intend to have happen in your story.

It might be a couple of days or so before I visit this forum again so I thought I'd share a BRIEF sketch of 4 characters I have in mind:

Alex Thornton, age 17, freckled ginger and jock (including quarterback, until his knee gave out which he pretends is fine but it still bothers him, particularly when he runs, and has given out on him before unexpectedly which he covers up as simply tripped and gritting down the pain as he walks as if he's fine, and he's convinced himself he is fine but deep down he knows he isn't, and if he doesn't ease up his knee may never fully recover, but it's been drilled into him that weakness is victory to the enemy and betrayal of all he loves and holds dear). Even so, he plans to be an army mechanic so his knee shouldn't be too much of a problem...if he can hold it together awhile longer.

He has a slight stuttering problem (but beats the holy hell out of anyone who says anything about it, and compensating is why he ended up a jock anyway) and also drinks more than he should and that worries him given the alcoholism in his family, a vice that is frowned on by the state as it leads to inefficiency and loose lips which (like any other weakness) is treachery to the state and everyone he cares about. (If he does good then he can redeem his family's name.)

Though he won't admit to it anyone else, part of him is actually relieved to be here. He's in it to win it and either he falls and his problems are over or he wins and brings glory to his family as well as prove himself still strong despite the weaknesses he won't admit to anyone (not even himself when he can get away with it), thus vindicating him and (he thinks) removing his self-doubts.

Especially as his cousin shot himself leaving only a note "better dead than a slave" which brought the entire family under scrutiny for possible hidden animosity against the state and/or influence from hidden enemy agents. Personally he hates his cousin more for that note than for the fact that he killed himself (and left a big mess for his aunt to find). If...no, when, he corrects himself...he wins this he will loudly proclaim his patriotism.

Though he says a prayer to God for one thing: if he dies, don't let it be a girl who kills him, especially not the Japanese one (what the hell is she doing here with him anyway?).

Sasha Miller, age 16, short hair, expressive eyes, well toned, small breasted black gymnast...she wanted to be a dancer but that brings no honor and isn't respectable, but competing in gymnastics is, and since she had the grace for it she was pushed into it by both parents (her mother is very concerned with social image and status in the way of a military wife in which family image to the public affects the rank, pay, and bennies of her husband as well as herself and the children, and affects the future of her children as well), but she studies dance on the side, both as an elective as long as she's good at everything else but also illegally, and she can't help but wonder if she found herself in the Programme because someone KNEW...or maybe even God punishing her for her love of dancing.

She also runs track (and is very good though she has lost to others, and it's not her passion because no matter how much she runs it's just in a circle and for some reason that bothers her) and has a brown belt in taekwondo (something her father, a master sergeant, insisted on).

Her pack shows that whoever made it knows her background and skill set. First are the spiked shoes to with the the rest of the climbing gear and they have small crafty blades within them to make her kicks especially deadly. Furthermore it also contains ropes, tethers, and wires, things to maximize her gymnastic abilities (apparently hoping for a show) though she's already thinking of how she can use them as traps and alarms instead.

She wonders if that occurred to them when they gave her two short daggers or if they simply wanted her to perform some amazing acrobatics for the audience as she swung down to use her knives at close range in addition to her bloodletting kicks. She hopes they're very disappointed with what she's actually going to do. But what she'd love (despite being apolitical) is to kill those who put her here. She's endeavored to mind her p's and q's (even if she pursued dance more than she should, or even allowed by law) yet here she is. She shouldn't be here!

She's not close to her parents. They've spent more time on her little brother grooming him to be an officer (even if her dad has bad things to say about "paper pushers who don't actually work for a living once they rise above captain") and they've made it clear (as far as she's concerned), be someone she's not if she wants to be loved. She's compromised and did what they wanted with being who she truly was on her own time. And yet here she is. **** them. She doesn't care how it makes her family looks (just as they don't care about who she really is, just how she can further the image her parents want for themselves and her brother), if she can escape she will, and if she gets a chance to kill someone in charge of this event she will even if she's killed, too, just to send a message to them that they can die, too.

She tries not to let anger cloud her judgment and to direct it in good ways but sometimes it's hard not to be bitter. She's bent over backwards so much and it's never enough!

Jack Wilson, age 18, lanky (though decent muscle tone, just not as good as many others) and hair prone to being frazzled (something that worries him about being in the woods as it gets stuck in thorns, collects bugs and seeds, and might give him away when he thinks he's hid and wished he'd cut it first but he kept forgetting), has an odd habit of rubbing his hands or even chin (other other parts of his body) when thinking whether he's thinking silently or out loud.

Despite flunking one year he's actually very smart, though he also gets bored and then trouble seems to happen as he's a bit of a prankster...and given all the crap he's received from some others he feels a need to prove himself more clever. Of course he knows just how far he can bend the rules and get away with it (unless his pranks are why he's here now...perhaps to see if he's smart enough to survive and if he does then he'll be recruited, otherwise he's a troublemaker the state is now rid of, he does notice the state prefers a strong body with good memory rather than someone who thinks too much though he realizes how stupid it would be to share that observation with anyone) and he's even an Eagle Scout in good standing which wouldn't be the case save that he's tough and patriotic (or at least able to fake it), and he has good survival skills.

He's also an accomplished skeet shooter and taken aikido and kendo (though he wonders if the Japanese origins were a good idea his explanation of "know the enemy" worked...until now...and he can't help but notice that he was given a rapier which is either a comment that he should have studied his own heritage more, or a test to see if he can adapt his training in a katana to effectively use a very different sword, but in any case they didn't give him a shotgun).

He hopes they don't know that his uncle (a programmer) taught him a lot about computers on the side and is familiar with many of the sensors and devices here (his uncle wanted him prepared against the monitoring devices of the state, after all), though he expects it's better than he's used to (OTOH, they may not want to waste SOTA, or "boss" as his uncle would say, on kids and thus maybe he CAN escape, or at least find an advantage).

He wants to win it but not out of patriotism or duty, more just to prove (and spite) those who gave him a hard time. If he can escape he will but doesn't trust anyone and figures escape will be difficult indeed (but what proof that he's smarter than the state if he can!) so he doesn't waste much thought on it other than for what signs he should look for and how to test sensors and security as he must.

Sam (Samantha) Tanaka, age 16, has Japanese ancestry (which has caused her trouble more than once given the current cold war with the so-called Republic of GEA), though it's only visible in her features (softened by the genetics of her white father--granted, his Japanese surname betrays his own heritage though her family has been American for 5 generations now!). Her accent and attitude are all American (and she's only fluent in English, though she took a year of French and also knows a handful of Spanish words), she's on the choir of her Baptist church, and she excels at both conformity while making it somehow seem it's what she'd have done anyway. She has taken martial arts but it's been Krav Maga and some fencing (how she'd love to get hold of a rapier...) as well as some archery. She's also a valued member of her school swim team. Her grades are good and she's patriotic, and no one should question that she's an American...

And yet her pack contains mostly food, water, survival blankets, first aid (which she barely has any skill in), and...if she didn't know better she'd think they were TRYING to make her a target.

Wait, there is a pistol, though so small that it fits in the small of her hand. She checks the mag and figures there's 4-5 rounds max and figures they're JHPs (hollow points) as anything else (save maybe frangibles which are similar) would likely damage the gun ('course with JHPs in a gun this size she'll have to aim at the face or some part that has no armor, and she'll also have to get close, and she frowns as she wonders if they hope to show Japanese as treacherous, for the natural thing is to make a deal...and with this gun then shoot them in the face...and wonders if any would happen to have a rapier because that would be tempting even if it plays into their propaganda machine, but if she survives then she should prove valuable to the powers that be and make her father proud...).

...now its time to say goodbye
to the things we loved
and the innocence of youth
with a doubt in our minds
why we chose this life
and at times we can’t help wondering...

were we born to fight and die?
sacrificed for one huge lie?
are we heroes keeping peace?
or are we weapons
pointed at the enemy
so someone else can claim a victory?

Hi, so I can finally get back to you.

Playing is playing the game - doing what they are asked to do, which is having to kill their classmates until they are the last person left alive.

I realize I didn't write down anything on the plot itself for people not familiar with Battle Royale, arh, sorry for that.

But the general story is about a class of students (freshmen/9th graders/3rd year in junior high) going on a school trip, where they are gassed on the bus and brought to an island with the message of having to kill each other until only one of them is still alive. They only get 3 days and if by that time, more than one person is still alive, everyone dies. How this happens is that they all get a metal collar that can be controlled (exploding) from afar by the teacher or soldiers, which can also scare them into not doing anything rebellious.

As for your other question, yes, they do look at the winner as some sort of hero or obedient student, though people opposed to the game would probably pity them instead. These kids would likely be traumatised coming back home, so whether they actually won is questionable.

And thanks for these characters! If that's a sketch, I'm really looking forward to read the full ones.

I can use these weapons for what they get assigned as well (everyone gets a survival bag with a random weapon). Especially what Sasha has brought with her (though weapons are confiscated, I really do want to use one of these as her assigned weapon).

Wow, I was just thinking about BR a few days ago and by random chance I followed the Sims thread here from sweatpeas.

Love that movie, the first one anyhow…
But it was all downhill after the original…

Well this sounds like a fun idea, Ill see if I can find the time to add a character into the mix.

Also, ty PJ for the Third Wave links

Hi! Glad you want to write a character for me, especially since we don't really know each other, I'm glad you're interested.

LOL coincidence, all of these threads that get you somewhere else.

The first one was really good, I agree, though I don't mind the second one much - I know it has a bad rap and not many people like it, and I see their reasons.

The whole idea, psychologically, is just very interesting, good material for writing I think. But it's not the most popular fandom, so glad to see more fans.

Yes, nice to meet you too!

Oh, I understand about being busy and glad you'll supply a character despite being busy.

You can add as many as you like! Just because Pixie posted four (which were really good, yes, totally agree), doesn't mean you need to. I have one character from someone on another board and he's planning on making more, same for another member. BellaFenice emailed me she's interested, too, so I'll probably post everyone else's here once they're done.

Ideally, I hope to get 30 characters (it's a school class), including my own.

If anyone wants to make a character with a specific purpose in mind (like... idk, a brother/sister/best friend/lover who dies early to see how a character close to them copes), that's completely fine. The only thing you can't ask - for obvious reasons - is for me to make your character the survivor/winner. I'm not choosing the person who survives until I have a full class.

I'll post some of my own character descriptions soon, to give you all more of an idea. (Maybe you feel like writing a character tied to them or something?)

So, here are some of my character descriptions. Updated with a full profile.

Name: Justin Turner
Age: 17
Looks: Justin is one of the taller guys in his class, though more thin-built. Despite that, the muscles he does have are strong from the sports he plays. But his soft, delicate skin and full lips, thick eyelashes and wide eyes give him a more feminine look, inheriting these genes from his mother. This has made him the target of homophobic slurs quite a few times, just for looking and being more soft and gentle. Unconsciously, he tries to prove them wrong by becoming extra competitive at sports. Through his parents, he can get good products for his skin and hair, and his sense of fashion is very good.
Personality:
Very driven, hard-working guy who does his best to juggle being a member of the school's track and swim team with school and friends. Very competitive on the field and takes a loss badly - it puts him in a very bad mood for a while.
He's very friendly and outside of sports, very laidback and easily lets things slide, energetic, outgoing but not a leader (he doesn't mind sitting back to let others call the shots).
He's a real go-getter who takes any chance he can get, bubbling over with energy. Full of spirit, when things get rough, you can count on him giving that uplifting speech you need. The one who tries his best at anything he does, he lives off proving himself to others and uses any criticism he gets to improve himself. Though he channels everything into sports, making him as laidback outside of sports as he is, there is one thing that gets him mad and that's being thought of as a failure.
Strengths: Physically fit and resilient, also mentally very resilient - he's not one to quit easily and can keep up his spirits, plus very good at motivating people like in a team.
Weaknesses: Very strong fear of failure, which often leads to his other weaknesses: being super competitive and having tunnel vision. It's hard for him to ask for help when he thinks he has to tackle it alone, has to prove himself to himself, his brothers and his whole family. Also doesn't really know who he is and especially outside of someone who gets compared to his brothers all the time.
Bio: Justin's attitude is all because he always had to compete with three older brothers, who are all very successful in their own way. The family expects everyone to be their very best - good just isn't good enough. Justin has spent so much time trying to fill their footsteps that he has no idea who he actually is, nor knows what kind of identity he has outside of his family and the high standards he tries to live up to. The worst, and a chronic comparison is with the youngest of his older brothers, Frankie, who was the captain of the swim team when he still attended their high school and represented their school a couple of times for Track & Field. Justin thinks everyone just expects him to be just like Frankie... all the time. He may just have to figure this out soon once he's on the island, with the threat of possibly going to die within 3 days.
Class relationships:
Family: Two parents who have certainly done well for themselves financially, older brothers Eric (22), Spencer (20) and Frankie (19).
Is your character capable of playing?: Very likely, yes. In self defence, absolutely. Playing for real... at the very least, he has the attitude that will make him want to survive, and his physical fitness will help him there. But he would probably consider himself capable of it only when he has no other choice, like in self defence.

Name: Victoria Cortez
Age: 16
Looks:
Personality: Once a sweet, peppy, bubbly cheerleader and admittedly quite shallow - carefree and without a worry in the world; now a hardened, bittered girl who has lost her passion for a lot of things that used to mean a lot to her.
Thinks most of her classmates are shallow, having realized how little pretty clothes and popularity matters after going through something bad, and especially likes to make sarcastic comments at others or sort-of bullies them through jokes at their expense. Has few friends now and doesn't want any more. Very difficult to work with in a group - her bad attitude is just very off-putting to the team spirit. Blunt and likes to disagree for the sake of disagreeing. Really not as rebellious and edgy as she thinks.
She's not involved in any school activities and does anything to get out of them. Used to be on the cheerleading squad and gymnastics team (though she wasn't as good as Sasha). Her cousin has been taking her to the gym every weekend, which she very much enjoys as an outlet, but she would not want to do this with any of her classmates.
Strengths: Tough, especially mentally. She does not take cr*p from others and is prepared to defend herself whenever necessary. Though it's not at the level she used to be, she's still in decent shape and working out has certainly given her more muscle and physical strength. Her reputation may lead to people choosing someone else to attack, because she's not an easy target. Also self-sufficient, she can work alone and keep herself busy without going crazy.
Weaknesses: Carries a lot of bottled-up anger towards her mother, which shows in her attitude towards others, taking her frustrations out on others by alienating herself from them, sarcasm and making fun of them. Generally has a bad attitude and is not fun to work with in a group, so quite a few of her classmates also stay away from her (and she stays away from them). Aloof, bittered and rebellious. Aside from working out at the gym, her lifestyle is unhealthy (partying, drinking, smoking, etc., and oversleeps when she has to go to class).
Bio: Her parents were college sweethearts, still going strong 20 years later, until one day, her mother confessed she had fallen for someone else and asked for a divorce. Victoria just couldn't cope with the loss of her family and her mother suddenly not having much time for her anymore. She dropped cheerleading, gymnastics, her old friends and boyfriend and isolated herself from her classmates. An older cousin introduced her to clubbing, which is what she does now every weekend, likely to forget about the pain. She's not aware that all of her behaviour comes down to pent-up anger towards her mother (and even her father slightly for letting the divorce happen).
Class relationships: Used to be best friends with Rachel and would always hang out with their group. She was quite popular among the other cheerleaders and in the gymnastics team due to her - how ironic - positive, bubbly attitude. Sadly things have changed and she sticks to only a handful of people. She used to have a beef with Mandy Tointon until, ironically, Victoria's change happened and she came up to Mandy one day, apologizing and admitting "I was so f*cking shallow". Now Mandy is one of that handful of people she hangs out with.
Family: Only child; lives with her father, who works double shifts now that he's been divorced. Mother lives on the other side of the city with her now-fiancé (whom she left Victoria's father for).
Is your character capable of playing?: Contrary to what many of her classmates may think, she actually doesn't want to play and will try to just keep away from anyone so she won't have to be confronted. If she kills, it would be because of that anger inside of her, sadly, being triggered, rather than actually targeting someone in particular. Doesn't believe in a way out and will try to accept what is asked of her. Again, she's not as rebellious as she thinks she is, which she may just find out on the island.

Name: Andrew "Andy" Kensington
Age: 16
Looks:
Personality:
Proper, well-mannered, polite and witty, Andy knows what to say at the right moment and has a knack for saving situations that are getting difficult or awkward. He likes things going smoothly and is willing to give up on his own ideas or wishes to make it happen. Very intelligent and a keen member of the school's debate club. That doesn't mean he has no opinions of his own – you'd be shocked to find that out if he ever opens up to you – but he sees it as protecting himself not to shake things up. Meanwhile, he has a lot of respect for those who do and actually tries, in his own way, to look out for them. Though he picks his battles, he's confident enough to take on someone taller. He loves to observe and wait for the right moment to take action. In teamwork, he's the one making sure that everyone is doing an equal amount of work and if you even try to be a lazy bum, he’ll make you work for it. Andy hates laziness and wasting time, he wants everything he does to be useful.

But what many people don't know is that he suffers from a lot of anxiety and panic attacks, and takes medication for it. It would just be a lot healthier for him to be more bold and openly oppose someone rather than bottle things up.

Aside from Debate, he's also a member of the Student Council and was class president last year (this year, someone else beat him to it, and it took him days to tell his parents, knowing they'd be disappointed). [Anyone who wants to make his rival here who took "his" spot? It would be very good for his characterization if he has someone to compete with for that, and top marks in class.]

Strengths: Very persuasive, he can convince many people of his point of view and his talent for debate has definitely helped him here. Of course not everyone will be swayed, but he's better at it than most of his classmates. His proper, likeable image makes it easy for people to trust him, he comes across as very approachable, which helps in getting others on his side. And he's very intelligent and hard-working, making sure to get high marks and making it top five in grades. His mind is quick, sharp, and good for solving problems.
Weaknesses: Suffers from anxiety and panic attacks due to all the stress put on him, for which he takes medication (which he may forget to take or he can lose it, run out of it, etc.). Has extremely high expectations of himself, which are near-impossible to live up to, and so he feels horrible afterwards (rinse, repeat). He bottles a lot of things up to keep being "good", which often gives him headaches, trouble sleeping, stomach aches, etc. The few times he does get angry, he explodes, which scares the sh*t out of him and makes him try holding it back next time even more, making things worse. Very controlling towards himself, and without that self-control, he feels useless and it scares him.
Bio:
His parents are the managers of an expensive hotel in the city centre, earning them status and a high reputation. Andy is the oldest of two, having a younger brother (Ryan, 15). As the eldest, he's supposed to join the family business, his life having been mapped out even before he was born. There's tons of pressure on him as the "golden boy". His brother has started rebelling against all of these expectations, which has sadly lead to their parents putting even more of their faith and hope in Andy to set the right example.

On one hand, Andy really wants to be liked - hell, he needs everyone to like him. But on the other hand, secretly, he wants nothing more than to follow Ryan's example and also oppose his parents. Maybe the pressure of being in the Program will be that final push for him to start following his own path and even tell someone how he truly feels about his parents.

Class relationships: Knows Zach through their parents, who both run the same upper-class social circles. Also someone in class is his academic rival, which makes him quite insecure.
Family: Father, mother and younger brother, Ryan, who is a sophomore at the same high school Andy attends.
Is your character capable of playing?: Not at the beginning, no, he would definitely be disgusted with what's being asked of him and instead hope to find a way out. ("Everything can be solved!") He also has this 'hidden rebel' thing going on, which makes him want to fight the system even more. Finding allies would be the most important to him, and he'd secretly enjoy being the good guy bringing people together. But he does have that hidden anger...

(I know they sound similar...
He's different from Justin in that Justin just wants to have something to stand out for, while Andy doesn't want to stand out at all and to just lead his life the way he wants to for a change. Andy is also a lot more "polished" and moulded, while Justin is himself and cares less about how he looks.)

Name: Erin Carmichael
Age: 16
Looks:
Personality:
Most of the time, she's a sweet girl who has people's best interests at heart. But also a complete follower and pushover who doesn't have a single assertive bone in her body (so she thinks). Any form of confrontation makes her clam up, so does standing up for herself. Of course there are plenty of things that annoy her or even make her mad, but she tucks these feelings so far away she's not even aware of them, let alone feels them. She just can't bring herself to say "no" to someone, no matter how much she's told herself she will this time.
Naive - even mostly because she hopes people are good - and gullible, the perfect girl for her friends to ask for favours, help and even money knowing she'll do it, and if she happens to have an excuse not to, just a little nagging does the trick.
Always in good spirits, she's very energetic and enthusiastic, but one glare from a friend makes her shut up immediately. Keeps bad thoughts to herself and takes her friends' secrets to the grave. She knows what people need and is great at reading the atmosphere, which has given her the adaptability to whatever gets thrown at her. Because of her young, child-like attitude, she's often the butt of jokes (which secretly do hurt her) and does the dirty jobs because no-one else wants to do them. She's in the school's drama department and also has been doing contemporary dance since she was little. Loves both because it helps her really let go and be herself (or in case of drama: someone she'd like to be).
Strengths: Kind, always tries to look for the good in people and is just very helpful and pleasant to be around. You wouldn't hear her make a nasty remark about someone or to someone. Very optimistic, she looks on the bright side and assumes things will be okay. Her talent for acting and general adaptability makes it easy for her to adjust herself to different people, environments and situations. She can be what someone wants her to be. Very good at keeping secrets, especially her own, so people wouldn't suspect her.
Weaknesses: Pushover, naive, clams up when she'd have to speak up, easily scared and feels threatened to lose people. She wants things to be safe, and is afraid of losing people. Very child-like, which makes people make fun of her. Unconscious feelings of jealousy towards those who get the attention she really, really wants to have.
Bio: Comes from a loving, supportive family, middle-class, with an older sister, Nina, who is in college, and younger brother, Nick. As the middle child with a very acedemic, brave and outgoing older sister, she looked up to her and is always looking for someone like that in her girlfriends at school. Her brother sucks up a lot of attention because of his ADHD, having often tired their parents out from all the attention he needs, which leaves Erin to be very overlooked. She doesn't want to give her parents even more stress and so she acts sweet and polite, keeping on the background, but ends up looking for all of the attention she lacks in her friends and especially boyfriends, hoping it will make up for what she's not getting much at home. (Though it has never occurred to her to just talk to her parents, who would be happy to spend more time with her if she'd just let them know she's unhappy about not getting that much attention.) She's very close to Nina, and was crushed when she moved out to go to college, and deep down, if she dares to accept having such jealous feelings, resents her younger brother for getting the attention she craves. But he has problems and needs the help, so she feels guilty for even having a passing moment of feeling jealous and thinks she's selfish and unreasonable.

Class relationships: Basically Rachel's bodyguard and second hand. Erin thinks of her as a friend and looks up to her, reminding her of her big sister. Also friends with Holly and the rest of their girl clique, but there's some weird mix of competition and understanding between her and Holly. Ex-good friends with Victoria, and like Rachel, Erin misses her a lot and still has moments fretting and agonizing thoughts of what she could've done to get Victoria to ditch them like that.
Family: Mother, father, older sister Nina and younger brother Nick.
Is your character capable of playing?: Hell no. She'd just run and hide, scared to death. When push comes to shove, though, she may find she's much more of a fighter than she thought. At least for defending herself.

----

And because I realized every character so far has problems with their family one way or another:

Name: Mandy Tointon
Age: 16
Looks:
Personality:
Stubborn as hell and always arguing about something, Mandy isn't the easiest person to be around. Declares her way of speaking as "brutally honest," but this usually ends up being seen by many as rude. Has very strong opinions and if she doesn't like you, she will let you know and refuses to act civil to keep the good atmosphere. No, she perceives that as "being fake" and of course, Mandy isn't fake. Incredibly outspoken and asserts herself as a strong, independent girl, Mandy is always right and she will not give in - even if she has to twist the debate around to a whole different subject just to have the final word. Because losing, to her, means her ego gets kicked in.

The type who is the first to criticise and chide someone else but there is hell to pay when someone even implies she's being unreasonable or doing something wrong. She refuses to. However, she's almost like a mother towards her friends, always going at great lengths to make sure they're happy and makes sure nobody hurts them.

Plays soccer for the school's girls team, but that's the only school activity she's really invested in. She's one of the weakest students in her class (aside from the ones who just don't bother at all) and really needs the extra time to study. This is something she's insecure about and often doubts her intelligence when she gets a bad grade. Not that you'll hear of that, though, she's embarrassed of it.
Strengths: Loyalty and protectiveness towards her friends - those who are on her side know they can always count on her. Her poor upbringing has made her very resourceful, learning early on how to make do and survive with little things at her disposal. Her soccer background has given her fantastic stamina, she runs fast and can run for a long time. Strong lower-body strength, too. Assertive.
Weaknesses: Proud, stubborn; doesn't know when to quit because quitting feels like an ego failure to her. She's a bit of a hypocrite, one who can dish it out but has trouble taking it (she's more vulnerable than she thinks). Rude, often blunt and this has hurt quite a few of her classmates over the years. She really doesn't beat around the bush, even when a situation really calls for being more gentle. Argumentative and argues a lot.
Bio:
Comes from a working-class family and is used to not having the luxuries that her classmates have. Her younger sister, Maya, is often bullied at school, which has triggered Mandy's mother instinct and made her more fiesty towards others who have bad intentions. She likes being the tough one that the more meek, passive students look up to for protection. She gets a lot of personal validation from that and has to watch out for assuming they can't fend for themselves (or always want her to fight for them!).

Class relationships: Friends with Zach, whom she acts like a mother towards. Also friends with Victoria, though she's not aware of something she triggers in her (see below). She hangs out with Zach and Victoria separately, though.
Family: Lower-class; two parents happy together despite financial tough times (Mandy doesn't realize this unconsciously triggers a wound in her friend, Victoria), younger sister Maya, whom she protects and looks out for every day.
Is your character capable of playing? To protect herself or one of her friends? Yes. Fighting a soldier or someone who killed a friend (as a bit of a hypocrite way of revenge)? Yup. To go out and hunt others? No, not at the beginning, no.

----

Name: Holly Healy
Age: 16
Looks: Small, slim build and in shape because of cheerleading and track, wide, blue eyes and blonde hair that reaches up to her waist. Her hair is definitely her biggest asset and she takes great care of it, loving to try any styles she finds on beauty blogs/in beauty magazines. Dresses fashionably mostly to blend in well with the other girls in her group.
Personality: Bubbly, fun, spontaneous and exciting to her (and to those who like her); in-your-face, loud, over-the-top and tiring to people who don't like her. Holly likes being the life of the party and is a bit self-centred, often drawing attention or conversations towards herself. A major romantic who knows all the classics for romance movies and novels, and a geeky side of her loves shipping characters on her favourite TV shows online. Sometimes she has crushes on two guys at once. As much as she claims she wants a boyfriend, she actually prefers the dating phase - the wining & dining much more than the actual relationship and easily gets bored. She has a large circle of friends, because she tends to have the same problems in her friendships - but as long as she can flit back and forth between her many friends, she does keep interested. Actually, keeping her interest in anything is hard for her; she's easily distracted and naively expects that initial excitement to be there all the time. She just loves to have fun, fun, fun and doesn't want to miss a thing, so she usually takes on waaaay too many things and ends up dragging herself home, beat and exhausted in her whole body. But she can't see herself do any peaceful, quiet things. She often gets carried away with fun ideas and invitations, which often leads to her, regretfully, double-booking or plain forgetting about a meet decided on earlier. But she does need her alone time now and then, her "down time", which is when she realizes - just for a while - that quiet does not need to mean "boring". But then she gets an invitation to go shopping or something like that and the whole thing starts all over again. Holly prefers to be optimistic and is very uncomfortable with the harsh reality of that life isn't always sunshine and roses. She's downright offended a couple of people when she'd keep telling others "things aren't so bad!", trying to cheer them up but grossly missing the point - that they did not want to be cheered up, but have their pain acknowledged instead. Serious, sad situations or people get to her so much that she feels awkward and even slightly incapable of helping people. Though she'll try sitting with them and she does stick up for her friends when they get treated badly.

Holly is a cheerleader and member of the track team. She loves getting all playfully competitive with people, but refrains from doing that with teammates who are serious about that (such as Justin, whom she is friends with, but finds his competitive attitude a bit scary). She doesn't need to win anything and usually falls in the middle of the group in terms of ranks. But she doesn't mind - at least she still enjoys track this way!

Strengths: In good shape and quite strong athletically when she focuses, same for flexibility and being quick on her feet. She has tons of energy and, in doses, her extreme enthusiasm and bubbliness is quite nice and tends to pull you out of a bad mood. Has bouts of inspiration where she's kind of brilliant and gets a lot of work done.
Weaknesses: Just... so over the top with her enthusiasm, her energy, her loud voice, just everything about her draws attention towards her and often not in the right way. Some people think she does it on purpose and needs to be in the centre of attention at all times. Because of her ADHD, she has trouble focusing, is very forgetful, hyperfocuses so much she loses track of time and any obligations, spaces out often, tries to do 3 things at once and then won't finish anything. Just so messy and a pain to work with in group projects for school.
Bio: Grew up in an average, middle-class household with her mother being a teacher (not at her school, though) and father working at an elderly home. These two jobs, requiring to look after people in some way, really came in handy when Holly was a child. She was loud, boisterious, easily distracted, forgetful, spacey. Bounced around all the time. She was a real handful and drove her parents to despair at times (at least, that's the impression she got, which she takes to heart). She has the feeling her parents didn't try for a brother or sister because Holly was enough effort as it was, which she has also taken to heart and has carried with her all these years. Thankfully, when she was 8, her parents had her tested for ADHD, and she was diagnosed. She's gone through countless different kinds of medications, each of them having side effects that were easier or less easy to live with. She has settled on one medicine now, though, and takes her medication daily. Maybe because of what she felt like growing up, she still feels as though people don't like her or will get tired of her over-the-top excitement, of all the things she forgets, and ultimately stop being friends with her. This is the opposite of what she wants, she wants to be liked, and when she's alone, she's a lot less happy and bubbly as people think.
Class relationships:
Has been desperately trying to become a full member of a popular group of girls in the school. (Ideally, I want 2 or 3 more girls here together with Holly and Erin.) Her tendency to copy people and often ask others for their opinion has made it easy for her to mould herself to their behaviour (especially their judgemental attitude and shunning anyone outside of "normal"). But she's so clingy and tries so hard that, aside from ironically Erin, none of the girls take her seriously and only really keep her around to get her to do things for them, get extra gossip, etc. Victoria Cortez was a member of the group until she went rebellious and dropped the group, so of course Holly tries to butter up to the other girls by disliking Victoria on their behalf.

Why is it ironic? Because Holly sees Erin as a threat and, in fact, the thing standing in her way to become a real member of the group. If only she had a fallout with the other girls or something...
She has no idea that Erin feels pushed around by the other girls and doesn't feel like herself around them, but seeing them as safe. She also has no idea that Erin sees herself in Holly and has always tried to look out for her, even thinks they could be best friends if both stopped caring so much about what the other girls think of them.
Erin was one of the girls who fell for Reza's charm and seduction, and now that Holly has done so as well, being smitten by him, she has unsuccessfully tried to warn her (so she won't have to go through the same thing - major heartbreak - as Erin did).
Outside of the group, Holly also likes and is friends with Justin and Andy.
Family: Father and mother, plus two very cute, fluffy kittens, Star and Sun, whom Holly absolutely loves and dotes on.
Is your character capable of playing?: On paper, yes, if [other popular girls] decide to do it, but saying she will is different from actually facing a classmate and having to attack them. She's going to realize it's not that easy and feel conflicted - between her morality and feelings of loyalty towards the other girls.

I had more in mind, but still want to figure a couple of things out (and I don't want to submit too many of my own characters actually).

One character as promised…!

And I very much enjoyed reading both yours and Pixie’s… So much so that I became maybe alittle TOO inspired and over done it with this very long character bio hehe…

But I really enjoyed writing it anyhow.

-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-

Zachary Reid, (Although most people call him “Spence”) age 18, very slender effeminate looking guy with dark collar length hair and delicate features… At school he is accustomed to being jeered over his “girly looks” by the more macho elements of in his class such as the likes of Alex Thornton and the other more knuckled headed jocks… who upon seeing him naked in the showers after a class of P.E, now spend more time fantasying over wanting to frak him than they do most of the resident cheerleaders of the school’s football team (Not that the likes of Alex would ever admit to such).

His femininity he gets from his French born Mother who was a professional model and once featured frequently on many popular glossy magazine covers in both France and the US until Zach was born (which is something Zach tries to keep hidden from his classmates) . But after his birth she retired from modelling and became a full time Mom and an occasional weekend consultant for various “Security Firms” as an Etiquette trainer for their female bodyguards whose machoism is often in dire need of a touch of grace…

Out of his classmates he is perhaps closest with both Sam Tanaka and Mandy Tointion… Although Sam only became interested in hanging around with him during the year she was studying French after she discovered his Mom was such… and that he himself was fluent in it. Nonetheless, despite the sort of tutor/student relationship they had back then… they have become closer in recent months (due to Sam developing a crush on Zach) but all of Sam’s extra-curriculum school activities mean they don’t see much of one another outside of class.

Mandy on the other hand has almost made it her sworn duty to protect Zach from the school bullies who in freshman year often attempted to knock seven shades of **** out of him until Mandy, and several of the girls soccer team (who think Zach is gorgeous looking) rallied around him in his defence and thwarted the any further attempts to pick on Zach “physically” thereafter. Embarrassed as he was about the whole affair he knows they saved him from a daily hazing… but at the same time he also hates how physically weak he is when he needed a bunch of school girls to protect him.

His Mom (Giselle) relentlessly pressures him to get good grades, as well making Zach keep up with all the modelling and etiquette training required for him to literally “follow in her footsteps” someday and become a top model as she once was… Secretly he hates modelling, and can’t stand the constant harassment from both his Mom and his many classmates whose shallowness he scorns... but he hides is contempt well, even from her... And for the past year he has been plotting his escape from a life on the catwalk… and come graduation Zach plans to join the military and seek a career in Security Intelligence just like his Dad done at his age.

Currently his Dad, who bares resemblance to the alpha male type character of “Jack Bauer” from the 24 series (who he has grown to admire and idealize (Both JB and his Dad) , has never once called Zach a “***** ” or any such derogatory insult that barrages his ears at school…) is a Lieutenant Colonel and Genius Programmer/Hacker who work’s for the Global Mercenary outfit known as “Darkwater”; and has been stationed in Iraq (As far as Zach is aware, but two weeks ago he was transferred to the BR Island as part of their security/surveillance detail) for the past 3 months… after being home for the previous 3.

(He didn’t always work for Darkwater, but the lure of the money they were offering was too good to turn down… And before Darkwater, he worked At a US Embassy in Paris in Security Intelligence. (Where at a Banquet dinner many years ago… first laid eyes on “Giselle” who was working as an (“Security Cleared”) escort for a French ambassador… And who not long after…. became his Dad’s “permanent escort” and wife after a very steamy affair and subsequent move back to the US.)

Nathan (Zach’s Dad) was until recently operation’s manger over a network of “Airborne Drones” that patrol the bleak streets of the still much desolated Iraq since Gulf War II… And most evenings, especially on weekend’s when his Mom is doing her consultancy gig… He and Zach work on programming projects via email and Skype…

The latest of which is a Military Grade surveillance drone that Zach first started working on last year, when for his birthday his dad bought him a state of the art 3d Printer and forwarded him DW plans for the construction of a small cypher-drone (solar powered with a storage battery system for night time spec-ops) that when assembled and programmed could be flown using an Xbox 360 controller.

Zach hadn’t quite worked out the physically circuitry of the drone just yet and so has never flown it, but in the mean time he completed the control program in a “virtual environment” setup just last week and stored it on a removable SSD in his bedroom. When his dad was on leave again they were going to finish work on the drone and test both its flight capability and surveillance/hacking elements on the local neighborhood…

The Pack:

In Zach’s pack is the very drone he had been working on at home…. Which someone has dissembled into its respective parts but who has fully integrated the internal circuitry to where all he needs to do is slot the pieces together like a jigsaw, much how one would install a clip in “Graphics card” into a computer motherboard and theoretically it should work… As well as the circuitry being implemented, the onboard camera looks fully installed and most likely too the various scanning and hacking utilities;

In other pockets of the pack he finds a number of interesting items….

An SSD labeled “Flight Controls Program”… “HIS” SSD (the fact the someone was in his room disturbs him… but given his now circumstances he tries not to get hung up on it too much), and on further searching an Xbox 360 controller with a wireless range amplifier and judging by the size of the device, it probably maxes out at 1-3miles… but NO batteries. (2 AA’s Required);

In a side pouch is a Galaxy S6 phone that when turned on displays a Darkwater logo and two icons on the start-up screen that say “l33t Hacks” & “Drone Camera”... (Is his Dad somehow involved in all of this he wonders?) Apart from the wireless-camera link, the phone appears completely UNUSABLE, no network… not even any of the buttons seem to work… Its setup to only receive a data/display from the drone apparently… unless… but the “unless” will have to wait until later…

In the last few pockets he finds various cables for connecting to the drone and the phone… but without a laptop or PC terminal all of this equipment is USELESS… Since before he can get it off the ground he will have to upload and compile the flight controls from the SSD to the Drone… “**** …” he thinks to himself, “a ******* iPad would do the job… anything with an interface that will just let me copy from my SSD to the internal drive of the Drone.”

As he is searching the bag more thoroughly he sees what looks like a Police Issued “Shootable Taser” strapped to a side panel inside the pack, but NO re-charger unit… with most likely the Gun/Taser only being able to be fired once…

“My last line of defense” he thinks; as he notices his breath quicken from just holding it… (Zach has never fired a gun in his life, and even though it is possible to kill someone with a Taser of this strength, he is glad it’s not a “real gun”.)

In the last pocket at the back is a jewel-case with a completely black colored front and back DVD… The only way he can detect the readable side is by tilting it towards the sun and seeing the tiny laser indents upon the underside of the disc… And in very small holographic writing around the inner ring of the disc is a label that reads “Spartacus”…? Spartacus… Isn’t that the fictional computer-program Colin Farrell’s character wrote in the movie “The Recruit”?

“Christ…” Zach ponders… “I got my wish alright… But this is my chance, my chance to prove to my Mom Im more than just something to gawked at for peoples entertainment…” Yet saying such makes him laugh considering where he actually is… Shaking his head, he knows that if he succeeds his career in security intelligences will be “Government Approved”, with him likely quickly becoming a top operative surpassing even his father…!

“Dammit…” he thinks to himself; “I just need to get this Drone airborne and Ill have a massive advantage if I can get to a safe place…. But I should really try and meet up with Mandy and maybe Sam too… I need batteries for the Xbox Controller, and a terminal to load my SSD….”

For a moment he imagines a portrait of him in a window box on a TV monitor along with Mandy, Sam and the rest of his classmates as a timer counts down their demise… “**** ”, he says under his breath… “Well atleast its not… 24 hours.” :\

-=-=-=-=--=-=

Ill see if I can add more characters, but again… busy as hell

Wow. I think you got me beat in the sheer details for your character. PixieJane, too, actually, and I'm actually very much known on other boards (where I RPGed) for making long, detailed profiled. I always write too much.

But I do love it and all the thought you've put into Zach so far. Using lines of things he would think to himself isn't what I'm used to in profiled, but again, I like it and it already brings him to life on paper.

I like that you're using other characters and how they and him get along, which I want to do for any future characters I post here too.

I can see him know Andy through their families being friends (both seem to have parents with status and reputation) and maybe Victoria before she started to rebel.

I'm only just now getting back to this thread and I have a lot more to read (and probably won't add more until tomorrow).

I just wanted to share from both personal experience and observation that survival is instinctive and normally not a choice. That is many people who have lived sheltered lives can glibly say that they wouldn't kill in these situations, or that they'd never turn tricks to survive, or steal, or fight, or even just look the other way rather than risk themselves and their loved ones by doing what they know is right, but until they've been there they don't know and are probably wrong. The brain has many parts and when it senses that death (or similar disaster) is immanent to itself or someone loved then the more primal and primitive parts of the brain will typically kick in and take over.

Of course such is traumatic to the person which can lead to all sorts of psychological defense mechanisms being employed as well as anguish, guilt, rage (at self and others) and PTSD over what one had to do as much as what one endured. I'd say that many who were put in such a game might feel awful when there's blood on their hands, but they won't stop killing to survive if that's what it takes, even if they hate themselves for it. Ironically it's easier to die for someone else (typically someone loved--can be a friend as well as romantic interest or relative) than one's self--or another survival instinct that kicks in to either freeze or submit (the extreme version being Stockholm Syndrome) when the rational mind knows it can't work (but survival instincts are in control, not the rational mind).

@meissieri:Glad you liked it, ahh the parts where he is talking in his mid is more like when Zach is on the Island examining his pack as part of the narrative, but hey… You can easily drop all of that… I just thought it added abit more insight into how he feel/thinks about his current predicament.

You are right about Andy btw, I really should have put something in there with regards to a possible friendship, but since Zach’s Bio is already very long, perhaps you could simple add alittle something about Zach in Andy’s bio?

Maybe even that they were once good friends but have since had a massive falling out (hence why Zach left him out of his bio lol?)

Hi Pixie, nice to see you back

The above characters are great.

Btw, info on female bodyguards (they're becoming the next thing in China):
http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/16/world/asia/china-female-bodyguards/index.html

Just for the record I don't care if all the characters I contributed die. Though I'd think it would be more interesting and compelling if some (doesn't have to include any of mine) escape in defiance of the rules...and it occurs to me that Zach's dad and Jack Wilson's uncle (the programmer, who probably knows Zach's dad, and my mind boggles at all the things those 2 could do working together, especially if they could call in other friends--though they could also be betrayed, mind you) could also send in outside aid, possibly without getting caught, though also possibly by willingly becoming enemies of the state. If the contestants are viewed with pity then that makes it much more likely (if still unlikely) that outsiders will help them with an underground railroad in place.

Heck, even Zach's mom might arrange for them to get to France since she has definite plans and it sounds as though she has both international connections and she's used to getting what she wants (Zach may have reservations about being rescued by his mom, however, lol, though he'd be hard pressed to refuse if his dad was helping and they offered to rescue other kids with him).

If Europe is like it is today then many countries would not extradite them back to the US with asylum easily (and probably eagerly) granted. Plenty of countries have already refused to extradite criminals or defendants to the US because they (rightly) don't trust our justice system to mete out justice (especially if the death penalty is a possibility), and that would likely become even more pronounced in such a world as this, unless the US dominates Europe and/or Europe has also fallen back into similar barbarism. But generally speaking, the United States has almost always been further to the right than Europe (and also Canada, btw, which has a history of sheltering Americans fleeing persecution by the US Government, and both Canada and France are generous with granting asylum in our own world), including the conservative countries, so if many Americans hold reservations about these games then it's a good bet that Europe condemns them loudly and views the US with dismay and probably fear.

Hi both,

Just a quick message...
I haven't been doing well since last week because of personal problems that bring up a lot of pain, and they're affecting my health a lot (I'm tired alllll the time).

So I just wanted to say I read everything and I will take it into account, but there are a few things I want to stick to in my story, such as getting one - two weapons max (in the original, it was suggested one of the characters got an extra weapon), possibly picked out for the character specifically (like a character the bigwigs suspects will be a major player gets some 'encouragement' in a weapon), because I like some of the things you picked out. But a whole bag full is a no for me. That didn't happen in the original either. I'm quite attached to the idea of despite some people having a higher chance, not making said advance too much because things will become too unbalanced. Besides, there are many ways a character can get more - even better - weapons, like from another student. I imagine the people fighting the most will ultimately have quite the collection of good weapons.

My idea for each bag was 4 bottles of water, a whole bread (for 3 days, 3 meals a day, I think that's okay), map of the island with a pen to mark the danger zones, flashlight with one extra pair of batteries, compass, blanket (the cheap fleece types) and the weapon. Maybe a mini first-aid kit with a couple of regular-sized kits spread across buildings on the island. There are supplies, but they're limited.

I agree on the idea that at least most of the students would likely, ultimately, kill, at least in self defence or to protect someone else. If I remember correctly, this was an inspiration for the author of the novel (his work in a factory?). It's only natural someone goes through a lot of personal changes when faced with something this urgent and traumatic, so yes, I am planning on having it at least cross the characters' minds at some point, even for the nice, pacifist/pushover types. Just need to figure out how to get there; write their deelopment. It definitely would be hard to guess correctly what you'd be like in such a situation, so I hope that doesn't make my "is the character capable of playing" question in the character sheet moot. I want to use it as a guideline... how do they go into the Program, what's the first thing going through their minds when they hear what they have to do. You know.

Not completely decided on the escape plan thing.

And yes, sure Andy and Zach could be friends through their families. LOL fallout. Dunno.

--

I hope this is okay with both of you and I don't want to sound like I've just skipped over any ideas. It's just that on another board, I also get ideas from others, the people submitting characters to me there also have their opinions and it's tricky to listen to everything and make them connect with my own plans. Every idea sounds good and ahhh I'm like, "I want to do everything!!eleven" but that's not possible. But I think there will be bits and pieces from everyone throughout the story.

---

Last thing to add: I've updated my character profiles with the new connections to other characters, etc. You may see some names you don't know, these are characters posted at the Battle Royale board on IMDB. I've also added a new character I made, which is not completely finished but enough for a start I think.

Actually it was indeed seeing a number of videos about that a few months back which inspired that “Etiquette Trainer” gig for Zach's mom!

And cool ideas about a possible escape and link up with Jack Wilson’s uncle! Who knows, maybe he works for DarkWater too as a freelance hacker of some kind?

meissieri, hope you are feeling better Please feel free to disregard the contents of Zach’s pack if you have already decided on how you want to do things for yourself. Nonetheless he could still find the Drone and so forth via exploring the Island, but maybe let him have the Taser though, a rechargeable one even.

Hey! I'll let you guys keep one weapon (in your case, the tazer) since you've already submitted characters and all, but I'd like to do the rest of the packs at random.

I don't really know where to find a drone or much about escape plans, so for that I would need your help - like how do you see it happening?

And I'm still not too well, very tired and stressed out.
