About twenty years ago. It was a good book. The others were a little weird, though.

I bought 2 more but I got one with high ratings because I find the ratings are usually right.

I was 16 (16 years ago) when I read the first four books. I went through the first 3 books extremely fast and was in love with it. But the fourth one, Tale of the Body Thief (IIRC), was just flat to me, and so was every other Anne Rice book I tried after. This is one of those things that many people agree with me on.

As a 16-year-old I loved how vividly Anne Rice brought historical scenes to life, I felt as if I were actually there. The new interpretation of myths was fascinating to me but I don't think that really got started until the second book (The Vampire Lestat, IIRC, followed by Queen of the Damned, and the second book pretty much ended on a cliffhanger demanding you read Queen of the Damned next). Creating a vampire society was very creative, and I also liked how even vampires were superstitious and even warred with each other over matters of belief/faith.

I don't recall the first book as well as the two that followed but it did have vivid descriptions. I recall thinking Louis was a whiner (and loved when they put in the movie version--which I don't think was the book version--how Lestat hearing Louis on tape with Lestat getting aggravated saying to the reporter, "Heard enough? I had to listen to that for CENTURIES!" Scene here if you want to see it). I was spellbound by his feeding off a child and the decades that followed after that, but if you haven't read it I don't want to spoil it. To me that was what really hooked me. (The real life inspiration of sorts was tragic, however, but I don't think you'll know about it unless you look it up. I think that's why the author poured so much energy into Claudia the little vampire and her story.)

I didn't see the movie. Authors can go flat once they reach a level of success.

If they don't love the craft more than the money, the allure of money weakens their craft imo

Stephen King did this, starting from Misery imo

It is beautiful when people love their craft so much that they never do less than their best, even if they have millions. I would put Art Bell and Rush in that category.

Rush says Trump is finally telling the truth. Trump is saying what the angry, populace cannot say due to the virulent political correctness.

Rush never officially endorses, not does Hannity. I think the reason is that people will use it against the actual Rep nominee, if it is a different person.

If *I* listen between the lines, I think Rush is hugely grateful for Trump but likes Carson, personally

I liked Lestat and Queen of the Damned, and had to push through Interview to get to them. Body Thief was ok, then it kind of lost my interest. But from me, that's a pretty big endorsement. I'm not much into the horror gendre.

I still see Trump (or Sanders on the other side) having no chance of getting the endorsement. The parties are just too entrenched in the process to allow a populist canidate to win the nomination. But they're both doing good occupying the attention of the public.

I got some of Rice's other books but then got waylaid by an amazing author--Sue Grafton. She did an alphabet detective series. I am on E. It is like A for Alibi etc

I,also, got waylaid by Stephanie Barron. She writes mysteries with Jane Austen as the detective.

They are addictive, although a wee bit slow.
