It is hard to get a feel for Jupiter Retrograde. One reason is, probably, because it is rather rare. I have talked to people with this placement, but yet still have a hard time making it concrete. I will write what I think and then I ask for your input, so we can learn together.

Jupiter is a complex planet and not understood as well as some of the others. To me, Jupiter is conscience. I am interested in empathy in the chart. This is because I grew up with a mother with little empathy. Hence, I have the burning desire to understand why.

I have studied the charts of sociopaths. I have friends who are sociopaths. Some people are born sociopaths. Some people are born with a tendency to be a sociopath, if severe enough abuse is added. Some people could never be a sociopath. I think I am in the latter group. It is not because I am better than anyone. It is because my chart does not allow for it.

A sociopath will have an afflicted Jupiter. An afflicted Jupiter is several hard aspects to Jupiter. In two of the charts of the sociopaths I know, Jupiter is in hard aspect to every planet but one. In one case, it is Neptune. In the other case, it is Uranus

I think this is a defining trait in the chart of a sociopath. If one’s Jupiter is not afflicted, I don’t think one would become a sociopath. Do I know this for a 100% fact? No, but it is my opinion from doing charts.

Jupiter is also a joy, fire and optimism for life. If one has Jupiter conjunct the ASC, one will have a joyful vibe. One will, usually, be charismatic and popular. Jupiter is a fairy godmother. It bestows blessings. It helps to mitigate struggles.

Let’s see if we can use the above to understand Jupiter Retrograde. The native may struggle with his joy for living. He may not feel an upbeat attitude toward life. He may tend to be dour.I would say that he would struggle to have a joy and optimism for life. However, at the end, he may find more optimism than other people who have not struggled.

In terms of conscience in the Jupiter Retrograde, I really don’t know. I really cannot ever speculate. I call on you for your insight.

Well...I think I can say I haven't been fortunate in any sphere of life. And yes, it's hard to enjoy it.

Thank you, Cappy. I need reports from people cuz this is a rare Retro. One can manage to overcome Retros, though, so don't despair!!

The Retros make you work extra hard for what you get but you CAN do it and what you get is better imo

I have Jupiter Retrogade at 29 degrees Taurus in 1st house. I don't have that kind of luck Sag Sun usually have, but I don't think I'm not optimistic. When something bad happens, I would reflect on the good things that I have, something simple like good health and a family to love, then I know I'm lucky indeed. Ami Anne, I'm feeling like I'm stalking you today, and on Valentine day, no less

I have it retrograde in saggitarius fifth house. I really have to work really hard at things like school and learning stuff. Somehow I just cant learn unless im actually doing it or reading it over and over again. Im not very confident in my creative endeavours and im a huge introvert. I dont enjoy this placement.

It sounds like merc Retro with a Saggi merc, maybe.

I dont have mercury retrograde- I thought mercury was to do with communication mostly? Its hard to pinpoint what manifests as what since there are other placements that would suggest slow learner/introvert. But I read somewhere that jupiter retro manifested as person who had work harder at things than most. I certainly do in the realms of education- I thought jupiter/saggitarius/9H symbolised that?

Hi, first time posting here. I have Jupiter retrograde at 4 degree Leo, 2nd house. It's opposite Saturn (2 degree Aquarius, 8th house) and square Ceres (3 degree Scorpio, 5th house). It's also 7 degree away from South Node (27 degree Cancer).

Life is quite up and down. Things pop out of nowhere, if I let my guard down I can be severely punished for it, thus am usually pessimistic. Usually find relief rather than joy. However life is stable compared to others. Basic needs are fulfilled, family is well. Personality wise, am very introverted. Don't think I'm a sociopath, but others will disagree haha.

I have Jup rx, in 7th. I've been very unlucky in love...I've had some extreme lessons regarding love and relationships.
Personally I think Jup rx means you must learn to appreciate whatever it touches by trials and pain before you will be allowed to find the joy and happiness from it. I think it's a somewhat karmic placement, like maybe we didnt appreciate something before and we are being taught that appreciation by having to work extra hard and hurt in order to attain it this time around.
I think when you do learn to appreciate it, your reward is a much deeper version of whatever it is that you have been struggling to attain, and you will not take it for granted, you have deep appreciation and that will be a reward within itself that brings much joy!

Jupiter is retrograde approximately 4 months per year. So while out is rarer than Merc retrograde, and also the slower planets, which tend to 5 month retrogrades yearly, it is likely present in a third of charts on average.

This covers all the retrogrades: http://www.drstandley.com/astrologycharts_retrogrademotion.shtml

I have Jupiter r in h12. It gives the appearance of no luck haha, but just when it seems all is lost, the universe has given me a break over and over again, often from out of nowhere. With hindsight I have walked away from some seriously dangerous situations due to no talent of my own. But I also believe luck favors those who don't count on it (it's in capricorn) ...

Jupiter in the 12th is the guardian angel. Glad you made it through those things, Cata.

I've been looking for articles on Jupiter and Neptune Retrograde.

I will admit, I had to look up what a sociopath was and it doesn't seem fitting at all. I'm going to start asking people though

I do also have a pretty upbeat attitude towards life and in general...very giggly and "bubbly". But Jupiter also trines my ASC so maybe that factors in?

I have had a lot of luck ups and downs.

In placidus chart, I have Jupiter in H9 Pisces. Above someone mentioned learning to appreciate what you work extra hard to attain. I am working very hard to return to school and be able to just travel places. I can agree with this.
