Mars indicates the individuals capacity for direct action. This is always based on desire of some sort, and Mars rules the principle of desire. Because Mars is the ruler of Aries, and of the Natural First House, the actions it rules are largely based on the survival instinct and the expending of energy to acquire that which is essential to survive or to defend one's life and property. This applies to the preservation of the ego as well as to physical survival.

If this basic survival drive becomes distorted by mental abberations and neurotic or psychotic tendencies of the subconscience mind, the Mars energy often become destructive. This is why Mars is considered to be a malific planet in traditional astrology. The Mars influence, more than that of any other planet, needs guidance, tempering, and alloying with other factors. When the Mars energy is disciplined and properly channeled, it brings practical accomplishment.

Mars is exalted in Capricorn, reflecting the essential relationship between action and practical results. The best intentions or ideas are useless without action, even though it is equally true that misguided action, can be destructive. The manner in which action is taken and the affairs affected by the action are indicated by the sign and house positions of Mars in the horoscope. Aspects made to natal Mars indicate the degree of harmony and positive results or disharmony and negative results associated with such action.

Mars/Fire Here the individual has abundant energy and natural leadership qualities. Whether the individual is a man or woman, there will be strong masculine traits in the character. The individuals generally have a dynamic will and take positive action whenever necessary.

Mars/Earth The actions and desires are motivated by practical considerations. The individual does not take action unless there is an oppertunity to aquire wealth, property, or material benefit.

Mars/Air Here the individual can become vehement about ideas and concepts. There is a tendency to identify the ego with personal opinions and points of view. The desire and actions of these individuals are based on the intellectuals considerations, and consenquently they are guided by reason and intellegence rather than by impulse or emotional prompting. Mars in an Air sign can express itself through intellectual debate or contest.

Mars/Water The individuals actions and desires are based on emotional considerations. If the emotions are subject to distortions by subconscience mechanisms, the individual can act destructively. Emotional tirades, jealousy, and hurt pride are the result of an afflicted Mars in Water. On the positive side, the individual can be motivated to action by compassion, love and empathy for others.

Mars/Cardinal Acts decisively, sometimes impulsively and makes the most of existing circumstances, as she/he understands them. Motivation for action is based on present circumstances rather than past experiences or future goals. There is a need for continuous activity or change, if not they become bored.

Mars/Fixed Here the individual is motivated primarily by future goals. Determined, and often stubborn, in adhering to a course of action that will give them what they want.

Mars/Mutable Is adaptable and changeable in his actions. Motivation to action is based primarily on past experiences rather than future goals or present circumstances. The desire is to repeat pleasant experiences from their past and avoid painful ones. A well aspected Mars in a Mutable sign can indicate a highly skilled, adaptable, and versatile capacity for action. They know how to get around difficulties by periodically changing their tactics.

Goober,
Powerful Mars by sign, house and aspect. I think I'll use you as an example of stregnth.
Next week we will be discussing in detail the planets and the affect they have in the natal. Right now it seems as if were starting a little slow, because I need to finish posting the planets energies so that we'll have a point of reference for later on, but once we get going, were going to cover a lot fast.
Right now its very important to get the feel of the planets energy. Good work Goober.

VTT,
Mars in the 7th shows a competitiveness with your partner, With Scorpio on the desc. and Mars conjunct Uranus in Scorpio (both planets are strong in Scorpio) A strong Plutonian nature. Mars and Uranus together show temper. The opposition to the moon would make you high-strung emotionally. Your Asc. and Moon helps to steady you.

Noreenz,
Mars in Gemini, in the 4th another contradiction, Mars energy here is mental but in the 4th house it makes everything personal. Square Mercury can be sarcasm (I know, I have it too) but brilliant.

I have Mars in Libra/12th house. It's been an area of trouble for me because it's a rather weak placement for Mars. It's also a singleton in my chart.

Aspects:
conjunct Ascendent
conjunct Venus 1st
trine Jupiter 4th
trine Chiron 9th
square MC

My Mars occupies house 8 and Aries. Its aspects are sextile MC, trine P.F, trine Uranus, trine Jupiter, quincux Asc. Even though there is no aspect with Venus, Venus is in the same house and sign as Mars.

I've got Mars in Gemini 1st house. Sextile Jupiter and Venus, Trine Mercury and Uranus.

So... this would perpetuate my Libran tendency to debate/argue... yet learn something valuable from it?

I have Mars in Aquarius in the 5th house.

Aspects:
Mars conjunct Sun
Mars conjunct Mercury
Mars semi-square Venus
Mars opposition Jupiter
Mars semi-square Neptune
Mars square Chiron
Mars trine Ascendant
Mars quincunx Midheaven

I think this placement makes me creative (my sun is also in the 5th) and I have a need for creative expression... my ideas are somewhat original, I'm freethinking... heheh... probably a little arrogant about my ideas... somewhat free-spirited sexually. I don't have any hang-ups I can think of in that department. I like my Sun/Mars placement here, I think in general it gives me a good, fun-loving attitude to life.

Hello everyone, I'm playing catch-up.
What ever Mars touches it fires up or energizes.

VTT ~ Mars in the 7th (I have this too) opposite Moon, Most of your aggression is personal, you act out what you feel.
The conjunction or a hard aspect to Uranus will give temper and tantrums there is also the possibility of physical aggression. The lessons here are of self control.

Oceanic Dreams and Scorpbaby ~ Venus and Mars together (conjunction) is one of the nicest aspects to have in a chart. a lot of warmth here, very attractive aspect.

Sana ~ Even though your Sun is not in a physically aggrssive sign,(Gemini) with the conjunction to Mars it can become aggressive. You're not afraid to defend yourself. Your tool is your words. For you Sana its mental aggression, and being able to stay on a subject untill you master it. In the 8th house great self control/discipline.

Winged Feet ~ Moon opposite Mars and Mercury square Mars. This one I can appreciate but its lessons can be hard. Extreme Sarcasim. A great Actor or Liar (just because you can doesn't mean you do) Clever Wit.
especially conjunct Neptune and Uranus.

Libra Sparkle and Astromis both have nice easy aspects to their Mars. You two don't offend many people, you don't have to, most things run as they should in your life.

Aquarian girl, you've got yours down pat.

Moonbaby ~ yours I'll have to look at, do I have your info? I'll double check, if I don't please leave it. With this conjunction its always better for Saturn to come before Mars beause Mars opens (ideas) and Saturn closes. Its better to start out cautious (Saturn) and then get your momentum (Mars)

Noreenz ~ you're doing great
Mars square Mercury (see Winged Feets)
Mars square Sun when you trip up, you do it yourself. To be aware of this is to be able to improve it.

If I missed anything let me know!!

Also, A hard aspect from Mercury to Mars or Uranus will grate on the nerves, making you nervous.

Oh I didn't add my own thoughts on my placement..

Although Moon square Mars is supposed to be easily irritated (I guess I can be sometimes), and Mars in the fourth is supposed to be a tyrant at home, I'm pretty much the peacemaker in this family (most of the time). Any arguing started by me is usually accidental. Uranus and Pluto transits have been rough, bringing out a side of me that I don't like, but I beat myself up for eons after I've screwed up. Overly-sensitive, gentle, passionate, scattered, weepy, empathic ~ I cry so easily it annoys me sometimes ~ "Cosmic" was one of my nicknames growing up, because I was so laid back and daydreamy. I think the square to my Gemini Moon and Venus exacerbates the more anxiety-prone parts of my personality, but also makes me more emotional than a typical Gemini moon. Energy comes and goes.. but I do need to exercise (something that's been lacking lately). my home is also my sanctuary, literally ~ I even have my computer in a separate room so that I can just shut the door on work/anything stressful, until I'm ready to deal with it again. I seem to get sick whenever I get angry or very upset ~ either sick to my stomach if I've accidentally hurt someone, or physically ill (sneezing, fever, etc) when my temper really flares, or someone keeps trying to bait me (occasionally happens). pretty strong intuition, but I'm not always right as to where a feeling is coming from when I get one of "those" feelings.
I'm really tired and rambling.. will probably edit this a bit later.

Teaslebaby ~ I sat and looked at your 4th house Mars in Pisces, I have no idea why I left it out, an oversight on my part. Very sensitive placement by sign and house. It doesn't surprise me that when you get upset you get sick to your stomach, Thats a Cancer thing, worry and ulcers. Goes hand in hand with your 4th house placement. Your focus is on family.

Mars in the 4th
(Donna van Toen)

You may have sudden, inexplicably touchy spells. You're a hard worker in your home and / or for your loved ones, and are normally energetic (although if Mars is in a Water sign your energy may be more emotional than physical). Possibly you lost a parent in childhood or came from a home where fighting was common. Early on in your life, strong desires for independence and security came to the fore. These are what motivate you; and no doubt what you gain in these areas wlil be retained well into old age and perhaps throughout your life. Sometimes people with this aspect prefer not to marry; but they neearly always want their own home. Mars here under stress can be a troublemaker, a disturber of the status quo. Watch that!

Mars here says your wants are pretty basic - love, loyalty, a home, an even temper. One thing you want is a sense of shared past or similar background. You may insist on knowing your mate / lover's romantic history before committing yourself.

You're often motivated by hidden or subconscious factors that are truggered by environmental stimuli and stir your instinctive defence mechanisms. Lucky breaks are apt to be connected with your home and / or birthplace; at least a great deal of your activity may be connected with these (sometimes it's getting away from them which leads to lucky breaks!) To a lesser extent, lucky breaks may be connected with some sort of serious involvement with community recreation or promoting local businesses. Career activities tend not to offer too many opportunities as a rule, either because you're a rather private person or sometimes because of a militant or egotistical approach that turns people off.

The fourth house has to do with your home environment as well as your emotional and metaphysical development. If Mars is here, it suggests quite a strong emphasis on creative and / or psychic energy, which has developed over several lifetimes, but hasn't been used constructively. In the past, impatience has gotten the better of you, and caused you to leave many things uncompleted or badly done. This tendency is still with you and will have to be watched closely. Your actions will involve finding a constructive outlet for your creativity and / or psychic ability, learning to develop thoroughness in your chosen field, and learning to tone down strong emotions that interfere with your ability to follow your chosen path.

Hi LaLaLinda!!!
I'm new to the sight and I just love it!!! My Mars is in Leo and my man's Mars is in Scorpio. We're both Leo's...for some reason I LOVE Leo men.

I have studied my chart but I can't interpret the planets and the houses they are in. Most of my planets are in the lower left in my second house which is Virgo. I have about 5 planets there, moon in Gemini, Aries in Saturn....I can't remember the rest. However, IF, you have the time....these are my stats:

August 17, 1968 - 5:35 am. Los Angeles,CA
My Lion King's stats....(I don't know his time of birth)
July 25, 1967 - Munroe, Louisiana.

I have tried to interpret both of our charts but I only confuse myself. Lol. I know that we get along really well and enjoy each other's company and for the first time in my life I actually feel as if I could really settle down with him and go the distance...no matter what. And sexually he has no boundaries. I would say his drive is definitely stronger than mine. Sometimes I feel as if he's secretive, but then I say well it's probably due to his moon being in Pisces.

Anyway, if you can shed some light for me I would appreciate it. Especially my second house with all those planets in Virgo. Sometimes I think they don't get along very well.

Take as long as you need. I may be a Lioness but I do have some patience.
