Who Are You?

Who Are You? I really want to know. Well who are you? I really want to know!
THE WHO

So, you now have read information about your Ascendant, Sun sign and Moon sign. These three areas are the keys to your basic personality – the trilogy that defines how you use the energy of the other planets. Are you ready to try putting these together? With the information you have already learned you can start to integrate your Sun, Moon and Ascendant into a coherent picture of YOU!

The Sun is the fuel, the raw energy you brought with you into this world – it is your life-force. We are all born with this life-force, yet we are not all the same. The Sun will take on the characteristics of the sign it was in when you were born. An Aries Sun manifests this raw energy very differently than a Cancer Sun. We are all born with “the force,” (excuse me George Lucas ). But in each of us the force or fuel takes on different characteristics (our Sun sign).

The Moon is the container for this life-force; it gives it direction. The Moon reflects the light of the Sun to give it form. Your Moon is your reigning need in life. The Moon uses the Sun’s energy and gives it expression – it defines the purpose of that energy. What will you use all that energy for? How will you channel it? What makes you tick? That is represented by the Moon. If the Sun is your life-force, the Moon describes the prevailing way you will use that force in this lifetime.

As described in MoonShadow’s lessons, your ascendant or rising sign, is the way the world sees you. It is your persona, your mask – the face you show to the world. A Virgo with a Scorpio ascendant will appear to others to be quite different than a Virgo with a Gemini ascendant. The ascendant is how your life-force (Sun), directed by your needs (Moon), appears to other people.

The idea of blending your Sun and Moon to describe you has been used by many astrologers over the years. Noel Tyl has published a short Sun/Moon Blend chart in his book “Synthesis and Counseling in Astrology,” (1) which is very useful in your first attempt at synthesis. Here are some keywords (from Noel’s book) for you to focus on as you try this:

(1) Synthesis and Counseling in Astrology; Tyl, Noel; Llewellyn Publications; 1998; p. 76

Sun Sign keywords (These are characteristics of your energy):

Aries – Lead, Exert Force, Act
Taurus – Build, Maintain, Practical
Gemini – Communicate, Versatile, Think
Cancer – Security, Protection, Sensitivity
Leo – Recognition, Leadership, Vitality
Virgo – Discrimination, Service, Perfection
Libra – Appreciation, Companionship, Harmony
Scorpio – Control, Regenerate, Know on a Deep Level
Sagittarius – Self Assertion, Justice, Freedom
Capricorn – Organize, Administer, Ambition
Aquarius – Innovate, Humanitarian, Intellectualize
Pisces – Sacrifice, Compassion, Feel

Moon Sign (What you use your energy for):

Moon in Aries [Fire, Cardinal]: Needs to be considered IMPORTANT… Number 1.

Moon in Taurus [Earth, Fixed] Needs to maintain security and keep things as they are.

Moon in Gemini [Air, Mutable] Needs to be bright, clever and stimulating.

Moon in Cancer) [Water, Cardinal] Needs emotional security in close, personal relationships.

Moon In Leo [Fire, Fixed] Needs to be admired, appreciated and respected.

Moon in Virgo [Earth, Mutable] Needs to be accurate, discerning and exact.

Moon in Libra [Air, Cardinal] Needs to be popular, attractive and fair.

Moon In Scorpio [Water, Fixed] Needs to be in control, to be looked upon as profound, correct and self-sufficient.

Moon in Sagittarius [Fire, Mutable] Needs their opinions respected, needs to be right.

Moon in Capricorn [Earth, Cardinal] Needs to make things happen, to administer progress.

Moon in Aquarius [Air, Fixed] Needs to be unusual and socially significant.

Moon in Pisces [Water, Mutable] Needs to detect the ideal, understand impressions and work with the intangible.

Go re-read Moonshadow’s wonderful description of your Rising Sign and you’re ready to go. Let’s see what you come up with. I’ll go first.

Pisces Sun/Cancer Moon/Libra Rising

Being born a Pisces, I use my energy for compassion, feeling and understanding to help make all around me (especially myself) feel secure. Whether I am at home or at work, I am always creating a stable environment so that others can go about their business, knowing things are taken care of. It is vitally important for me to know that my surroundings are secure and I tend to be a martyr to ensure that this happens. Since Cancer is a cardinal sign, I can be quite forceful in making sure these needs are met! Other people don’t see me as pushy, however, because I have Libra rising. They see me as charming, social, even-handed and gracious. Even when I’m barking orders they will hesitate, look at the smile on my face and think, “Nah, she didn’t just order me to do something. That was a request!” I am considered a true team player and can turn on the charm to get my way, when I need to!

If you're so inclined, give it a try. At the very least, you'll learn more about yourself.

Have fun

Maria

Kewl.
Lemme try.

Pisces Sun/Aquarius Moon/Scorpio Rising

Being born a Pisces with an Aquarian Moon, I try to use my energy for compassion and understanding in order to make a meaningful, worthwhile, and individual impact on the world around me. Since Aquarius is a fixed sign, while it can take me some time to get started, once at that point I can be nearly impossible to sway from my chosen course of action. I can also sometimes overwhelm others, especially when they first meet me; and people consistently initially see me as more reserved and secretive than I prove once I choose to "let them in" (although my intensity never seems to dull). When voicing my convictions or beliefs they generally seem passionately held, sometimes to the Nth degree, so I can come off a bit strong. I am more an individualist than a team player, although I care deeply for the feelings of others and will readily take to a cooperative environment as long as it doesn't sublimate my ideals or force me to be answerable to someone not held in my respect and high regard.

Prox,

Great job. See, isn't it fun and it really does give us a chance to put our personality into words. I noticed as I wrote mine that it fits me... but I think I want yours! Oh well, there's always next time...

Oookay... my turn.

Virgo Sun/Sagittarius Moon/Mercury Rising (er, I mean Gemini... Rising. ehehehe )

A need to be right. Fits me quite well. I hate being told I'm wrong and I go to great lengths just to prove I'm not, with my Virgo sun helping me organize my arguments. Many times, I haven't been sure of what exactly I'm going to do and I have kept quiet about it, fearing ridicule or something. But when I do speak, 99% of the time I'm quite sure of what I'm talking about. It may not always be right, but I'm sure of it. And with a Gemini rising, I find something to talk about in the obscurest things, and turn them into arguments (which I have to be right. lol)! Because of my tendency to jump from topic to topic, people may find I'm being inconsistent with my views (gemini double-talk) when it actually makes perfect sense when you think about it (at least, to me it does. Virgo sun helps me clarify stuff like that)

Err... how'd I do? Don't tell me I'm wrong (Sag, moon, remember? ) Just tell me, "it's not what you expected".

Edit: And, I misspelled saggy again.

Thanks ZenRia!

It was fun, and I did it according to your instructions, and - to my everlivin' delight - it turned out to be wholly accurate.
That's funny that you said that you want mine; when I saw yours I said, "Gee...it sure would be cool to have a Libra Rising..."

Thank you for taking the time to write so that everyone could have a chance to try their hand at it.

X3 - Your description seems fine. Well, there's just this one point...

X3 (Is that shorthand for XXX???)

You did great! You, of course, realize (of course you do, you have a Virgo Sun), that your Sun sign, your Moon sign and your rising sign are all MUTABLE. I bet you can even switch sides in an argument and still win!

I actually think you did a wonderful job describing your personality (based on your Sun, Moon and rising signs). You hit the nail on the head. Given the fact that you have a Virgo Sun and Sagittarius Moon, I seriously doubt that you are wrong very often. I would think that Virgo Sun would check every detail even if that Sag Moon and Gemini rising want to talk before thinking!

You must talk circles around everyone else with that lineup! Just remember to let those special people in your life be right every now and then...just to keep them guessing

prox:
Oh, really? Would you mind telling me what?

Zen:
XXX? Maybe...

Yep... I did notice that. Probably the reason why I try to anticipate what happens and counter them before they even start. Err... whatever... I'm pretty good at confusing myself. And with a Virgo Sun, that's saying a lot!

Yep... But of course I do let them right sometimes... You can't be right all the time... especially when one of your friends has an Aquarian Sun and virgo moon (and did I mention a Gemini rising?). Ouch... genius combined with perfectionism and word twisting. Let's just say we have our own share of mental kung-fu. Just when you thought you pulled one over him, the aquarius sun draws up something bizarre and you're back to square one.

My try...

Being born an Aries with Aries Rising and a CancerMoon, my energy is always cardinal, and I try to use it to initiate and lead improvements and positive change in all things, and in all relationships. My expression is immediate and direct, except when my strong CancerMoon subverts it to go subtle and sideways -- the cartoon "Pow!" meets the divine dreaming dawdler, but it's action in both modes. My energy and humour are contagious, inspiring, and occasionally confusing to others -- when they think I'll go right (Aries), I go left (Cancer), and if they connect with my Moon first, the fire surprises them, and when they connect with my Sun/Asc., so does the water flowing. All this cardinal expression means passion and intensity. I've learned a thing or two about big brick walls! I do things my way, intensely, leading or off on my own -- I act to secure my emotional concerns, which may be about home, loved ones, or career/money. Sometimes the Moon waterlogs me until I galvanize myself out into the world again, yet richer for my new reflective insights. I enjoy cooking (CancerMoon) but will travel across town to get that special ingredient (Aries). My energy and compassion for human suffering make me the Queen of Cups, astride a white charger, who needs to be tucked in at night but is already dreaming of how to change the world tomorrow.

(even this description is tiring you out, isn't it!)

Lunargirl,

As I pull myself up off the couch (your description did tire out my lazy Libra rising) let me tell you what a wonderful job you did describing your personality. WOW! I really enjoyed your description. I was laughing and living it. I could never be an Aries with Aries rising. I'd burn out in a week !

You truly captured that cardinal energy and that all that fire, sometimes dampened by your Cancer Moon! Tell me, do you ever finish anything or just get it going and let others clean it up (where's a Virgo when you need them, right?)?

Great job, Lunargirl!

Thanks ZenRia! I had fun writing it, too!

AriesSun/Asc.: the last one standing on the dance floor in the wee hours...

Darn right I could use a Virgo around! O, the sorry state of my home office... just bought a copy of the "Idiot's Guide to Organizing Your Life", if I can find time to read and implement changes.

Completing things is ALWAYS a challenge. Luckily I have enough self-awareness to laugh at myself. Somebody with my placements could be hard to take if they took themselves too seriously!

And thanks for starting this thread! I hope we see more posts soon, 'cause it's fun to see it all put together.

Hey Randall, what do you say?

ookk - i am utterly useless at self description in general, btw.

Aquarius Sun, Gemini Rising, Cancer Moon

Being an Aquarian with a Cancer moon can present a nasty set of double binds, the most pertinent being a struggle between the progressive tendancies of Aquarius and the secure tendancies of the moon. This duality of character is highlighted by a gemini ascendant, making me seem unstable to many people. Given the sensitivity of a cancer moon, this can often cause a feedback loop. My Aquarian sun and cancer moon combination cares deeply about everyone, although i'm easily hurt by sometimes innocuous behaviour professionally and personally, which again can make me seem inconsistent in my application of effort to acheive things.
