OK, I'm confused. Does anyone know the history behind the "Chart Ruler"? I have read a few different things and I'm just curious about it all. Here are the three different situations I understand (so far)1. Planet that rules ASC is Chart Ruler 2. Ruler of 1st House is Chart Ruler 3. Strongest planet in 1st house is Chart Ruler Whatever information anyone has would be greatly appreciated! IP: Logged |

Hi avocadosandwich, I can help to clarify this.Points 1 & 2 are the same. The Asc marks the cusp of the 1st house, so the ruler of each would be the same. There is another school of thought that says the strongest planet would be the chart ruler, and there are a good number of ways for judging planetary strength, one of which places emphasis on 1st house placements. The modern method of discerning the chart ruler is just taking the ruler of the Asc. If you read modern texts, meaning things written at least as far back as 10 years ago, they would be referring to this ruler. Here's a link to an article by a good astrologer, and he outlines further some points about finding chart rulership. It makes for interesting reading.

Ah, OK. I was thinking that Libra/Venus were in the mix for me as well, as Libra covers almost the entire 1st house (the cusps fall at 28 degrees 28'49", which is what enables the tight ASC/Pluto conjunction in two different signs). Edit: I should have realised this before, but I tend to rush and since I always see my houses and signs aligning *almost* perfectly, I forget about the cusps! I'm going to break out a highlighter pen and mark up my chart, to remind myself. As a Virgo ASC, I'm going to beat myself for a while about this one. Thanks for the response, and for the link! Going to do some reading now....

You can have Venus as your secondary chart ruler if it occupies a large portion of the 1st, the same way you can have Mars as your secondary Dsc ruler if it occupies a large portion of the 7th.IP: Logged | |
