Has anyone read this book, and would care to comment as to whether it was helpful or not? Additionally, would someone with limited knowledge be able to benefit from reading it? I think I have may have Pluto problems, and am only just discovering the fact.

I once saw a sign that said "sin is death" but if "all deaths are suicide (linda goodman)" and suicide is sin, then shouldnt "death is sin" be more appropriate?

when organic is used to describe food then you know we have come to a dark age in history

I haven't read the book, but I am wondering what pluto problems could consist of?

Pluto is really intense, and my understanding is that the house in which it is placed is where the native experiences creation, destruction - metamorphosis. And you can either roll with change and learn from it or you can attempt to fight it and end up bloodied and battered (and no better off). Pluto provides this intensity elsewhere through its aspects to other planets - and I read somewhere with Pluto that "there are no limits" so one needs be careful. As someone who has gone to great excesses, I can vouch for that. It can also mean cruelty, manipulation, sexual deviance, and a host of other things. I hope I'm none of them, but I'm not sure.

I've always fought like a tiger against "my fate" and have tried - through the sheer force of my will - to make things happen (or not happen). There's a definite ego-based thing happening here, and I believe that comes back again to Pluto. I've also discovered that if I don't find an outlet for my rather explosive energy and emotions, things can get pretty ugly - whether people are around to see it or not. I have two stress-related ailments (a disease acquired as a child, and a condition acquired as a teen) which seem to point to this insistence on being secretive about my thwarted inner drive, pain and rage.

I also find that "I lead one of those lives" in which a lot of ridiculous stuff just happens to me. Perhaps psychologically I bring it on myself - I find that when my ego is strongest, something comes to smack me down... hard. I engage in battles which start out (I think) about the principle of the matter, but I suspect that my ego steps in and says, "You better not think you are going to get away with that with *me*." My endurance is high and I wonder sometimes if my battles are won through staying power alone.

*ASC conj Pluto (I see you have this too, Voix_de_la_Mer!)
*Sun opp Pluto
*Moon opp Pluto
*Jupiter square Pluto
*Neptune sextile Pluto (general - not individual)
*Saturn trine Pluto (again, an aspect that lasts several months and isn't indicative of anything specific in and of itself)

*******
"Lesser" aspects, which may be completely irrelevant:

Pluto trine NN
Pluto square MC

I've also got Venus and Mars in my 8th house but I'm not "there" yet when it comes to discovering the relevance of that!

Also, where I'm not so clear (I figure I have to understand the natal influences first) is in the transits. I can say that since Pluto entered my 4th house it's been harrowing.

Hi avocado,
Both amazon.com and books.google.com offer limited previews of the book. At Amazon you can do a search on that listing's page and type in your placement or aspect and see what (if anything) on the preview comes up, if her analysis speaks to you then I'd say it would be a good purchase. I found it very insightful, remember that the author is professionally trained in psychology so she adds that perspective to it as well. Here is her blog, http://skywriter.wordpress.com/ Based on the prices at Amazon you could get it secondhand there right now for about 7$ incl s&h.
Another v. Plutonian read is Astrology of Fate by Liz Greene difference being that that book is more invested in case studies and learning by example whereas Cunningham's book is more simple and cookbook style. They're both incisive texts.

Thanks, Lonake. There are so many options out there it is difficult - as a newbie - to separate the wheat from the chaff. Thanks for the additional suggestion!

Hi Voix_de_la_Mer!

It isn't too advanced for you at all - trust me when I say that in matters astrological, everyone is learning differently. I tend to latch on to one thing, dig deep, and hope it is worthwhile! You are in good hands here, and I hope that you find what you are looking for. And remember - I, too, have my Pluto conj ASC, and if you want to compare life experiences, let me know!

PS I have to tell you that I love people in general, no matter where they are from, but I have a great memory of a Scot. He thought I was making fun of him because I said "Aboot" instead of "AboWt" and while I was trying to help him get to the train station on time he thought I was taking the pi**. Needless to say we became fast friends when he discovered I was a Canadian, thus explaining my accent! Hopefully he made it to the wedding on time.

Haha, that's funny! So you guys have similar accent variations to us then? I've never met a canadian myself. I'm forever mimicking the Irish though, I love their accent, whenever I meet someone from Ireland, we play the 'say something in my accent, and I'll say something in yours' game

Thank you for the encouragement, I'm finding astrology to be much deeper than I imagined, something I can definitely see myself getting lost in - if something else doesn't catch my attention in the meantime - I'm so fickle with interests, I often have many on the go at one time, but astrology has always been there in a loose fashion since I was about 13. I used to guess people's sun signs with a pretty good success rate, just for fun obviously, but it's funny when people get freaked out and think I'm a witch haha

I'd appreciate any info you have on the Pluto/Asc placement, it would indeed be interesting to see if we have any points of convergence as a result of it. You will have to start though, as I don't even know what it's supposed to represent.

For accents, we have "aboot" in common, anyway. I've been told that my accent is "bland" and "flat" and a host of other things, but it doesn't worry me too much. I can only "do" accents (and often do, unintentionally) when I'm immersed in them, or when I've just come out of being immersed in them. That's funny about the accent game - I like that! I've been asked to "do" accents of places I've lived and I just can't now. But if I went back for a visit, I could, almost immediately.

Actually, I tend to lose just about everything if I'm not actually inside of it. Case in point: I'm getting back to work in the fall, and since I've been outside of the profession for so long, I'm worried because it feels like I "don't live there anymore." It will come back, but in the interim, well, it's terrifying.

I wonder if it isn't that you are fickle in your interests but that if you can't spend all of your time digging down deep into something, you can't be bothered. I used to call myself fickle, and say, "Oh, as soon as something gets difficult, I'm outta there!" but I think the truth actually is that unless I can commit 95% of my time to something I get frustrated and throw in the towel. Needless to say, having children has not helped with my interests in anything other than my children. My interests are an interruption of parenting, and though I love my children I find the sacrifice of my own interests quite painful at times. It sounds like you have some talent for the study of astrology, and I encourage you to stick with it!

As for the Pluto conj ASC there are subtle differences depending on whether Pluto is in your 1st house or 12th. Last time I looked in the other thread, I couldn't see your chart anymore, but I will take a look again.

From Parker's Astrology:

Pluto in 1st: "Pluto may have a striking effect on the appearance; the looks will be darkened and given and intense expression. The eyes may also have a piercing, powerful gaze; the individual will need to get at the root of every problem. The emotional force of the subject is strong and needs positive expression, and there must be total involvement in projects. The emotional and physical energy must not be burned, but actually consumed."

I do have what has been called "the strong eye" and my eyes are piercing. I also have a determined and intense look most of the time and I think this has contributed to the "11s" between my eyebrows. I do find that my emotional energies are extremely high and if I don't find a means of releasing them, I'm faced with explosions, implosions, and stress-related illnesses. It's true that I don't like scratching the surface of anything and need to know the "why" of everything.

Pluto from the 12th: "Pluto may also darken the looks here. The individual may be very secretive with smouldering intensity, so that his or her energies may in fact stagnate. This is most likely to occur if Pluto is negatively aspected by the Sun, Moon or ruling planet. Sometimes, much satisfaction can be derived from research and working alone - in libraries or with complicated computer programs, for instance."

It says as well that whether Pluto is in the 12th or in the 1st, the subject should use up energy in sport or another demanding physical activity.

I do find that I need to do some strenuous exercise to "settle" myself because there are times when I'm just spinning and there doesn't seem to be any outlet for it. This is where I have found astrology to be extremely helpful so far - I don't take the information as "excuses"("Hey, I've got Pluto conj ASC in the 1st - don't blame me if I turn into a lunatic hothead every once in a while!") but I do take the advice given as a strategy for the future. I knew that my energies were ridiculously high at times, but I didn't know how to handle them.

Let me know if you have Pluto in the 1st or the 12th and I will write more - this is helping me to learn, too, so we're a good match.

Avocado,

I totally thought I had replied to this thread. I am finding it difficult to remember all my posts on LL.
I really wish there were a list of all your personal posts.

I have PLuto in the first btw.

I'm gonna come back to this tomorrow
