Venus
Conjunct – The mixing of Mercury and Venus energies provide an intellect that is expressed in an affable and graceful manner. There can be artistic abilities, often expressed through poetic endeavors. Their voice is often soft and carries a musical quality. They make wonderful minstrels and storytellers. They try to express their thoughts in a way to produce beauty and enhance harmony. While they will not back away from their beliefs, they try to express them in ways that will be non-combatant. They are natural diplomats, intuitively understanding how to achieve compromise or a win-win outcome.

Sextile – the mixture of the energies of Mercury and Venus produce grace and skill in the presentation of their ideas, be by speech, writing or some other medium. There are also artistic abilities indicated by this aspect. They are able to communicate in a manner that allows other to agree with them more easily. Their demeanor is calm, pleasant, and their voice reflects a pleasing quality. They often have very pleasant voices, and sing in their church, organizations, or become singers on their own.

Because of their relative relationship to the Sun and each other, no other aspects other than the two above are possible.

Mars
Conjunct – The fiery energy of Mars coupled with the intellect of Mercury makes for a sharp and aggressive approach towards life. They generally speak their mind openly to all that will listen. There is little indecisiveness with this aspect, they do what they think is right and let the chips fall where they might. They enjoy debating and are often involved with controversial subjects. They often consider themselves the expert in what area they are interested in, and aren’t shy about saying so. They also have the tendency to be impatient with others who don’t think as quickly as they do, and often jump ahead of the other in a discussion, interrupting them before they can get to their point.

Sextile – Mars energy provides mental energy to Mercury’s sharp intellect. Above all else they are decisive in their decisions, and they say exactly what they mean. They are able to plan out their actions in advance making their efforts effective and productive. Their ideas are tied more to practical matters than day dreaming, and therefore they are able to deliver their promised goals in a timely and quality manner. They seldom will beat around the bush, preferring to call a spade a spade. They are good at strategy and probably enjoy games requiring mental skill, such as bridge and chess.

Square – Mars energy in this aspect tends to become overheated, irritable, argumentative and partisan in its point of view. They tend to not want any contrary feedback, and when they get it, react in angry harsh words. Tact is not high on their list of qualities they pursue, and they should stay out of any occupation that requires negotiations. They often jump to conclusions, not having the patience to hear others out. Everything has an emotional context for them, and it is difficult for them to consider any idea or point of view objectively. The problem lies in the intense Mars energy that they are contending with. If they can consciously learn and practice patience, they will benefit greatly from it. They also need to understand that they aren’t infallible, they can be just as wrong as they can be right.

Trine – Unlike the conflicting and abundance of energy conferred by the Mars Square, the Mars Trine provides an abundance of energy that mixes harmoniously with the Mercury energy producing the ability to concentrate in depth on their area of interest. There is a problem however, and that is a restlessness, inherent in this aspect. The ability to apply scientific knowledge in a practical manner is favored. They often go into mechanical engineering or other areas having to do with applying that type of knowledge. They have the ability to be forceful and dramatic in their presentations. They also tend to gravitate toward professions that provide them opportunities to exert their authority and leadership.

Oppose – the mix of the Mars and Mercury energies in this aspect produce an argumentative disposition, often resulting in conflicts of wills leaving them feel abused. They are contrary to a fault, preferring to play the devil’s advocate to agreeing with anyone else. They are nit-pickers of the highest order, and are totally unable to appreciate the other person’s point of view. They have the tendency to personalize disagreements, and become ego identified with their ideas. Their tongues are sharp and they are given to profanity, when all else fails.

Jupiter
Conjunct – Jupiter’s energy coupled with Mercury turns the mind’s interest towards philosophy, religious, law, or higher education. This aspect is often found in charts of those who earn their living with their verbal skills, such as teachers, ministers, lecturers, and politicians. They have the ability to sway others thinking through their use of words and concepts. They are often take advanced degrees in order to learn more and become experts in the area of their interests.

Sextile – Jupiter’s energies coupled with Mercury energy favors intellectual pursuits in philosophy, religion, higher education or law. Their intuition is highly developed. They enjoy studying areas of interest and often obtain advance degrees. They enjoy traveling and learning about cultures and beliefs of other groups. They often use their Mercury ability to communicate through writing or teaching about cultures or philosophical subjects. Their homes are generally places of intellectual activities and much happy interaction. Since we tend to attract those things in our lives that we dwell upon, they generally attract a great deal of good into their life. Their goal in life is to help others to better understand life, and be happier.

Square – Jupiter’s energy takes on a grandiose character that overrides Mercury’s usual good sense. They often lack balance and realism in their thinking. They have a tendency to keep the cart before the horse, because they are in such a hurry to achieve their goals. While they are usually well intentioned, they often lack common sense in their thinking. They are easily taken in by con men, because they seldom take the time to think anything out. They are usually typified by the stereotype of the individual that blurts out information that would best be kept to themselves. They are given to incessant talking, particularly about themselves.

Trine – Jupiter and Mercury’s energies favor those who are interested in higher education as either teachers or students. This aspect also favors religious or philosophical writers or speakers. They tend to be very tolerant and quick to grasp of other’s views. They are honest to the bone, always considering their own values and beliefs before taking actions. They enjoy traveling, and learning about new cultures and practices. They love to build private libraries, not just for looks, but as resources for study. They are always generous towards their friends and enjoy entertaining others in their homes. They are usually positive in their thinking, and as such achieve positive responses.

Oppose – the mix of these two energies in this aspect produces overconfidence problems, because of the inclination to promise much more than they can deliver. They talk a good game, but don’t carry through with the work necessary to achieve the goals. They tend not to be religious in the normal sense of the term. If they go on to higher education, they tend to take subjects that have little or no practical applications. They tend to think more of their abilities than others do, and when confronted, can’t put up a good defense of their position.

Saturn
Conjunct – Saturn’s energy brings structure and depth to the Mercury intellect. While not as verbally expressive, their intellect is expressed much more exact quite, and painstakingly manner. They are often found in science where their strong mathematical and scientific abilities can be more fully utilized, they have the ability to plan out their research carefully in advance, and follow it exactly resulting most often in success. They tend not to be socially active, preferring to be alone where they can think out their processes and then proceed with their work.

Sextile – Saturn’s energy in this aspect tends to provide stability to Mercury’s energy resulting in a disciplined mind. They approach life in an organized and prudent manner both in their speech and other forms of communications. They seldom do anything for the heck of it, they usually have good thought out reasons for their actions and speech. To this person learning is a process not a goal, and they will continue to pick up bits and pieces of information that they can fit into their overall beliefs, making them more complete.

Square – Saturn’s energy mixed with Mercury’s energy takes concern to extremes creating excessive worriers. They are so tied to the Status Quo that they are unable to imagine anything else. If they are able to “Think outside of the Box” they can’t get anyone to listen to their ideas. Rather than a general education, theirs will be tunnel-versioned focused upon a very narrow area of study. They fear change of any type, never haven been exposed to contrary thinking. They normally see life as a dangerous place to live, fraught with pitfalls and unknown dangers.

Trine – Saturn’s organizational energy, mixed with Mercury’s mental expertise, brings an organization to their work. Mathematicians, scientist, and others who require precise thinking will benefit from this aspect. The reasoning power and retentive memory is very strong with this aspect. There is also a dexterity of hands that often produces great craftsman. They also make very good managers, because they pay attention to all of the details. They are capable of hard work and application of practical principles. They also make excellent teachers in skill based professions. They make excellent friends and are not given to underserved flattery.

Opps !

Continued from above

Oppose – Saturn and Mercury’s energies in this aspect makes them defensive and suspicious of other’s motivations. Given a choice, they will say that the glass is half empty, and this disposition keeps them from recognizing opportunities when the arise. They are strongly opinionated and prone to narrow-mindedness .They tend to drive others away with their nagging and critical attitude. They seek recognition for their abilities, but find it difficult to achieve it. They are very conservative and rigid in their beliefs.

I have Mercury square Saturn and Mercury trine Jupiter...do they negate each other? or does it just produce a tug-of-war? my optimism and my worrying seem always to be in precarious balance! Mercury's in Aries (expresssive, quick) and Jupiter is in Saggitarius (enthusiastic, gregarious)and so maybe I need that Saturn in Capricorn (pondering, seeing every side to an issue) to even things out?? ..oh and these lessons are very enlightening! thank you!

We all have contradictory aspects and planet ;ocations in our chart. The one having the most influence on us at any time depends on transits, pregressions, eclipses, etc to those planets.

At one time, your Mercury Square Mars natal aspect may be triggered by a transiting planet bring out your irritibility and making you react in the manner of that square. At another time a different natal aspect may be triggered, causing you to react in a completely different manner.

The effect is also modified to some extent by the energy of the transiting planet.

There are so many different things to take into cosideration, when doing predictions. Thats what makes it an ART.

You also have to mix in the person's free will. If They handle the energies in a conscious way, they can use the energies for positive outcomes.

Hope that this helps and dosn't just muddy the water.

"All deaths are suicides, do you realize that? Every single one. The only distinction is that, with some people, suicide is a subconscious choice, and with others it's a conscious choice. Otherwise, those who commit suicide and those who succumb to accident, illness or "old age," die for exactly the same reason: belief in the inevitability of death." Linda Goodman
