Get to know all of the Asc. and MC personalities. These are important points in peoples charts and give you clues to their inner natures. Planets conjunct these points will color the personalities as well. Do you have a planet on the Asc or MC? Do you have a planet exactly aspecting one of these points. This will change the interpretation a bit. See if you can figure out how. There will be a quiz and discussion on these important points, so, get to know them well.

The Ascendant is the degree of the ecliptic which is rising over the Eastern horizon at the precise time and place of an individual's birth. Put more simply, the Ascendant Sign is the sign of the zodiac which is rising in the East at the moment of birth, and this sign, and the exact position of the Ascending degree, are the starting points in any astrological interpretation.

The Ascendant shows us as we really are - as opposed to the Sun sign which represents our ego and how we would like to be. This is most strikingly obvious if one talks about a person to someone who a casual acquaintance, and describes their character as shown by the Ascendant Sign - in the vast majority of cases, the third person cannot identify those traits as belonging to the subject at all, because Ascendant Sign traits are those that emerge only to those closest to us, and who know us really well. You may find it very revealing to see how this applies to you personally, so let's now take a quick tour through the zodiac signs to see how they behave when instead of being the Sun Sign they are the Ascendant Sign.

Aries Ascendant

The most noticeable trait about an Aries Ascendant person is their overwhelming desire to win. They have an energetic driving force ad remarkable energy reserves. Ruthlessness can be a problem, although competition is generally an excellent spur. There are many strong and positive traits in this placing, but perhaps this person needs to learn to step back a little and take a closer look at what they are doing and why they are doing it. Frequent headaches are common with this placing. In contrast to the independence of Sun sign Arians, those with Aries rising have a very strong need for a permanent partner, and they can be surprisingly understanding, compassionate and tolerant of their loved ones.

Taurus Ascendant

The basic impulse in a person with Taurus rising is acquisition, and this need to possess both things and people is even strong than in those with a Taurus sun. Often these people cannot feel psychologically whole until they can surround themselves with physical proof of their material success. Routine and security are important, and those with Taurus rising don't really enjoy stepping out of their comfort zone. Stubbornness and self-righteousness are as much in evidence as with a Taurus sun, but for those with Taurus rising deep self-understanding has be found the hard way. There can be difficulties with the thyroid gland with this placing. This placing also brings a very deep sexual need, and relationships in general will be intense and passionate. Demanding partners, those with Taurus rising can nonetheless be a tower of strength to those they love.

Gemini Ascendant

Although inherently changeable and flighty, those with Gemini rising don't have their heads in the clouds. With everything life throws at them, they just want one answer - can it be proven by either argument or evidence? Questioning every concept that is put to them, these people are equally adept at questioning themselves, and therefore usually have a high degree of self-understanding. Passionate enthusiasm and joie de vivre are normal in relationships for people with Gemini rising, and shared interests are essential with much intellectual satisfaction being gained from friendly debate. A strong independent streak is likely, though, and the person with Gemini rising abhors possessiveness and jealousy. The hands are often vulnerable with this placing, especially to arthritis. Nervous tension is also a very real problem, and a high number of those with a Gemini Ascendant succumb to asthma.

Cancer Ascendant

With Cancer rising, a great deal of satisfaction is gained through caring for others. Sometimes the instinct to care for loved ones is so strong that anyone and anything outside the immediate circle can be viewed as a threat. The attitude is protective, however, rather than possessive. Those with Cancer rising give out a huge amount of energy to their families and loved ones, and in the absence of a loved one this energy is usually channelled into one particular focus, often a vocation or a chosen cause. Social climbing can be a problem with this placing as these people are especially ambitious for their partners, rather than for themselves. Illogical worry about health is likely, causing a vicious circle of nervous anxiety which should be recognised and dealt with. This Ascendant placing is not one of the strongest, and therefore any planets in the first house, especially if conjunct the Ascendant, will have a powerful impact upon the personality.

Leo Ascendant

The person with Leo rising is likely to be incredibly well organised, but also rather bossy or even pompous. The desire to succeed is very strong in those with this placing, but this can lead to the stifling of all other interests in favour of the career. Those with a Leo Ascendant are very concerned with status, and will want to work always to enhance the standing of themselves and their loved ones, although material success in its own right is less important to them than the kudos that goes with it. Usually psychologically secure, this placing confers a great deal of inner strength and can be very dynamic. Back or neck pain is common.

Virgo Ascendant

Those with a Virgo Ascendant often have a Gemini Midheaven, and as both of these signs are ruled by communicative Mercury, this planet easily becomes the most important in the natal chart. The person with Virgo rising has a need to examine every aspect of his or her life in minute detail, and they are the zodiac's greatest communicators. Usually very well integrated psychologically, this can be a very fulfilling position provided that the potential here is positively directed. This can be easier said than done because the Sun Sign Virgo tendency to worry and to criticise is turned inwards on the self when this sign rises, so self-confidence and self-esteem are often rather low. A remarkable warmth in personal relationships belies this sign's reputation to nag, although people with this placing do tend to encourage their loved ones rather 'vigorously'.

Libra Ascendant

Libra is not one of the strongest signs in the zodiac, even when rising, so any other powerful influence in the chart can easily sap it's quiet dignity. The basis of the personality, however, if unopposed, is the need to relate to others. Very often the person with Libra rising will rush into all sorts of unsuitable relationships on the basis that any partner is better than no partner. The notorious sun sign Libran tendency to be in love with love is however spiced with a lively sexuality when Libra rises, and an altogether more 'worldly' outlook on life. Naturally charming and gentle, these people do however tend to take the easy way out of any tricky situations, and can often be prone to self deception.

Scorpio Ascendant

Scorpio is a very powerful sign, and when it is the rising sign it often dominates the rest of the chart. The deep sense of purpose attributed to Scorpio as a sun sign is likely to be even more deep seated when this sign rises, so here is a very intense and driven person. Considerable energy and organisational abilities are combined with leadership powers in what can be a formidable combination. There is often, however, a need for power for it's own sake, and those with Scorpio rising need to take care not to become obsessive or autocratic. With a deep need to know themselves, the person with a Scorpio Ascendant is capable of seeing their own problems and faults clearly and honestly, but this introspection can often lead to confidence struggles. Emotional security is very important with this placing, but may be exacerbated by jealousy and possessiveness, which can be difficult for a partner to handle.

Sagittarius Ascendant

The need for challenge, so important in a sun sign Sagittarian, is even more important when Sagittarius rises. This placing usually brings a great deal of self confidence together with an expansive, enthusiastic demeanour which is at once charming and endearing. Able to inspire others almost as well as they can inspire themselves, those with Sagittarius rising have an objective and philosophical outlook on life, and are amongst the most broad minded folk you will ever encounter. A tendency to rush in, however, together with a great deal of restlessness, sometimes means that all that potential isn't exploited to its full. Intellectual challenge in essential to these people, both in their working and their personal lives, and a healthy amount of sexual exuberance is also necessary in a romance. Quickly bored, however, the person with Sagittarius rising is open to depression when life offers no challenge, and once in depression, they find it uncharacteristically difficult to climb out.

Capricorn Ascendant

The most crucial issue for those with Capricorn rising is their wavering self-confidence - on moment they can climb mountains, the next they can barely cope with the supermarket. This often means that the person with a Capricorn Ascendant is very confident is some areas (usually work) and quite shy and reserved in others (usually personal). An inability to see themselves clearly leads them to ignore the compliments people offer, and to seriously undervalue their abilities and strengths. Once settled into a relationship, the Capricorn rising person is surprisingly sensitive and emotional, although a tendency to worry does sometimes turn into nagging. Digestive upsets are easily caused by emotional tension, and pessimism can be a real problem. Inherently rational, the Capricorn rising person needs to make room in their lives for spirituality.

Aquarius Ascendant

'Enigmatic' is perhaps the best way to describe someone with an Aquarius Ascendant. The diffidence and emotional coolness of the sun sign are even more evident with Aquarius rises, as is the independent nature and free spirit. Kind and friendly, the Aquarius rising person needs to learn to accept others at face value and not to erect barriers. Eager for self-knowledge, they nonetheless deliberately make it difficult for others to get too close. Relationships are quite an issue in this placing, with the subject always been torn between wanting to retain their independence and freedom yet at the same time longing for a loving relationship. At times perverse and very stubborn, these people can be their own worse enemies, yet they are true humanitarians - sometimes more concerned about the world at large than their own individual loved ones.

Pisces Ascendant

When Pisces rises the person concerned can be in real danger of losing their identity, especially if in a relationship with someone with much stronger personality traits. The Pisces rising person is in many ways a mirror, reflecting back at others precisely what they want to see, yet the true person remains hidden, vulnerable and more than a little frightened. With enormous imaginative and creative talents, the person with Pisces Ascendant is probably one of the true artists of the zodiac, in whatever form they may choose to use their skills. Sensitive and more than a little gullible they need to take care that they are not taken advantage of. Shyness and a lack of confidence are common, as are psychic and healing abilities and a great deal of spiritual wisdom.

The Midheaven, or MC (Medium Coeli) is one of the most important angles in the birth chart. The Midheaven traditionally indicates career, status, aim in life and aspirations.

The Midheaven is the name given to the point where the ecliptic crosses the meridian (line of longitude) which passes through the birth or event in question. It follows, therefore, that the Midheaven position will be the same for anyone born along the same line of longitude at the same time on the same day. In the Placidus house system, the Midheaven forms the cusp of the 10th house; in the equal house system it can be found in the 9th, 10th or 11th house. The other end of this axis, 'beneath' the earth, is the point known as the IC or Immum Coeli.

It could be said that the Midheaven sign represents our life goal; the ascendant sign represents our way of achieving that goal, or our unconscious strategy for attaining it.

Whilst the Midheaven is traditionally thought of as indicating a goal in terms of career or working life, it is not confined to this type of goal, and can indicate very personal or spiritual goals too. The individual will identify with and admire the qualities of the sign on the Midheaven, whether or not they actually have those qualities themselves.

Midheaven Signs and Career Choices

When an astrologer offers career guidance to someone, the Midheaven is certainly not the only factor to be taken into consideration. We cannot look at a Midheaven sign and say "Oh yes, you need to go and become an accountant"! Looking at the Midheaven sign does give us an indication of the type of career the individual would *like* to have - although whether this is possible/practical would need to be assessed through a careful look at the rest of the natal chart in detail.

Bearing this in mind, let's take a brief look at the types of work and careers associated with each Midheaven sign:

Aries Midheaven: Requires freedom in a career, would not be well suited to strict routine. Noisy, dirty or dangerous environments are not a problem for this person. Strong spirit of enterprise means that this is a good placement for self-employment, although foolish impulsive risks may be taken. Typical career routes include electronics, mechanics, the armed forces, fitness instruction, engineering, self-employment in the IT industry.

Taurus Midheaven: Needs some kind of steady career path in order to function best. Irregular income is frightening. Open air careers appeal. Typical career routes include sports, horticulture or agriculture, financial management, food industry, accountancy, building, banking, singing, physiotherapy.

Gemini Midheaven: Communication is the key to a fulfilling career, but these people need a lot of variety and stimulation. Not overly ambitious. Typical career routes include sales, the media, writing, advertising, retailing, youth work, the hotel industry, interpreting/translation, teaching.

Cancer Midheaven: Requires some continuity in career, as there is a dislike of change. Shrewd business sense is either present or aspired to, but money is not the principle motivation in career. Typical career routes include nursing and the 'caring' professions, social work, restaurant trade, historian, architecture, child care industry.

Leo Midheaven: Likes to be the centre of attention in their career, but will not tolerate difficult conditions. Ambitious and financially motivated, although much happier when they have an emotional attachment to work too. Typical career routes include acting, performing, any artistic work, luxury trades, banking, fashion industry, medical profession, politics or local government, work with animals.

Virgo Midheaven: Tends to hide light behind a bushel. Work best as an 'assistant' rather than a 'leader', although will often be the real power behind a throne. Typical career routes include secretarial/personal assistant work, literary/publishing industry, administration or management of any kind, health club/leisure centre management, journalism, copywriting, psychology, the police, librarian, civil servant.

Libra Midheaven: Comfortable working conditions are a must, and this position is motivated by money. Peacemaker of the office. Typical career routes include the fashion and beauty industry, soft furnishing or interior design, antiques, diplomatic corps, the legal profession, language work, modelling.

Scorpio Midheaven: Of all signs, this position most requires emotional involvement in the career. Money motivation just won't do. Needs career security. Typical career routes include the armed forces, police, detective or forensic science work, investigative journalism, mining, self employment, research of any kind, medical profession, funeral industry, psychotherapist.

Sagittarius Midheaven: Needs to be challenged, not very good with routine. Not particularly money motivated, but is ambitious. Difficult working conditions usually no problem. Typical career routes include the legal profession, outdoor sports, veterinary profession, travel industry, export industry, university lecturer, town planning, space industry, airline industry, the church.

Capricorn Midheaven: Very ambitious for status, rather than necessarily for money. Quintessential self-made businessman. Typical career routes include self employment, politics, estate agency, farming, orthopaedics, homeopathy, engineering, exploration industry, dentistry, sculpting, civil service, stock broking.

Aquarius Midheaven: Need absolute freedom in their career, and need, above all, to be able to be innovative. Not particularly motivated by money. Typical career routes include cutting edge technology, space industry, airline industry, IT industry, optician, conservation, television work, photography, humanitarian work, publishing, the legal profession, telecommunications.

Pisces Midheaven: Often to be found working tirelessly in the background. Exceptional counselling abilities. Needs variety. Typical career routes include the caring professions (particularly the most emotionally demanding ones), work with the disadvantaged, the music industry, anything artistic, the wine trade, the sea or fishing industries, plumbing, the church, poet or author, the navy.

Tell us about your Asc/Mc axis. What signs are there? Planets? Major or tight aspects? From what you have just learned, describe how these placements color who you are.

Let's see...I have a Taurus Asc and Capricorn MC. No planets on either.
Aspects to ASC:

Sun trine ASC (9 orb, not sure if i should count this)
Venus Trine ASC (-5 orb)
Jupiter opposition ASC (-1 orb)

Aspects to MC:
Sun Trine MC (3 orb)
Moon Trine MC (5 orb)
Mercury Square MC (7 orb)
Mars sextile MC (-3 orb)
Jupiter quintile (?) MC (0 orb)
Saturn square MC (-1 orb)
Pluto square MC (-6 orb)

My Taurus ASC is pretty much on, especially with the stubbornness and security is a huge need. Physical proof and possessiveness is not that big with me but if I lose things permanently it freaks me out so I guess it does exist. Self-understanding does have to be found the hard way. Thyroid gland - found out it's a tad slow! Deep sexual need I don't have. Intense relationships yes, demanding yes, tower of strength yes.

Cappy MC what? Ambitious for status rather than money...umm...kind of both really. No: politics, estate agency, dentistry, civil service, stock broking. Capricorn seems to have things to do with money...I HATE dealing with money, I'm bad with numbers too. Yes: self-employment (may be anxiety inducing though), farming, ortho (physical therapy), homeopathy, engineering, sculpting. What is exploration industry? I think all those aspects to the MC messes it up a bit, especially that Saturn square.

Honestly I think the stubbornness, need for security, self-understanding parts of my ascendant interfere with the potential jobs my cappy midheaven could bring about. And all those aspects to my midheaven might be mixing up the midheaven itself up a bit, or I see the potential problems the hard aspects may cause to those. I wonder of the Pluto square would cause conflicts between career needs and need for major transformation at times.

HI 26TAURUS! you know i have always interpreted the sun sign to be more indicative of the "self" and I have always interpreted the ascendent to be the facade. but this interpretation tells the opposite! i think this is very interesting and i will think about it more because it is true that sun sign characteristics are very often more noticable than rising sign characteristics (until you really get to know someone.) cool!

so my ascendent is in scorpion and it is QUITE aspected...

asc. trine sun. which i interpret as a lending to a facade of smoothness and ease.

asc. opposed moon. which can only point towards emotional dissatisfaction and problems. this is helped by placing less importance on emotion.

asc. square mercury. conflict between thought/information and "self".

asc. trine venus. life is beautiful!

asc. square jupiter. CANT ACCOMPLISH GOALS FAST ENOUGH!!!!

scorpion asc. conjunct uranus (in scorpio). this can only be a good thing

asc. quintile true node. no idea.

asc. opposed chiron. conflict between self/other healing and ego.

asc. sextile pars fortunae. hmmmmm sounds good to me!

ok... MC is virgo and IC in pisces.

MC squared moon. again, emotion must take a back seat to karma. if too much time and energy is spent trying to achieve emotional satisfaction life will be nothing less than disaterous.

MC conjunct saturn. SERIOUS KARMA.

MC quintile uranus. no clue.

MC semisquare pluto. no idea.

MC trine chiron. after emotional crap is taken care of true healing powers emerge.

MC is aspected to almost all of the major asteroids but im not very familiar with them.

Cool!
My Asc is Gemini
and MC is Aries.

I think I have my moon on my Asc, I would say that because it's the first house, right?
If I'm talking about my Asc sign then I have Chiron and True node there.

Asepects to ASC:
Sun Trine ASC
Moon conjunct ASC
Pluto Trine ASC
Neptune and Jupiter Opposing ASC

Aspects to MC:
Uranus Trine MC
Mars Square MC
Venus Inconjunct MC

...I think that's all.

Now I'm going to find out what it all means to me!

I am a Leo Rising with a Taurus MC
thanks.

Leo Rising:
pompous or bossy? lol *sigh* lol. maybe, a bit of a loner. well organized? lol - well, i can find what i'm looking for but if you are talking about finances - i can be a bit rigid, yes / when it comes to my work product, yup.....now if YOU had to go find what you were looking for through my things - you would no way, no how be able to find it or even want to be bothered, maybe. otherwise, sounds about right - i feel much more fulfilled when i'm working. much more and when i'm not, or even when it's time to go to bed, i feel i should be working so i try to pretend i'm working on anything/everything that i may see, hear, taste, etc., etc., etc.... i wake up looking forward to working. i could easily get lost or depressed if i'm NOT working. when I "run away" I run to working. lol - my back and neck are in pain right now / that happens sometimes but then again, i have to leave work soon so...........also, i'm the oldest of four and basically, the head of the household so...............yup, and much that i do is work and everything else is ?????? (that's the look that comes over my face if it has nothing to do with work). work is actually like salmon cake and french friends with like 2 tablespoons of macaroni tunafish salad - oh and a side of mixed grilled vegetables. all else is like friday night special / castor oil. yuck. but then again, after a while of taking castor oil - it's not bad. once i get on track though - i promise to address all else but it doesn't look like that's what i'm supposed to do so i'm working past that mentality of "once i get on track". by the way, concerned with status - you bet i am but not as a replica of someone else "status" but my own aka setting trends, which is fun.

and seeings that my MC is in Taurus:
lol - yup, there you have it. my income has been irregular for some time now - and yes, it's FRIGHTENING. maybe that's why my neck and back hurt sometimes. ummmm, hmmmm with the career routes, ok, all of them seem interesting and i know i could/would/should/have gotten into them........i've had quite a few jobs. the one i have now is the longest job i've ever had - almost 6 years and i think it's more because i can't afford to miss one paycheck plus i like to eat food other than one piece of chicken a day, sleep on a mattress with a roof over my head and to, at least, have a fan in 90 degree weather and a blanket in 0 degree weather........(other jobs before that were no more than a year and it was just me supporting me)- yeah, FRIGHTENING and i'm looking forward to my next employment, maybe it'll be my own business. I am coming out of sporadically, clumsily, and carelessly being all over the place with my focus.......i do like consulting though, so that's my goal, actually is to be a consultant of sorts......i'm better at thinking of other's concerns, helping others than being in the spotlight / besides, the response is better.

also, my mars is in leo in the 12th house and i have chiron and midheaven in taurus.

Uranus Opposition Midheaven
Mars Square Midheaven
(btw, that's the first time i read what those two mean - that's interesting......i guess that's what this lady meant when she said i should get fed up, know what i mean?)

I always laugh when I read the interps for Gem. Midheaven. I have no ambition to be in any of those career fields. I actually majored in Media last year at school, and found it so boring I ended up auditioning for Theatre for this year. Yay. I got in.

Hey free bird,MC is the topmost point in your chart.Do you see a vertical axis in your chart, the point on top is the MC,it is the cusp of the tenth house, indicates the way the world see's you,and your career, the feilds which might suite you(this of course is modded by other factors).the point diametrically opposite is the IC,which is the cusp of your fourth house, and hence describes the environment at home etc...

For you i guess it would be virgo..
MC also known as midhaeven

My ASC is in 25 degrees Libra. My chart is so very heavy with scorpio influences all in my 1st house, pretty much. Being that my ASC is close to Scorpio anyway, it's greatly overshadowed by all the Plutonian I have leaking out of me :-P. However, I do still display the whole unhappy unless partnered with someone situation a lot. More often than not, I'd stay in a horrible and miserable relationship just because I don't want to be alone and just so I can say I'm part of one. When I was younger... (i'm still young but i mean young.. ER!! lol) like in High School, even middle school I found myself striving to fit in more than anything. I was so easily influenced by others, it was sickening. I hated it if someone pointed it out cuz I always wanted to believe I was my own person, but I'd meet these cool people and all their traits..(good AND bad) would just mold into the next personality I would wear for the month. But now, I've grown out of that state. Its still in the back of my mind, however, I'm comfortable with myself and standing alone...though, once in a while, it feels good to assimilate..

My MC is in Leo. I've never really had an exact idea of what I wanted to do. Just that I wanted to be known. I wanted the fame, the appreciation, the recognition. I still do. So my main drive for a career or what not has subconsciously been "Will it get me noticed?" and "Who's gonna answer to me because I'll answer to no one!!"

That is so incredably true!

Right on point!

I have a Scorp MC too, that's pretty right too. I need some sort of emotional ties to something, or better yet someone involved, to get a job done right.

The Midheaven is only second in importance to the Ascendant in terms of defining the place of an individual within the scope of one's participation in society. The Ascendant speaks to us of "Who" we are in terms of how we project ourselves out into life and as a consequence, are perceived by others.
The Midheaven tells us "What" we do with this sense of personal identity and points to the place we achieve in the world among our fellow human beings. From the soul-centered perspective, we can say that the Ascendant points to the potential of the individual to create an environment through which the intent of the soul may be manifested. The Midheaven however, reveals the nature of how we culminate the soul's purpose in the life of the personality in terms of what we achieve in the "world of (wo)men". In effect, the Midheaven fleshes out the potential indicated by the Ascendant, its exoteric and esoteric planetary rulers, and the major aspects from the other planets in the horoscope to this vital point. The Midheaven of a horoscope expresses the maturation and ripening of the nascent possibilities inherent in the natal chart. It reveals the methods and means through which a person we express his or her sense of personal responsibility to the world. On the most mundane level, the MC indicates the nature of the contribution one can make through a particular career or profession. In the final analysis, the Midheaven will bear the following identifying label: "This is my path of achievement in the world and my record of fulfilled (or unfulfilled) responsibilities."
We may also speak of the Midheaven as the "Father's House", as it is the astrological domicile the is most closely connected to all authority figures in one's life: parents, teachers, mentors, guides, employers, and older people in general. The Midheaven and its corresponding natal house—the tenth—is also the area in our horoscope that has to deal with our relationship with corporations, governments, and the general rules and regulations that go into making the structure of society of which we are a part. Strong planetary afflictions between the rulers of the Midheaven and the Ascendant (especially if Uranus is also involved), often points to an individual who has a difficult time in conforming to one's surrounding social structures and strictures.
The Fourth House (IC or Nadir) is of course directly opposite to the Tenth in the natal chart. It is interesting for us to note that in traditional astrology, the Fourth is considered to be the "Mother's House". We could therefore extend these examples by correctly stating that the Fourth is the house of one's family, clan, or tribe, while the Tenth is the house of the civilization which develops as a results of tribal evolution. The Midheaven has a much more impersonal focus and purpose than that of the Nadir. The former represents the most objective degree in the zodiac and as a result speaks about the way we externalize our lives, while the latter is the most subjective significator in the natal map and reveals the most intimately internalized facet of ourselves. We could say that the cusp of the IC represents our biological and psychological roots but the MC is the flowering of the fruits of this karmic family tree. If the roots have been well nourished, fed, warmed and watered, then our personal Tree of Life will produce abundantly. If the roots have been stunted, undernourished or abused, then the individual will have to struggle to become successful in the world and fulfill his or her soul's promise.
As this point, let us examine each of the twelve signs of the zodiac as they affect the nature and intent of the Midheaven in one's life. We can say that a person's career, urge for achievement and soul purpose in life are modified in the Tenth House by the sign.

Midheaven in signs:

Aries as a need to be an originator, instigator, initiator, and prime mover in his or her area of social endeavor. When the Ram rules the MC, the individual is a self-starter, a person for whom one of the most important life lessons is to master the technique of kindling his or her own creative spark. It is a sign/cusp combination points to a person who has to be the captain of his own professional ship. If this martial tendency is taken to an extreme, just might leave the ship without a crew. It is therefore very important for the Aries/Midheaven person to learn to cooperate with others for the purpose of achieving one's professional goals. When Aries is on the MC, a person is in constant pursuit of the new, bold, and courageous. One brings courage, initiative, driven and passion to whatever field one chooses. The astrological position of the planet Mars in the chart is very important to analyze and understand: the sign will tell the astrologer how personal drive is brought to bear on Tenth House issues. The house will tell us where in the life we can expect help and/or hindrances in terms of achieving one's goals.

Taurus with an orientation towards making the best out of one's talents and abilities, or at the very least, having to rely on one's own resources in order to achieve success. Taurus/Midheaven people strive to make the most out of what they have, but is they wish to achieve greater success in life, they may have to learn how to be more flexible and open to other people's input. This very earthy sign indicates that financial achievement is a major goal in any professional life choice. Strength of purpose and determination come with the Bull when it is on the Midheaven, but so does stubbornness and resistance to change. One is very much concerned with having or creating a career that is reflective of one's own life values and is most comfortable in social situations when people support and share one's view of things. The position of Venus in the chart has to be noted as it will be a prime indicator the potential for financial success in one's career. When Taurus rules the Tenth, one of the most important factors for personal growth has to be our ability to let things go when their true value has run its course. As the esoteric ruler, Vulcan (located within 8º of the Sun in the natal map), will point to what must be destroyed in order for a more highly evolved set of life principles to develop.

Gemini as a distinct need for variety and versatility in one's professional life. Writing, journalism, design, and any career in which one functions as an agent or intermediary are perfect outlets for this sign/cusp combination. It is most challenging for a person with the Twins at the MC to remain behind a desk performing routine tasks and functions. What would make that desk interesting however, is a battery of phone lines, a couple of computer terminals, and an abundant opportunity to leave the desk in order to communicate with others. From the soul-centered perspective, Gemini on the Tenth points to the need to bring diverse people and ideas together in order to achieve greater harmony. Whether soul or personality-centered, Gemini on the MC often indicates an individual who is involved in more than one occupation at the same time. At the very least, there is an impatience with the predictable and a definite avoidance of having to punch in the clock at the start and termination of each working day. The position of Venus will reveal the soul-centered purpose surrounding the MC while Mercury is more the personality-centered planetary indicator. The house position of the "Quicksilver planet", points to where there is a significant interest in the creative expression of one's career drives and goals.

Cancer as an indication of one who has been highly influenced by one's biological karma. This means that the parents' career choices and one's family background strongly condition one's own life direction. The mother is often the more dominant of the two parents when the Crab tenants the Tenth. Cancer on this cusp also indicates that one is inclined to deal directly with people. There is an urge to nurture others as a result of one's professional interests. This can even extend itself to those areas in life where food, lodging, real estate, care giving (either to children or the elderly), and other associated lines of work, predominate. If the life is lived on the soul-centered level, then the effects of the biological karma have been transcended. In this case, the individual lives beyond the orbit of the Moon and one's mother and family. The individual then moves into the realm of Neptune and the whole human family becomes one's own. In this respect, look for a career that is geared to the nurturing and protection of society at large. No matter what one's gender, Cancer on the MC points to an individual who embodies the essence of mothering.

Leo as a tendency to make a distinct personal mark in life and achieve as much notice for others as possible. The Lion brings strength, courage, vitality, and potency to the Midheaven and the activities of the Tenth House. It's position indicates a person who seeks to be noticed through his or her personal, creative achievements as the urge for recognition is usually quite strong. This is a natural sign/house combination for a person involved in the arts, theater, and fashion. All leisure activities and luxury goods come under the Lion's influence. Yet on the soul-centered level, the fiery nature of the Sun burns brightly as the vehicle for the soul's intent. In this case, Leo on the Tenth is useful to inspire growth and development in other people. It is a position that when used lovingly and wisely, promotes the urge to live. It therefore encourages the expression of beauty in all its many forms and most importantly, inspires other people to search out the true nature of spiritual reality: the primary create urge. On the personality level, Leo on the tenth can sometimes contribute to the feeling that one's professional participation should be considered more important than anyone else's. When this tendency is not modified, it can easily lead to conflicts with co-workers, employees, or employers.

Virgo with great attention to detail and a thoroughly practical attitude to one's career. When Virgo occupies the MC, work is definitely at the center of one's life. This is a person who seeks to take pride in his or her professional outlook and output. Level and quality of performance is very definitely at the top of one's list and nothing short of perfection is the rule and not the exception. Soul-centered individuals with this position have achieved a definite degree of mastery over any number of tools, techniques, methodologies, and skills. They are actively at work using what they have already earned karmically in order to create even more inspiring projects. The goal is to create greater healing and inclusivity through their particular "field of service", for service is definitely the orientation of all their professional endeavors. On the level of the personality, Virgo on the Midheaven can lead to a sense of dissatisfaction with personal achievement and the feeling that nothing one does is good enough. Such an attitude can be very useful to inspire one on to greater achievement but when taken to an extreme, may contribute to low self-esteem.

Libra as a distinct orientation to partnership . This sign/cusp combination describes an individual who prefers an equal sharing of rewards and responsibility within the professional sphere of life. This is a person who definitely does not like to do things alone and who in fact, may have a very distinct talent for harnessing the abilities and potentials of other people in order to achieve mutual aims and goals. On the other hand, especially if Venus is afflicted, there can be a kind of lazy indecisiveness that inhibits success at partnership especially where the expression of personal ambitions is concerned. If Venus is well aspected by other planets and positively placed in the horoscope, Libra on the Tenth is indicative of one who can use personal charm and magnetism to great advantage. From the soul-centered perspective, such magnetic appeal only serves to link the higher and lower self so that the soul's intent may be actualized through the career. When this link is extended outwards into society, we find a person who is a great messenger of peace, harmony and wholeness.

Scorpio with an intense attitude towards the achievement of success in life. If the rest of the horoscope supports it, this is a person who will let no barriers stand in the way of personal accomplishment. Even if the Midheaven is well aspected and Mars and Pluto are strong, the road to success is never an easy one. The very nature of the sign itself requires that there be a series of ups and downs, successes and failures, so that the desire nature evolves totally under the will of the soul. Once the alignment is achieved between the desire for success as conceived by the separated/lower self and the focus of the true intent of the Higher Self, then the individual may go forth into life as a spiritual warrior, conquering not only his or her fears but providing the inspiration for others to likewise and move forward in life. At its lowest form of expression, Scorpio on the MC can refer to an unscrupulous person, one who seeks to use and abuse other people's energies purely for the purposes of personal fulfillment. In all cases, the continuation of this attitude leads to the individual's ultimate downfall. Scorpio rises and regenerates through the death of attachment to the separated self and the birth of the intent of the soul in one's consciousness.

Sagittarius with a strong and consistent focus on all possible opportunities for personal advancement. Sagittarius is the archer who shoots his aspirational arrows into the heavens of all possibilities: "I see the goal, I reach the goal, and then I see another.", says the bright-eyed Centaur. The attitude when Jupiter rules the MC is that "the sky's the limit". Jupiter, the ruling planet of this sign, expands the fiery, visionary qualities of this sign, creating an ambitious frame of reference towards the MC and consequently, one's professional standing in life. Yet the world of possibilities may outrank the world of practicalities, and people with Sagittarius on the MC should make sure that there feet are properly anchored to the earth. "Temperance" is a keyword of advice to people with Sagittarius strongly placed in their natal charts. All professions involving sports, travel, publishing and teaching are natural to this sign/cusp combination. From the level of the soul, what is published and taught is the Ancient Wisdom, the common thread that unites all the world's religions, supporting the spiritual Path of all men and women of Good Will.

Capricorn with strong ambitions and a great drive towards the rewards and status that come with worldly success. Capricorn is the natural ruling sign of the Tenth House and as such its position at the MC is particularly significant. Typically, this is an indication of someone who will work long and hard to reach a certain pinnacle. Real success usually comes later in life. Capricorn on this cusp indicates that a person has "to pay his dues". On the level of the personality, one can feel that delays and the consequent frustration of inhibited desire are only annoyances that need to be overcome. The orientation is to satisfy the needs and demands of the separated self. This often results in fear: both fear of loss and fear of remaining on top, if one ever gets there. In any event, one is eventually toppled. On a soul-centered level, this "dues" comes in the form of those disciplines that lead the seeker to goal of discipleship. Yet once the top of the mountain is attained, the walker on the Path has an experience of light/consciousness that makes the journey very worthwhile. The individual is then ready to descend from this peak experience and bring his or her vision, insight, strength and power out into a hungry world for distribution and enlightenment.

Aquarius with a strong need for independence and personal freedom. This is a highly individualistic placement that indicates a person who is not happy in a career that is circumscribed by predictability and routine. This is a sign/cusp combination that is ever seeking a wider range of communicative possibilities. More often than not, the career is group oriented. This group may be a corporation, an intimate circle of closely allied colleagues, or it may also be the larger collective of humanity. What is essential to the success of a person with Aquarius on the MC is that such an individual carve out a very personal niche, a highly individualistic signature in the area of his or her professional interest. It is then that the person may work to secure his or her place in the larger working group, networking with others in order to achieve common goals and aspirations. Those who are soul-centered find that the orientation of their urge to link up and communicate is to spread the new message of our times: all of humanity is one interlocking and interlinking planetary whole. It is through service to this whole that all of its individual parts will be uplifted, nourished, and sustained.

Pisces as the need to be of inspiration and help to others. The Fish swim in the waters of compassionate understanding. When placed at the Midheaven, Pisces stimulates careers that work to support and care for people in difficult life circumstances. This is why healers, counselors, hospice and other care workers, all fall under this broad umbrella of influence. Pisces relates to things that are hidden and behind the scenes. It is no wonder then that many people with this sign/house combination find themselves drawn to scientific research. On another level, Pisces is the sign most closely related to illusion and as a result many of the professions connected with film, entertainment, cosmetics, masquerade and ritual are all ruled by the Fish. Psychics, mediums, mystics, trance channels, and magicians—whether true or false—also come under this sign ruled by the planet Neptune, Father of the Oceans. The soul-centered individual with Pisces on the cusp of the Midheaven works to dispel and destroy all those glamours and mirages that keep a person away from the Path of Truth. This is an individual who knows falsehood in a way so profound that he or she can no longer be fooled by, in the Tibetan Master's words, the "illusions that delude the senses".

...One of the major differences between traditional astrology and soul-centered astrology is the focus on the ascendant or rising sign of the natal chart. The emphasis in traditional astrology is usually placed on the sun sign and the position of the sun by house, sign, and aspect in the horoscope. The sun is seen as representing the life principle, our major creative impulse, and our fundamental sense of individuality. All of this is true-from the level of the personality. In soul-centered astrology, we consider the rising sign as the incarnating point of the Presence of the Soul. We look to the rising sign to give us hints as to the reason for the present incarnation. In this respect, we judge the rising sign astrologically from the perspective of its Ray quality, applying this understanding of the Rays to the essential esoteric meaning of the sign on the ascendant. In soul-centered astrology therefore, the rising sign tells us a lot about the future: why we are here, what we came to so, and the nature of our Soul's purpose. We are helped further along in our assessment of this essential purpose by judging the placement of that particular rising sign's esoteric planetary ruler in the natal horoscope.
And what of the Sun? In soul-centered astrology, we can say that the Sun in its sign has four primary purposes:
1. It reveals the energies, temperament, and characteristics of the present incarnation.
2. It speaks about the nature of the personality life and the tools and talents, our "equipment", brought over from previous lifetimes in order to be used for the present.
3. It is the force field through which the personality expresses itself and thus comes into its own self-awareness.
4. It reveals certain indications about the Ray makeup of the personality.
Let us now begin our exploration of each of the twelve signs of the zodiac, taken as the rising sign in the soul-centered chart. I will also mention the esoteric ruler of each of the signs and make a few comments about this planet in order to help further your own investigation and study of your horoscope...

AC in Libra, Mars and Pluto in 1st
MC in Cancer, Moon in 10th

Mars is the only planet conj AC, though pretty wide, 8°.

My AC makes a trine to Jupiter & Chiron, and a sextile to Sun and Uranus.

My MC quincunx Uranus

quote:

Don't agree with all of it, but it's pretty good.
