What on the chart tells you if a sign is on the cusp of the house?

And what is the significance?

This is another question that's been on my mind since I learned astrology. My rising is 25" Pisces, so Aries pretty much dominates my first house. The same goes with every house in my chart. So is the effect of the sign that has bigger degree more noticeable than the sign in the beginning of the houses that only has 5"?

Like, my 7th House is in the cusp of Virgo but Libra dominated. And I'm so Libra regarding my relationships. I'd like to think the ruler of my 7th House is Libra since 7th House is Libra's natural house. Can I?

Do I confuse the question?

Wednesday,

I don't use signs on the cusp of a house if there are planets in a house. Your chart is an example of the reason why. You DO have Virgo (ruled by Mercury) on the cusp of your 7th house (relationships) but do NOT have Mercury in the 7th house. But you have Venus (ruled by Libra) focused IN your 7th house...so you naturally focus on Libra energy a lot more than Virgo energy in your relationships.

Off the cusp,

Tim

Tim - Hi!
So if my 7th house cusp is Scorpio, but 7th is mostly dominated by Sag and only two planets here are Jupiter and Neptune in Sag how does this effect my attitude to relationships
Sorry if this seems redundant to ask about my own behaviours but am soul searching due to having been single for 7 years!!!

cat,

With Sagittarius (expansion, also wisdom) modifying Jupiter (expansion, also wisdom) and Neptune (spirituality) focused in the 7th house, you may attract many spiritual relationships of some type. You also might find you learn best from being around other people.

Guessing,

Tim

Also consider looking at Libra and Venus in your chart for more information about how you approach relationships.

BTW - Libra and Venus both 5th house, any info on these?

cat,

Libra (relationships) modifying Venus (relationships) indicates energy in relationships. However the 5th house is about our self-expression. This self-expression is also about our dating. So, with Venus focused in the 5th house, this might indicate you like "dating realtionships".

Guessing,

Tim

Wilson, I have been meaning to e-mail you for a long time now, and I keep having things pop up. So, I will just make it brief and post it here: Would you like to co-moderate this Forum with lalalinda? It was her idea, and I concur that you have unselfishly given so much to Lindaland.

Tim - firstly thanx for your feedback, secondly congrats on the above moderator thingy - hope it works out well for you, I'm sure you'll be a bonus to everyone else here trying to learn
I do have another question though sorry
- I did alot of dating when I was young (not sleeping around mind you ) but the romantic part of my soul has gone into love always hoping for 'the one' and I have been disappointed thus far. I'm wondering if my approach to love is too idealistic due to jupiter/neptune in 7th and venus in 5th. When I have REALLY laid my heart on the line yes I have learnt lessons but I have been let down BADLY - does anything indicate longterm love in a chart, will these placements consistently lead me to relationships that are short term, i.e dating? and, last one, is synastry the only thing that indicates a twin soul meeting, i.e is there anything in the natal chart that indicates whether I will meet my twin soul in this lifetime?
Thanx again

cat,

I believe if a person wants to get into a relationship, then all they have to do is get out and "relate" with someone! Ask enough people and someone is bound to say, "Yes" to a relationship. And that's where the birth chart comes in. People who naturally focus on relationships (have planets in the 7th house) are going to be more patient and focused on getting relationships that those who are not focused on relationships (do not have planets in the 7th house).

But that's where I stop with using the chart to try to understand relationships. Trying to find the "perfect relationship" or the "twin soul" or the "ultimate union" by staring at a chart is NOT the answer. Relationships take hard work...and time. The challenge for you is to take the time to find a person who COULD be a good relationship for you...and then to work TOGETHER to create that relationship.

Putting aside astrology, perhaps the problem is you do not know what exactly you want to have in a relationship. Until you know what you want in a relationship, you will never be able to get it. Once you know what you want in a relationship, you can use the date as an "interview process".

Ask the person about your mental list of "must haves" in a relationship. And then see how they "measure up" to what you want. Date people a LONG time and see if they are consistent...or if they change into something else once they think the "pressure's off" and they can reveal who they REALLY are.

Dating energy is the same energy as an actor on the stage uses...to put on a great performance and convince the audience they are sincere. Be aware that everyone on a date is trying to be "as good as they can be"...so take some time to "peek behind the curtain" and see what they are REALLY like. Most likely you will have MUCH fewer lasting dates...but those which DO last will be MUCH more satisfying to you.

Mostly non-astrologically,

Tim

Thanx Tim - good feedback as usual, spot on for the most part. I think my problem with dating is sort of something u mentioned about the best behaviour stuff, it all seems so superficial - and i think I have a tendency to expect too much too soon - so thanx, more to think about, no easy answers I guess

I would love co-moderating this forum with you.
I think you have a brilliant astrological mind and I admire all of your Virgo qualities.

I agree with Randall about you giving so much so unselfishly to lindaland.

Linda,

Yes, it is a yes! However, as I originally posted, I am interested in getting your ideas about what I can do to assist you in your moderating of this list: it seems to me you do a great job all by yourself!

Trying to help,

Tim

Kim,

On the off-chance you are still checking this board, I have replied to the email you sent me. As to your original question, since I don't use house cusps in my chart interpretations, I was unable to answer the question about significance. You can tell a sign is on the cusp because there will be a sign right next to the line that starts the house.

For example, in this chart, right next to the "MC" there is the sign of Libra, indicating the 10th house cusp is Libra. Another example: right next to the "AC" is the sign of Sagittarius, indicating the 1rst house cusp is Sagittarius.

Explaining lately,

Tim

Thanks Tim,

That helps. Why do you not use cusps in you charts?

I will email you when I get my thoughts together. I have much to add.

curiously,
Kim

Kim,

Thanks for the email! I have emailed you back and hope the email helps explain a few things! Let me know! As to your question, just to be clear, I DO have cusps in my astrological charts...ALL charts have cusps on them...but I don't use them in doing chart interpretations.

The reason I don't use house cusps in my interpretations is because I think that there is MORE information in a chart from WHERE energy is focused (i.e., which planet is in which house) than in what is the sign on the edge (cusp) of the house. I think of it like this...which is more important: the people in the house or the doorknob on the door? To me, the people in the room are more important than the doorknob, so I look at planets in the house instead of signs on the cusp of the house. And this works well since people who want their charts looked at are seldom interested in houses with NO planets in them...they are more interested in the houses WITH planets in them...because that's where the party is!

In a partying house,

Tim

hey tim - i'm confused as well

i have a 24 degree leo ascendant with a saturn in virgo in the first house and a mars in leo in the 12th house (sun in 5th (sag), mercury in 5th (cap)). even my descendant is 24 aquarius and the rest pisces / no planets in there (uranus in scorp end of 3rd and neptune in sag 4th)

when reading horoscopes though - i tend to read both virgo and leo, as well as my moon and sun but ascendant reading reasonate more for my daily life. when reading ascendant description / i'm half leo and half virgo - it's frustrating and weird!

when reading forecasts for the week/month - sometimes the leo forecast is cool and the virgo one is cool / like a half and half. i can't decide which one i am more like.

i usually get the brunt/blessing of both of them.

what am i to do?

amisha,

I suggest not reading any more horoscopes! Instead, take a look at your transit chart on astro.com and see how the outer energies are affecting your inner energies. Take a look for the "heavies" (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) aspecting your Ascendant, Descendant, Nadir, or Midheaven...especially if they make a conjunction to any of these points. THAT is when there will be major life events going on. Other things to look for are when these planets square or oppose themselves...those also indicate major life changes. As to the day to day chart readings...life changes too quickly to try to keep up with all the "little things"...just roll with the punches and keep on truckin'!

Truckin' on,

Tim

since receiving the newspaper isn't as easy as it use to be - i don't read it day to day like i use to.

you are right - i was on the verge of driving myself crazy / reading each sign for each house - it was a project!

I will do it the old fashion way - look at my transit chart myself. there is a really interesting site - grupovenus - if you look at the transit chart / you can actually see the planets moving! You are right, life does move quickly.

anyway - i will check for contacts to my nadir, ascendant, descendant, and mc to save me from making a mountain out of a molehill.

thank you!

Use to making everything a major project,
amisha

This has always confused me because my ascendant is in Virgo at 5 degrees, and so is my second house but at 29 degrees, making my 8th house cusp at 29 degrees in Pisces. Then my third house cusp is at 29 degrees in Libra, making my 9th at 29 degrees in Aries. Neither Taurus or Scorpio are on any house cusps. My Pluto is in Scorpio, but none of my planets are in Taurus. I don't even have any planets in the 2nd house. Is it anything significant that I lack Taurus as much as I do or should I just look to the house which Taurus is mostly in? I may just be completely missing the point though..haha

xd,

You said:

quote:

It's a little difficult to follow all this without a chart to see! But what I say is to focus on the signs and planets you DO have instead of taking a look at what you "lack". For example, Scorpio (transformation, also power) modifying Pluto (transformation, also power) indicates a VERY powerful Pluto. Now take a look at where all that "power" is located in your chart (i.e., what house Pluto is in) and that shows you your "power center".

Powerfully,

Tim

I guess so. It just throws me off when I'm trying to piece things together, but here's my chart if that helps at all.
