Here is my natal:

And the progressive:

Specifically, why did my moon change sign? And how am I meant to read the aspects in the little chart at the bottom?

Hello, Pennylane, How's it going.

OK so what you have is a secondary progressed chart. It moves forward 1 day for every yr you've lived, roughly. So if you were born on Aug 5, 1962, then when you are 10 yrs old, your progressed chart would resemble the chart from Aug 15, 1962, roughly moving forward 10 days.

For your progressed chart, in red, on the 2nd line, you see
Date: 15 July 1991
If you made up a chart for that day it would basically resemble the progressed chart you have before you.

In secondary progressed the Moon will be moving the fastest, just like it does on any given day. Moon in progressed chart has a big importance for this reason. You can use it to gauge responses to new situations as they effect you in an emotional way. The Moon stays in a progressed sign for roughly 2-2 1/2 yrs. It doesn't erase the quality of your n.Moon, but it adds in a new influence. People are always changing and the progressed charts reflect this.

The most common method is to read the natal against the progressed to see how the changes you are going through affect your core self. Sometimes these changes make difficult natal experiences easier, and sometimes they make easier ones more difficult.
