This is probably a really obvious question that I should know the answer to by now, but what do the black dotted lines mean in charts from astro.com? I know the green lines are quincunx aspects, but I never figured out what the black lines are...

I've posted my chart as an example

Ok, sorry for posting too soon, I did some more research trying to figure out what these aspects are and I guess I have:

Jupiter sesquiquadrate Mercury:

You may feel some confusion when it comes to deciding whether to attend to the
details of organising your life, or to getting involved in the overall picture.
Only experience will help you to learn when to adopt a methodological approach
and when to ignore the details in favour of taking the broader view of a situ-
ation. In time you may develop skill in dealing with both issues. http://www.achernar.btinternet.co.uk/mercuryaspects.html

Mars sesquiquadrate Neptune:

there is probably some frustration and irritation between your energy and how it is directed (Mars) and your ability to be creative and spiritual. (Neptune) This Neptune energy probably dissipates your ability to direct the motion of your life. Mars wants control of your energy, your action, your desire principle, how to get what you want, but Neptune, since it has such a different energy, tends to hold Mars back by taking that energy and then misdirecting it. It is frustrating to have a focus and then that focus just disappears! http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110816103552AALhICb

Sun semi-square Moon:

Being self-reliant is more important for you than for most people. Only with great effort and some difficulty do you manage to communicate your aims and intentions to others. Doing projects on your own is not only easiest, it is often your mechanism for learning compromise and coming to terms with your own inner conflicts. In groups, your own conflicts sometimes get projected onto others. http://www.cafeastrology.com/natal/sunsemisquaremoon.html

Which all makes soooo much sense. I won't even try to deny that any of that is true of me... I guess I'm just wondering how important are these minor aspects considered in general? Are they more difficult to overcome?

Also, what's the importance of these minor aspects in synastry, do they just add more challenges or are can they be challenging in an exciting/ growth oriented sort of way?

Thanks

I was thinking semi square. Is the sesquasquare, the same i.e the black dotted line?

I have a friend who is into the minor aspects. He says they are very important. I have not focused on them. I think the energy of them is not as strong.

Yeah, the sesquiquadrate and semi-square are what I found in my chart for the black dotted lines (although there are some that I'm not able to see clearly or figure out)

I'm not really sure what the difference between these two aspects are, all I found was that the semi-square is 45 degrees and is "agitating or provoking" and the sesquiquadrate is 135 degrees and is "irritating"

Thanks for your response, I wouldn't think their energy would be as strong either, but it's interesting to read about them...
