I've read that Grand trines signify a harmony in the energies of both persons but I have questions:

1) Do Grand trines always involve planets or could it also be asteroids/arabic parts/midpoints etc?

2) If a GT means harmony, could it also mean that there is less challenge in a relationship, ergo, boring?

I don't use midpoints, but I know many people do. I would not count the Arabic part, but I don't know much about it.

I would not count asteroids for a Grand trine, but I would count Chiron.

Too many trines could be brother/sister. Yes, I think that would be the case and prolly boring, but great for a platonic friend, I would imagine.

Okay, I understand now. Studying charts (natal, synastry and the like) requires a LOT of hard work, really

You have to have a super passion for it, to study Astrology. It really takes a long time and a lot of cumulative work to start seeing the patterns. You have to do charts and pick people's brains, too. I do that, all the time, as you can see

I have always been into astrology but I never expected it to be complicated! I'm starting to get a grip on each detail but I still have trouble putting them together as a whole.

It is a time thing. It has taken about 4 years for it to really come together for me
