As a kid I hardly could defend myself, but was extremely protective when it came to other people, especially so called Underdogs.

Squares and Oppositions are considered negative aspects.
The Conjunction can be either negative or positive.. Some astrologers see it as positive - but it does depend on the planets involved.

Personally I relate a lot more to the 'Mars trine Neptune' interpretations out there - than I do to the 'Mars conj Neptune' ones.

Often the 'Mars conj Neptune' interpretations sound like a description of the square or opposition.
I have friends with the square and they seem to have problems with this aspect.. in terms of lacking clarity etc.. sometimes being addicted to drugs or alcohol.
I haven't had these problems.

Yes, I have heard you say this. Let me ask a question. Could Mars in neptune weaken goal setting in this world i.e. the practical life? If so, would a chart need to have compensating factors?

I can see Neptune relating to all of the above key words. I can see how it would affect me in those areas.. but not so much in more practical, daily life areas.

I have that natally in Sagrittarius and more than two thirds of the men I was together with had Mars In Scorpio.

I feel like I do have a strong Mars Energy and I attract Fire Suns very often, but I can't relate to the Mars in Sag description, that's just not me…..
