Hi!

I was wondering how important the exact birth time is in determining the house position of the moon. How long does it take the moon to progress through a house?

Thanks

Welcome, Friend. I don't really know this answer but the Moon does change with a small amount of time.
If you google it and find the answer, come back and tell me. Thanks!

There are many variables. If you use the equal house system, houses change sign twelve times in a day. That would be two hours for each Sign.

The Moon takes twenty-eight days to go through all twelve Signs. If it were a perfect circle, it would be two days, eight hours for each Sign. It's not, it's an elliptical orbit, hence the Super Moon. The time varies with the angle.

So that is a difficult question to answer. Do you know your birth time?

So you are trying to rectify?

I'm lousy at that.

If you put his Planets in your Houses, it will give you an idea.

Give me the birth information and I will look it up for you. Seven in the morning could be possible.

Location?
Time of Year?

Thanks. He said its "around" 7 am but isn't sure. I have been using 7 which puts him in 12 th house but at what time does it put him in the 11th or 1st house?

It depends on location and date. It changes with the Season.

Do you understand?

Think of what time the Sun comes up in July. Now compare it to December. It will change.

Now think of the Land of the Midnight Sun. Do you think it might change and be different at the Equatorial Regions?

There is a massive amount of variation, and you have to take that into account.

Oh, yeah; almost forgot the lovely Daylight Savings Time factor...

Oy.

Day light savings... is that taken into account in computer generated reports?

Is Vedic more accurate?

Yes, it is in mine.

You can set it the way you want it, or it will do it for you. Can't speak for anyone else's.

Experiment. Try going into astro.com and enter the birth time in increments to watch the rising sign change which will alter the position of all the planets. First start with 1 hour increments either direction, then go to 1/2 hr. and so on until you feel it is in the right spot.

I've seen where entering a time into a chart that was previously "unknown" may sometimes change the degree of the Sun or Moon, as if rounding up or down the number of the degree.

It's possible that switching the moon between 12H and 1H will not change the rising sign, but shifting it from 12H to 11H may change the rising sign

Your concern is not really the house placement of the moon but the exact rising sign or degree of the ascendant

Take a look at the person's image, which is a clue to the sign of the ascendant, and observe the personality they show outwardly to others at first meeting. Look especially at any planets that are exactly conjunct the ascendant.

Feel if the traits of this person align with the ascendant and the house positions of the other planets

If your only questionable placement is the moon, then surely his personality will tell you which house it is in

Moon placement without aspects are hard to read. I agree, that posting the chart would help. Looking at all the planetary placements and aspects sometimes show a theme and that would help determine the house of the moon.

in general, moon in first house is somewhat emotionally needy, or at least always expresses feelings and emotions on the surface - very sensitive to others, takes things personally, more self-centered than moon in 12H

moon in 12H has hidden emotions, can get depressed or emotionally confused, has hidden psychic abilities, actually can experience emotional entrapment

moon in 11H will bring an emotional need to have many friends, and be involved in group activities, a more impersonal placement than 1H and 12H as it focuses on getting along with others and expressing ideals - also this person will have a good job as 11H is house of gains and they will do well financially

all of this, of course, is dependent on equal house system, and on the signs and aspects that are not mentioned here

Good luck figuring it out.
