Hello

I've been studying astrology for the past three years. Even though I'm always learning something new, it is still confusing the hell out of me!

Any tips that anyone can offer? I want to be a astrologer as soon as I master the art of astrology.

My biggest problem is how the degrees work in the charts :/

Thanks!

I've only been studying for a year and a half and I think I have a pretty good grasp on things.

1 - With houses and planets, remember to use key words.

2 - the best way I've ever heard the understanding of astrology described as was "it's like a play, the planets and how they interact with each other are the actors, the signs are the setting/ costumes and the houses are the stage". That really helped me to grasp things much better. (I also devote way to much time to studying astrology as well).

3 - study excessively!!! The Internet is your best friend if you don't want to shell out money but you need to be discriminate, some explanations aren't going to match up with others so use your best judgement. To really get anywhere you'll need to invest in books (if you need some recommendations let me know!), amazon has tons of astrology books and most are extremely cheap.

4 - what worked really well for me and what I started out with doing was following a blog written by an astrologer. Her blog is elsaelsa.com. I highly recommend her.

5 - experiment with different house systems. There's quite a few and you have to find what works best for you.

If I think of anything else to add I'll add it!

Now, what exactly is it that you're confused about with degrees?

Thanks for the tips! I'll check on it asap! Well I was wondering how does the degree influence the chart? mainly the natal.

for example, my scorpio sun is 22 degrees.

Technically the degree in any chart shows what house the planet falls in depending on the house system you use.
If you're using whole sign as the house system then it won't really matter because it starts each house off at 0 degrees.
When a planet is at an extremely early degree them often times it means it's the beginning of that planets influences or the "start of something new". Don't know how true that is though, it's just what I've read.

There are also critical degrees too, for example there's a certain degree that's dangerous or violent from what I've heard. You can find out more by googling the keywords "critical degrees in astrology".

Degrees are a part of sabian symbols. Which are basically descriptions of that degree. An example would be the 9th degree of Scorpio. The sabian symbol for that is a dentist hard at work.

Let me know if this helps, I hope it does.

I have some simple tips. Get it from the head to the heart. The head will make you a technician. You need to be a technician but you must go beyond that if you are going to be really good imo

Start by studying funny books like Sex in the Zodiac etc

Learn to get behind the eyes of each sign.

Do the same with the planets

Ask people all the time about their charts

Try to do as many as you can.

It is the same as learning a language.

That is my opinion, Friend

Oh okay. That makes more sense now. Does it matter when you are studying western astrology?

Yes, degrees matter. Numbers are important. This is why there is a whole discipline of Numerology. It is all based on sacred geometry.

Astrology shows patterns. Get to know the patterns and astrological principles first, as suggested above. Then fine tune with degrees and Sabian Symbols. Finally, refine all chart readings with asteroids. When you are ready for asteroids you can enroll in IQ's Mentored Astrology Course to learn how to analyze your own chart.

Your own chart is the best course of study. F

The tighter the degrees, the stronger its manifestation. Thought there are times I consider slightly wider degrees if they are not out of sign aspects and if they are part of a configuration. But even if the degrees are too wide, there is still compatibility or conflict for two elements being in compatible or incompatible signs.

As for other tips... Try to see the chart houses and signs as a complete journey, starting from Aries and 1st house and ending in Pisces and 12th house. In each sign and house we have lessons to learn, and in the next sign and house we have new lessons, with the previous sign and house lessons incorporated. For example, in the first half of the chart, we learn about ourselves, while the other half is about others. In the 7th house we realize the existence of others and see ourselves through them, and learn to partner with them, then we learn deeper intimacy and real meaning of the deeper partnership, as well as sex, and facing death, shared resources, and legacy. Then it is after going through the darkness and not clinging to control that we can reach the higher level of the 9th house and Sag, where we embrace higher beliefs and philosophies. Then after packing ourselves with greater wisdom that we can become socially responsible and influential. On the other hand, without learning the previous lessons, we might not be ready. Social responsibility of the 10th house without beliefs and morality is a disaster; beliefs and morality without having felt and gone through deeper meanings of life and death of the 8th house might be empty and lack of spirituality; and so on.

In the end, to learn about astrology we need to feel the meanings. We need to learn not only by logic, but through intuitive feel too, and combine both. Take the symbolism of Chiron for example, which is of Saturn/Uranus. As well as the sign of Aquarius, which has Uranus as its ruler and Saturn as its traditional ruler (Aquarius is also the sign of astrology). Uranus is intuitive and inspiration, creativity, the right side of brain. Then Saturn is the structure, discipline. We need both in order to reach real knowledge.

So when looking at charts, try to to feel the symbolism intuitively, as a whole as well as the aspects themselves.

Also, taking into account rulers of the houses can help. For example, ruler of AC along with the Sun can show the main focus of the person in the area of life the house represents. Aspects between rulers can show how the themes of these houses gets along.

There is just lots of things, so much to talk about! And even with almost a decade of interest in astrology, I still have so much to learn and feel surprised and inspired. So take your time to learn, feel the symbolism. Try to first understand your own chart, which is the first step to understand and feel the symbolism, since we have most affinity with our own chart.

Also, go into the Personal Readings Forum and just jump in and do charts. If you can only talk about Sun signs, do that.

Talk and talk about charts and do them and do them.

It will take a bit of time until it makes sense but one must almost show that one has earned this tremendous knowledge.

It does not come easy but it is worth every minute and every bit of sweat you put into it, imo
