I read a lot about things being "afflicted". But I don't exactly understand what that means.

Interpretations will say for example lots of good thing then put a caveat "unless planet/house, etc is heavily afflicted".

Could someone explain this is simple terms?

Many hard aspects such as squares and oppositions. In some cases, it could be a conjunction such as Neptune con the Sun which to me would be afflicted but others may not agree.

LOL. Ok. I have Sun con Nept and I don't think it's "afflicted". Heehee.

But is this only related to having squares and oppositions? does it mean more than one of these? What about being in the "wrong" sign or house? etc? Are all these "afflicted" or is it just the aspects?

And basically my last question: So seeing your example of an "afflicted" aspect, is this all just subjective?

Thank aA as always for your reply.

A lot of times when you receive a Report, or you read a book, it will tell you happy things about a certain area.

Sometimes it's the Fifth House, it will say romance, entertainment, etc.

Okay, you have things going on in that department.

They can be good or bad, and it sometimes does confuse, it doesn't always ring true, because the area might have difficult things happening to it at the time.

When there are difficult Aspects going on, they say it is afflicted.

It can vary in scope, and all things work together to create results, so you can never just say black or white, they all merge to a gray in one way or another.

Some days are just more gray that others, ha.

I think people focus too much on the bad manifestations, which makes me sad really as many of my so "bad/challenging" aspects if don't feel are bad at all.

One thing I do find difficult for example is Mars in Libra in the 12. It makes me sometimes totally unable to make a decision.

So relating this back to my question: Mars is in detriment in Libra but I only have two sextiles and conjunct Asc. Is this considered afflicted? or not because there is no square/opposition?

Thanks to you both for helping me understand.

No, it's not afflicted. It has a Trine to the North Node and a Sextile to the Moon/Mercury.

That's a Boomerang, the two that Trine tend to work through the one amidst.

Mars isn't the happiest of campers in Libra, but some say the Node is Exalted in Aquarius.

Mercury is not the happiest is Sag, but you know, it is positively Aspected, and Conjunct the Moon.

So, you know, everything works together to make you what you are.

Unique.
