I have Mercury in Aries, so I tend to have foot in mouth disease meaning I say things without thinking and then regret it. I have always been this way. It's very common in my love life since I have Venus in Aries as well. I'm forward and too brash in my love life and am apt to get mad and say things I don't mean if a guy does something I dislike. I want to dtop this. Most of my chart is earth and water (I have an earth & water trine as well), so my personality is mostly kind and reserved, but sometimes I can be mean and regreet it.

what energy curbs others? Saturn.
So look to the midpoint of Mercury and Saturn.
So that blending point of those 2 energies is your key. If there is nothing there directly, then are there any aspects to it and what.
The what may then represent a key(energy) that helps to get a handle on Mercury in Aries.
If there are no aspects to it then like anything else conscious effort. Noticing when you have these loose lipped moments, noting what precedes them and making a conscious effort to deal with it differently.
As well when a planet transits directly at the midpoint of the pair or by aspect you can choose/develop some sort of mental exercise for self control. One person benefits
from strategy games another from Beethoven or ocean waves and meditation.
Also look at transits every time you loose it with someone and again reflect on another way you might have dealt with that energy in yourself.
Someone might choose not to be in a specific environment (if possible) if they know when they are prone to go off.
Someone might just chant aum, aum, quietly to themselves for a few until a urge to fly off the handle passes.
You exercise a muscle to make it stronger,
a brain to make it work better, you need to find your specific exercise for controlling a reflex.
just my half cent

My Mercury/Saturn midpoint is 11 Pisces 34 and Neptune is currently transiting at 8 Pisces 10 so I suppose it is almost at conjunction with my natal Mercury/Saturn midpoint making my communication more likely to be confused and clouded right now. Oh no >.<

Tell me if you find the cure...

Combine a Gemini stellium with Moon/Pluto in Scorpio. I can be verbally nasty and I know it. Sure I regret some of it latter but it's like I really have to throw stuff in people's faces.

I had an Aries friend she was very impulsive on these matters. You really need to count to three before saying certain stuff. You have to try to channel that mental energy somewhere else...

If it makes you feel any better, I think things through very thoroughly before speaking, and I still end up saying stupid things lmao.

I have Mercury in Cap, but my Sag Rising likes to joke around, and my Mars in Gemini can come up w/ really interesting, "colorful" words...

I don't know. My sun is in Taurus and I have a 6th house Sag with no planets in it. I'm not a firey person.

Yes mercury in Sag tends to communicate their thoughts out loud, and they are mutable, all over the place. But they tend to be hard to follow, or can become very preachy.

Aries is Cardinal, and impulsive. They want to be at the head (butt heads) , very argumentative. So Mercury here would speak first, think later. And perhaps urge others into action or new ways of thinking. Almost in a childlike way, so forgiving and easy to forgive. It should only be a problem if you are dealing with another Cardinal sign or Cardinal Mercury sign. Look toward the forgiving nature of your thinking and your speech and others will reflect that back at you. Don't be so hard on yourself, learn from your impulsive remarks and then forget about what you said. Plus understand the end result of leading others through your words. Then maybe you can think up other ways to communicate the same message.
