How do you draw & read a chart?

What tools and books do you need?
How long does it take?

I need to learn how to read natals and synastry, too. I believe at one time I knew at least what the colors mean.. Red is square and blue is trine? Or is the other way around? Breaks in a line? If someone would post a .. guide that'd be awesome.

This video is 17 minutes long and does a good job at covering the basics of how to create and read a chart: http://youtu.be/zSSbX5cmRqc

Btw red lines are hard aspects (squares, oppositions, conjunctions ) and blue lines soft aspects (trines, sextiles).

There's not enough step by step detailed tutorial online on the logistics of chart reading. I recommend Stephen Arroyo's books. Stephen Arroyo's Chart Interpretation Handbook is really self-explanatory and covers the basics.

Getting familiar with the glyphs and getting used to the natal chart with it's degrees and house cusps was the first step for me
