I've joined a lot of astrology groups recently and I noticed there was this one astrologer who seemed to jump on everyone who would make a comment about their personality reflecting from their ascendant and say ascenfant does not affect personality it only affects appearance.so I wanted to open the topic up for debate. At least I feel like the way I project myself to the world is a part of Who I am - my personality. and when I look at my friends rising signs, I see it in them too. what do you guys say? IP: Logged |

Ascendant is self isn't it? As for appearance, that is silly. I don't really see how it could predict your PHYSICAL FEATURES. Your style and the way you like your clothes -- sure, but your genes?

I once took an online personality test that had "Aries" as the result.I laughed and said that that cannot be. Since at the time, I was only aware of my Sun sign and Moon. So i dismissed the test as "bogus" Years later i hear of "Rising sign". Linda Goodman did mention it in her writings but I could never figure out what she was talking about. But in any event, after I got more clued up on the subject, turns out my Asc is Aries. Was the test right all along and i didn't know it? Because I don't have Aries anywhere else in my chart. It made me think. The rising sign is a part of the personality. Well at least in my case. IP: Logged |

I think the Midheaven reflects our personality more than our Ascendant. Have you ever noticed that a Capricorn rising with Scorpio midheaven does not act out their life in the same way as the Capricorn rising with a Libra or Virgo Midheaven? I think this because the Midheaven is not only our "career" it is our life's destiny or goal, and don't our goals and dreams (or lack thereof) often shape our personality more than others? In another example, I know Gemini risings are often stereotyped as scatterbrained, fidgety, and overall very childlike but in my opinion this is only true for those Gemini risings with Pisces midheaven. I have seen Gemini risings with Aquarius MC, Capricorn MC, and even an Aries MC who are all pretty stable, very level-headed, a bit more aggressive with their goals, and pretty much knew what they wanted out of life from the get-go. They didnt have the same frustratingly scatterbrained personality of their Pisces MC Gemini risings people. I think the Ascendant and Descendant are more of the masks of our physical appearance and how we use them in daily life and in social interactions whereas the Imum Coeli and the Midheaven describe how our personalities play out those physical appearances/how they reflect into those physical appearances. Because, after all, we need a certain mindset (certain personality) for a certain career (MC) and home-life (IC) dont we? That's just how I've seen it. IP: Logged |

I do think the ascendant plays into our physical appearance quite often. For example; I've noticed Scorpios have gummy teeth and smiles, Taurus often have very rounded and oblong jaws, Capricorn typically has very well-structured jaw that is small and compact but still meaty, Cancers and Libras often have very rounded skulls and big, soft and squishy heads/faces, Geminis often have a widow's peak hairline and a very noticeable shine in their eyes, even when the light hasn't hit them, Geminis also tend to have very big heads but small body frames with stubby fingers, Aries typically has very long and rounded foreheads with beady but soft eyes, Sagittarius have very long and well-defined pretty teeth like a horse, their legs are often curved at the calves (also like a horse) and they have very noticeably pointy nose tips with slim nostrils. ETC. I think there is definitely a correlation in the physical appearance and the Ascendant! In fact, I often use Vedic astrology nakshatras to help and figure our a person's ascendant, bc ppl of the same nakshatras quite often look alike. Surprisingly, it has worked on several occasions

I think it definitely has an effect on the appearance. I’m confused as to how else it manisfests as the “self”I had the birthday for someone who doesn’t have any Aquarius anywhere (or any air either except Pluto) but I guessed he might have Uranus near the ascendant. I was wrong as his ascendant was Aquarius (my second guess that I dismissed). Couldn’t say why I thought that except he looked like an Aquarian to me (unusual physical appearance).. As for myself, I have Jupiter conjunct ascendant and I have very dense bones confirmed by my fitness test. I weigh a lot more than I look IP: Logged |
