Absolutely But it is interesting to check more, like correlations between house/sign: for example: your Sun in 3rd, his Moon in Gem etc.

You can discover very interesting things.

And it's fun to look for these similar pairs.

For example,

my Sun in Virgo his Sun in the 6th
my Sun in the 8th his Scorpio Moon

are simple pairs

or

my Moon/Venus in the 7th, his Sun conjunct DSC - would have a similar energy, focused on partners

but there are also some more subtle pairs. For example:

he has Pluto in the 1st, I have Lilith in the 1st - a similar energy (I don't think I've mentioned this one lol)

or, more complex:

he has 8th cusp in Aries, so the 1st is his secondary 8th, plus he has Pluto - Mars higher vibration - in 1st and Valentine/Lust on ASC, so this tells us his 1st house, his ASC energy is very 8th house-ish. This could go well with the fact that I'm an 8th houser.

There's one way of doing it, AK.
Personally, I prefer taking it sign by sign, and their house correspondents which means:

first you look at Aries and the 1st house for each person (also at a prominent Mars, if there is)

then Taurus and the 2nd house etc.

In the end, you should be able to see what zodiacal energy you share and also, what zodiacal energy is prominent in your synastry.

Some zodiac signs are not connected through similarity, but through compatibility (compatible signs), which will take us to the second part of the analysis.

But first, determine the degree of similarity.
