1. Natally, do grand trines only involve Planets ? If a person only has asteroids, the nodes, or the Ascendant in one of the three houses, would they still have a natal grand trine ?

2. Similarly, would a grand trine in synastry only have to involve Planets ? Or would asteroids, the nodes, and the Ascendant also count as completing a grand trine in synastry ?

3. Do the grand trine orbs have to be tight ? Or do wide orbs (10+ degrees) also count ?

4. What is the significance of these trines in each element in synastry ?

Thanks !

We also look at GTs involving asteroids, once we get into detail with the natal or the synastry. usually, we use tighter orbs for asteroids. Recently, however, as a result of real life charts, I've started to use up to 5 deg. for major asteroids. For planets, the usual orbs: for a good trine, around 5, sometimes more, on a case by case basis. I don't consider orbs +10 unless there's some unusual stellium with planets in between (in this case, two planets 11-12 degrees apart may act in sync if there is a string of astrobodies between them or a midpoint)

Fire GT - action passion intensification creativity enhances lust and enthusiasm for life
Water GT - emotions love emotional harmony romance creativity fertility enhances emotional exchanges and feelings
Earth GT - stability practicality work doing things together sensuality enhances all that
Air GT - communication mental connection intellectual/mental idealism ideas social interactions enhances all that

All GT's have as a downside complacence and being stuck in a rut.

The Asc, MC, and Nodes are valid but I would accept only tight orbs for them. Others may disagree, but if a single planet trine to Asc can be interpereted, then the larger geometric shapes apply as well.
