Substitute? No. Not in my experience. Carry similar elements? Yes. I'd keep the orbs VERY tight, though.

Technically, CUPIDO, VALENTINE, and EROS are all 'Cupid' or 'Eros'. Astrologically, however, it seems EROS and PSYCHE are the pairing.

Well, Eros/Psyche possibly seems to be THE astrological pairing, because it is what people expect to find and look out for.

Tracing it back to the original myth, psyche was actually never paired with Eros, but with Cupido or Amor. (in the original latin text he is always referred to as Cupido)

EDIT:
i do tend to look out for Psyche-Eros myself though, but I suppose that is more because of most astrologers going on about Eros and it is usually the first pairing you stumble across.

Oh and I do not view Valentine as Eros, though it does imply that infatuated romantic feeling.

I once did a mini check up on these

Since Eros/Amor/Cupido are all three mentioned as counterpart to Psyche (though I think we agreed that Eros was the strongest), I was investigating 12 synastries for aspects of Psyche to Eros, Amor, Cupido (synastry, composite, Davison).

The results were unexpected:

In all case there is an emphasis on the challenging aspects:

EROS-PSYCHE
synastry:
total: 4 couples had that
square: 2
opposition: 2

composite:
total: 1
square: 1

Davison:
total: 2
square: 1
opposition: 1

PSYCHE-CUPIDO

synastry:
total: 6
opposition: 2
quinkunx: 2
conjunction: 1
trine: 1

composite:
total: 1
quinkunx: 1

Davison:
total: 4
conjunction: 2
trine: 1
quinkunx: 1

AMOR/PSYCHE:
synastry:
total: 4
square: 2
trine: 1
opposition: 1

composite: 5
square: 4
quinkunx: 1

Davison: 2
conjunction: 1
sextile: 1

There were only 3 couples who did NOT have at least one synastric aspect of Psyche to Eros, Cupido or Amor.

These were
Johnny Cash- June Carter
Richard Burton - Liz Taylor
Pierre Curie - Marie Curie

Cash-Carter had:
Psyche-Amor-square in composite
Psyche-Cupido-conjunction in Davison

Burton-Taylor had:
Eros-Psyche-square in Davison

the Curies had:
Psyche-Amor-quinkunx in Composite
Psyche-Cupido-quinkunx in Davison

What surprised me so immensely were three occurences:

1. the frequence of Cupido/Psyche-aspects that seemed independent from Eros/Psyche in these synastries:
Diego Rivera - Frida Kahlo (opposition)
Laurence OLivier- Vivien leigh (quinkunx)
Paul and Linda Mc Cartney (conjunction)
Paul Newman - Joanne Woodward (opposition)

In the case of
Rivera-Kahlo
Mc Cartneys
Newman-Woodward

this was NOT balanced by an Eros/Psyche-aspect in either composite or DAvision, which brings me to the conclusion that they were operating independently

2. the emphasis on challenging aspects like square and opposition with a few conjunctions thrown in

3. the frequency of these aspects in DAvison compared to composite, which were pretty equal in number:

composite: 7 aspects (5 were Psyche/Amor)
Davison: 8 aspects (4 were Psyche/Cupido)

Great mini-research, Ceri

I agree with you; I believe whilst Eros Cupido Amor are slightly different facets of the same god of love (astrologically), the connection to Psyche is equally valid as a mythological pair.

I seem to have loved you in numberless forms...

Are these CUPIDO (763) or the CUPIDO TNP (h40)? I was speaking specifically of the TNP.

Also, in my research, ONLY EROS/PSYCHE is one of the markers for Twin Flames. PSYCHE with AMOR, CUPIDO, and VALENTINE, are not linked as EROS is -- in this regard.

I was talking about the asteroid Cupido. I feel the hypothetical one might be quite different.

Anyway, what where the parameters of your research?
