NESSUS isn't necessarily abusive. But there can certainly be tension. NESSUS can be obsessive about its pet subjects, areas of expertise, or, in synastry, particular individuals to whom it's devoted. MARS is naturally competitive and driven to win. Anything.
My mother's MARS is conjunct my NESSUS, 2°. Our 'rivalry' since my thirties is somewhat ... 'legendary' amongst the family. We won't get into screaming matches, or even 'one-up-a-thon's. But, as my father sometimes says, 'boy, neither of you will budge.' He's right. We won't. She wants to win, and I'm just as hell-bent on relaying those areas in which I have expertise. And so we can go 'round and 'round ... and 'round.
In a sexual relationship, I'd imagine it'd be rather spicy.
My NESSUS trines my husband's MARS (2°). We'll get into the same 'contests' but he's more willing to settle the difference via sexual energy. It works out.
I have my NESSUS square my partner's MARS (2°). He's very polite about his competitive spirit, and rarely challenges my expertise without very sound basis. We've not channelled it into sex, but I suppose were I the conniving and manipulative sort, I could redirect it that way. Guess I'll never know.
