If I see one more thread about Nessus causing abuse and asking whether one should avoid a relationship with someone whose Nessus aspects one's chart, I think I will scream.

First of all, what do you mean by "abuse?"
That word can mean many things from verbal comments to rape to murder.

Second, the myth of Nessus and Dejanira is not that simple or straightforward. There isn't even agreement in some of the versions on whether he tried to rape Dejanira, or it was consensual, or he kidnapped her. Mainly, the story is about putting your own needs and desires first without regard to the consequences. Yes; Nessus is a dark figure, but he also dies. And he is a ferry man, so could be involved in transformative experiences, not just "abuse."

Third, every planet/asteroid has both negative and positive qualities. Even Venus did some nasty things to Psyche, and who ever talks about Venus as being scary or abusive?

Fourth, EVERYONE has Nessus somewhere in their chart, just as EVERYONE has the potential to "abuse." It's human nature.

Fifth, even if one believes a tiny rock hurtling through space controls our destiny to the point that we have no free will, you'd have to look at the entire natal chart of both people and the synastry (and probably even the composite) to get a sense of what the impact might be. The signs and houses involved are going to have an impact too.

While keywords can be helpful for remembering possible interpretations, always boiling a planet/asteroid down to one and only one keyword is irresponsible and dangerous, in my opinion. And just plain wrong.

I would never enter a relationship, or refuse to enter a relationship, on the basis of an astrological chart, especially one aspect in that chart. And especially one aspect involving an asteroid. Instead, I use astrology to help me more deeply understand the dynamics of an existing relationship.

I have my Nessus conjunct his Amor, and his Nessus conjunct my Cupido, both exact, in synastry with my current partner. I think of these aspects as kind of a double whammy. We have been together almost 2 years (or 20+ years, depending upon how you want to look at it) and there has never been anything remotely abusive about the relationship. There have been a few instances where I said things without thinking (putting my own desires first) that hurt my partner's feelings (and vice versa). I don't see Nessus as having all the power, with Amor/Cupido (or in your case, the Moon) having none, so I'd also like to think it can indicate a potentiality for learning to love (or accept) even the darkest side of the other's nature.
