Solar return starts on the day of your birth each year.
For me, my birthday is late in the year so my 2015 SR starts at nearly the end of the year 2015. I'm going to in my 2014 SR until nov 27 of 2015

But what if your Solar Return is not as active in their natal chart....does that mean they will be trying to get you to be part of their life, while your focus is on other things?

I guess maybe you'd need to look at progressions to see if you are going to become part of their life and potentially look at both ppls SR for the following year to see if you come together??

Any opinions or experiences with using these charts to watch for developing relationship and how they play out?

I have a couple experiences I will share with how they played in my life if you want to look at solar return synastry for years that a relationship was blossoming or ending and give the aspects. Where they aspecting or separating and what where the aspects?

The squares don't necessarily mean you don't get together it just means it's more of a struggle and delays happened.

The conjunctions can show immediately coming together but they can also show such extremes of emotions that if someone isn't ready for, feel scared and our of fear backs off. While the other persues.

Since Mr Sag and me share a one degree Sun-Sun-conjunction, our Solar returns look quite similiar, except for the Moon and angls of course. Though funny enough our Solar ASC`s are close to each other as well, thoughw e do not have an ASC-ASC-alignment natally.

Here are some aspects between solar and natal charts of my fatal romance with a certain guy (happened some 6 years ago):

his solar return asc. and venus conjunct my natal mars (and his natal venus at the same time);
his solar return moon conjunct my natal IC
his solar return mars conjunct my natal sun/uranus (and his natal mars-asc. in scorpio - ours was a highly sexual union which started and ended suddenly).
his solar return eros conjunct my natal venus
his solar return IC conjunct my natal sun/uranus
his solar return jupiter conjunct my natal desc.

all aspects are between 2-3 degrees orb.

I have checked the upcoming solar return charts of mine and another person i am interested in currently and we have:
his solar return mars in scorpio conjunct my natal sun/uranus and his natal venus-mars midpoint, too.
his solar return juno and amor conjunct my natal sun-moon midpoint
my solar return venus conjunct his natal mercury (we have this conjunction in natal charts, too)
My solar return eros conjunct his natal sun (hmmm)
also, we have moon opposite mars in solar return charts (in natal we have moon-mars conjunction)
unfortunately, i don't know his exact birth time, so I cannot check the angle connections
and we will both have venus returns in our respective solar return charts.

Similar patterns can be found also in progressed charts. Actually, i have become fond of this method recently and it does show connection clearly between 2 people.
