No doubt this is due to recording my dialogue for the second episode of Le Fantôme: The Dramatic Audio Serial for much of the day. But it's got me contemplating the complexities of the Christine Daaé / Erik ('the Phantom') relationship from Leroux's 'Le Fantôme de L'Opera', from which it's adapted. Naturally, there's nothing quite like a role to prompt an actor to more deeply study a character, relationship, or story. And it's rather important for me to really understand the dynamics of theirs. One such line, from the original story which was kept intact, is 'tonight, oh, I gave you my soul, and I am dead.' Wow, Christine. A bit high drama there! But if we contemplate it more, we're obviously delving into a powerful bond -- one with supernatural components, and deep obsession. I'm feeling PLUTO is almost blatant in its obvious presence; but what else? It's clearly a spin on the Hades / Persephone myth, with elements of Stoker ('Dracula'), so then we'd have to involve PERSEPHONE (399) and PROSERPINA (26) -- along with HADES (h41), as I've found it to be very useful. Any VALENTINE? We'd expect some 8H involvement, too. Maybe some explosive Midpoints: MARS. And VENUS would be here too, no doubt. Perhaps SATURN, for its need for structure, and tendency towards domineering control. Of course, we've got PLUTO for that as well. So then. Your thoughts. Let's discuss. IP: Logged |

well I think midpoints are critical, at least they seem to be for me. but these midpoints all include pluto: moon-pluto mars-pluto and I wondered about jupiter-pluto, since jupiter expands what it touches How about Lilith? Eros?

I was just thinking about them/this! I recently bought the two-disc Broadway Phantom recording and was thinking about LL and I am not surprised to see this... heehee ♡♡♡!!Ya, such blatant Pluto action in this story, in a quite pure, extreme manifestation. It's striking for its purity of motive and the focus, as well as the scope of the story is resoundingly familiar for me, and probably for many people who are at all Plutonian or who have had very passionate Plutonian relationships... From what I've heard here about this aspect, I was listening and guessing Christine and Eric have perhaps a 0°00 Venus Pluto square--or conjunction--what do you think? I would say the story takes some of the Persephone theme on, if we can agree that although Christine's descent to the underworld is not cyclical, a part of her will certainly always be returning and bound there in spirit... I haven't read the book but I certainly know the gist of the story, having worked on the Broadway show when it was touring through my hometown, and watched it countless times listened to it growing up as well... Oh, VALENTINE, for sure, on both sides I'd say Valentine is activated. She loves him deeply, protects him too-- Saturn is obviously not manifesting in a healthy dimension here, and I would say his Saturn may be involved with her ascendant, and her midheaven would be big time activated in this synastry, given her being in the spotlight with him in the shadows, but larger than life (definitely Jupiter is at play!).. His IC-MC axis is probably rife with action, given the interplay between his shadow self, deep soul-place, and his! reputation...

How funny!Just had THIS recommendation for me on my you tube list. lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJGHRNn2cSo (the song is actually from "Dracula" *sighs* I love Wildhorn`s musical scores ) But actually THAT was the song that came to my mind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7ZJyWsfUJo&list=RDV7ZJyWsfUJo#t=5
esp. from 4:20 "Voices in my nights will cry Christine And ev'ry drop of rain that falls Will be Christine You were the only one My only chance at happiness My golden leaf of autumn, my Christine.
Look within this heart and see Christine The very constant soul and music of Christine Behind this mortal mask This terror of a face conceals The gesture and the grace of you, Christine. No one else must ever have Christine If not for me, you'll be for no one else, Christine If I am guilty I'll be guilty of That innocence whose name is love And never, no you'll never be For anyone except for me I curse you when I love you And I love you And I curse you My Christine!!" I've been wondering if 2nd house overlays could show possessiveness since it's the house of Taurus. IP: Logged |

Atropos for sure, I have a sun-atropos double whammy with ex, a conjunction from his and a trine from mine, and our composite atropos conjuncts exact regulus. I feel atropos is just as powerful as pluto or more, its intense and all or nothing, it brings you things and then takes it, it transforms too and can be very obsessive bc it draws you to this person so much, it wants you to pay attention, its like screaming "This person is important don't ignore them."I gave him my soul and I will do it over and over again. We have persephone opposite pluto exact in synastry, his pluto conjuncts his venus and juno. My proserpina conjuncts my chart ruler jupiter-uranus and his eros. Composite Valentine conjuncts our Composite Pluto-Mars-Sun-magion. With my aqua friend ex lover he also brought out of me that "I want to give you my soul" feling and his persephone-venus sextiles my Pluto. His atropos squares my venus and our time was off, I was married when we met but I felt us meeting was fated. My last crush we had composite Valentine conjunct atropos. In synastry my atropos conjuncts his sun-moon-mars. I feel atropos gives you that "I cant stop thinking about you, or I will never fully forget you" theme if Valentine is also strong in the synastry or composite.

The Phantom was one of my favorite stories growing up. I wrote my French term paper on the original novel and can sing the entire musical start to finish in both English and French, lol. The ending still makes me cry I don't know if this will take this thread off topic or not but, whatever you believe about the mechanisms of creativity, I think when analyzing the work it might be insightful to take a peek at the author. I found M. Leroux's natal chart, complete with TOB. http://www.astrotheme.com/astrology/Gaston_Leroux I bring this up because another story I loved very much growing up (and still do) is Wuthering Heights - another tale of dramatic love and obsession. I read once that Emily Bronte said that she identified with the character Heathcliff and saw much of herself in him. This struck me as pretty significant - He is an extreme, flawed, and tortured character who is deeply passionate and mysterious. Here's a look at her chart: http://www.astrotheme.com/astrology/Emily_Bront%C3%AB Now on to my personal theory on this. Perhaps this obsessive kind of love is more a manifestation of how the obsessor views himself. At least in the case of these two stories, we have the following: - Male is shunned or abandoned by his caregiver and beat down in some way by his adoptive caregiver. He is ostracized and made to feel like he is worthless in spite of being truly talented - Some kind of catalyst forces him to break away from the abuse and make something of himself - Male falls for female and (arguably in both cases) experiences mutual love and affection - The odds are highly stacked against him in terms of his ability to court and "properly" woo the female so a kind of fantasy is created and he woos here there - There is a rival for the female's affection I would argue that the affection and admiration were already present for both leading men. At least initially, the men each had the opportunity to have the love and happiness they wanted but had been denied previously. Unfortunately I think the biggest motivator was fear - they both feared they were unworthy (because in spite of great success, that's all they were ever told) and therefore could never hope to have the happiness they wanted. I think this stems from the realm of the water element and specifically, Cancer, honestly. All signs are capable of control/manipulation in some way, but specifically water signs seem to do this out of the fear of abandonment or isolation. Therefore, for this particular kind of obsession I'm thinking that first the obsessor would likely have significant water placements (especially Cancer), tense or enhancing aspects to Pluto, Neptune or the Moon, and significant fixed placements. If another person came along and activated any of these placements, I think it could potentially turn in to a dramatic obsession. Pluto aspects, 8th and 2nd house overlays, Moon and IC aspects might be particularly sensitive. Just throwing out ideas IP: Logged |

Very good, FmVenus! Most points describe me squarely. Bloody awful marriage and fears resulting thereof, Scorpio Sun, fixed along with Leo Asc and Aqua Moon, Sun conjunct Neptune. And then I got involved with someone obsessively. Re Pluto - This is in the 1st house but does not form challenging aspects like my Uranus square Sun, and Saturn square Moon.

How on earth had I not studied Leroux's own chart? With his undeniable impact upon my life? As if it wasn't obvious enough, with my boyfriend's casting!SUN conjunct PLUTO (1°) on my CHIRON, and his TISIPHONE/HADES/CUPIDO/BREIDE stellium. Somehow, there's Leroux -- right there -- profoundly activating it. But there's more! His ASC conjunct my SCHRODINGER/NESSUS, and my boyfriend's DEJANIRA/MERCURY ... his MOON conjunct my DESTINN/EROS/LEWISCARROLL and KARMA, and my boyfriend's SNODE. And, Leroux's CHIRON is exactly conjunct my boyfriend's. Wait for it ... 0°00! This is powerful. There's something here; something really, really here. My casting came as a complete surprise to me; my boyfriend was almost given the role of Erik, but he lacks the proficiency in the tenor tessitura (he's a basso profundo). But they were smitten with his spectacular voice, they gave him Leroux, who narrates the story. Our adaptation is the story retold via the lens of Leroux, as if he were present as it happened. It's an intriguing concept. The producers still wish he'd been just a bit more proficient, and a bigger name, though. Which he takes as a tremendous compliment. He wasn't surprised like I was; I DO have a very unusual voice. I'm a dramatic coloratura soprano, but I don't have the darkness throughout my range. My light lyric register is eerily similar to Brightman, but I have more power and higher notes. I honestly can't say there's a soprano working similar to my tone and timbre. I think that might be why I was cast. It's very much the way that they suspect the 'actual' Christine -- actually Swedish soprano Christina Nilsson, might've sounded. So it's exciting. I was ecstatic. Still am! That got me undoubtedly thinking about their relationship, which ... brought me to create this thread! Heh. IP: Logged | |
