You must remember the nature of your relationship, it's about growth and bringing him up to be a mature, stable, solid man.
If you had all easy aspects you wouldn't inspire much growth in each other and he won't see you as his mentor or someone to respect and look to for guidance because your strong and will push him(even if he hates it as a child)
Your hard aspects will provide friction that gives you both drive to change and expand.
A mother/child relationship isn't going to be easy, the process is hard, challenging and a struggle. Raising anything from infancy into adulthood through living together and providing the appropriate amount of friction along with love to give him what he needs is essential but a very tough job!

I think what your seeing is the needs of your child being met through you. If he's hard headed your going to need those hard aspects between you to give you the drive to help him grow past negative behaviors even if he's stubbornly refusing to grow. You won't give up because you feel the stress to continue on to help him learn.

Only a conjunction gets 10 degrees in natal chart. In synastry you need to tighten these to no more than 7.

Opposition some say you give 10 degrees in natal chart, I think it's a bit wide I use 7 in natal and synastry.

A square/trine in natal 5-7orbs.
To me a square in synastry at 7degrees is still kind of wide!
Other tighter aspects will greatly affect that square and potentially make it not felt much at all.

If you click on the "Additional information PDF [?]" tab at the top of the chart it will open a new page that lists all the planets and their exact degrees. Then you can see if the orbs are within range to make an aspect.

Not everything, of every aspect plays out. I'm speaking from personal experiences.
I think of an aspect like, I hand you the tools to build something (trine, etc), or fail to give you the tools, or give the incorrect tools, (square) or tools that are stuck together (conjunction).

Now what are you going to build with them, and how? It's up to you what you do with what you're given.
In large part.
I've overcome difficult aspects in my natal. Or at least made very significant progress.
I don't know if I made any sense. I'm strange. LOL
