No worries! When we assign everything a mythology and give it a symbol, we can forget that some of them are merely calculated points, or purely hypothetical. Oddly enough, that may not minimise its nature -- it just means there are certain rules, to avoid false positives.
Ceri really brought the concept home for me when she explained the experience of PRIAPUS being when the Moon is closest to the Earth -- big, engulfing, looming large in the sky, making its presence very, very much known. Indeed, this is our experience of PRIAPUS -- the Moon's perigee -- as the lustful god who craves union powerfully and to sexually merge to achieve it. When the Moon is so near to the Earth, hanging low in the sky, taking up much more space than usual, we can't help but notice it. I've even gotten the sense that it is seeking to 'be closer' to the Earth; that it's almost lonesome and longing. (Terribly anthropomorphising, I know, but in the sense of PRIAPUS, it does make sense.)
BLACK MOON LILITH is a completely different animal. The lunar apogee, she's where the Moon is furthest from the Earth, at a great distance, high in the sky, almost a dot, way up above. It's almost as if you can imagine its lunar arms stretched forth, erecting an invisible 'keep out' wall. 'Stay away!' it says, which is the exact opposite of its 'feelings' when in Priapic mode (perigee).
I kind of buy it, actually.
The Moon has a mythic, variable, even volatile influence, with sometimes rapidly cycling 'emotions', a connexion to the ebb and flow of the tides, as well as the female menstrual cycle. It's all about consistent cyclic behaviour, which can be almost polar in nature.
So why wouldn't the BLACK MOON, in relationship to Lilith, be the embodiment of the demonised 'first feminist', who won't dare let anyone in, until she can be assured that they're on equal footing and respect her? Ergo, why wouldn't PRIAPUS be the representation of the Moon's longing to 'merge' with the Earth, and its human inhabitants? Almost as if it's been through the Lilith phase, and now it's ready to rejoin and reconnect again?
I sometimes wonder if we tracked out own BML/PRIAPUS aspects, and their cycles, we might find our partner's (and our own) behaviour far less mystifying -- almost even natural, and even cyclic.
I think the reason why we need to keep the orbs very tight is the fact that the actual apogee or perigee is a lunar event -- just as anything. So, it makes sense that we'd really want to get it as close as possible, so as to visualise its 'effects'.
It's not really the 'Priapus Moon' if we're not able to envision looking into the sky and seeing the Moon looming large before us, right? Conversely, it's not really the 'Lilith Moon' if it's not got its 'arms' out in front, telling us to 'keep our distance'.
Just my thoughts, of course; extrapolations upon a very sound original idea.
