The 7th house of course, represents the spouse and the relationship, the unity with a significant other.

However, the 9th house is what makes you commit.
9th house is known to be the house of your dharma, your duty and purpose. It's what's sacred to you, what you are committed to.

The Navamsha chart is also derived from the 9th house, and this chart is checked to judge the married life of a person.

So could it be that 9th house overlays and strong aspects to the 9th house lord are important in Synastry?

I would appreciate it if anyone could take the time to check synastries of long-term married couples for this.

9th house is where the marriage becomes public and a part of the social circle you are in. This is why it`s checked, too, because it is representative how you fit into a larger social context around you (and probably how you derive a feeling of meaningfulness from your union that goes beyond the one on one togetherness)

in the 7th house you meet yuor spouse and decide to get married.
In the 8th house you are getting married and living married life on a day-to-day-level.
In the 9th house you show your marriage to the outer world.

For my parents.

My Dad`s ruler of 9th house is Venus, this very Venus is on 14 Aqua (conj. his Jupiter at 12 Aqua) conjunct my Mom`s 9th house cusp, though sitting in the 8th house technically, and being one leg of a Yod to her Uranus on 14 Cancer and her Mars at 14 Virgo.
Also squares her Mercury at 12 Scorpio.

The ruler of my Mom`s 9th house is Uranus, so her 9th house ruler is ALSO part of that synastric Yod.
And well her Uranus is conjunct her own ASC so we can see just how important it is.

I was wrong btw her Uranus is on 13 Cancer, and from there opposing my Dad`s ASC-ruler Mercury on 18 Cap (in her 7th house) and square his DESC-ruler Neptune on 17 Libra (in her 5th house).

Interestingly enough Mr Sag and me have a very strong 9th house emphasis. No clue what that really means though, other than an expansion of horizons maybe.

His NN, Mars-Jupiter-Amor and Lilith, Saturn-Vertex-DESC are all gathered up in my 9th house, and in the intercepted part

My Sun-Mercury, Neptune-NN are in his 9th house (and ASC is conjunct the cusp but from 8th house).

My 9th house rulers Sun and Mercury are IN his 9th house - lol, but conjunct his MC and his Sun-Moon, while at the same time square his Saturn-Vertex-DESC (making a STRONG 9th harmonic pattern btw our charts, involving both Suns - which seems interesting given the 9th house notion).

his 9th houes ruler is Jupiter, which falls IN my 9th house as well, but is opposite my Jupiter-Ceres and square his DESC/ IC/ 3rd house ruler Mercury on the cusp of HIS 9th house, and also square my Mars/ASC/Neptune/NN, while simultaneously being trine my Venus.

Yeah I`d think whatever it means, 9th house is quite emphasized.

Using sidereal and whole sign houses

Only his JUNO is in my 9th house (not sure the Vedic astrologers even use asteroids, probably not)

The ruler of my 9th house is Moon and it is in Dhanishta in my own 3rd house and in his 11th house.

In terms of Vedic aspects:
my Moon conjuncts his Venus (though it is only sign-conjunct - the distance is 21 degrees, but vedic uses whole sign aspects, right?) (and also sign-opposition Juno)
He`s got a Venus-Juno-opposition running along 11th-5th house in his natal (and falling into my 3rd-9th house axis).

In terms of western aspects my Moon trines his Pluto, which falls into my 11th house and his own 7th house.

-----------------------------------

Swapping our charts, there are several of my planets falling into HIS 9th house

Mars, ASC, Neptune, NN

those are conjunct his Mercury (the widest orb 4 degrees) and sign-conjunct his Neptune (trine his Ceres) and square his Mars-Jupiter-conjunction

my Mars aspects in his special 4th aspect his KETU in his 12th and my 4th house.

my Rahu in his 9th house (my 1st) aspects in a trine (sign-trine) his ASC in my 5th house.

his 9th house ruler is Mars (Scorpio at the cusp) falling into his own 6th house conjunct 1st and 10th house ruler Jupiter there: This Mars-Jupiter-conjunction falls into my 10th house

Interestingly this Mars-Jupiter-conjunction falls into Purva Phalguni, and I just read this "The Phalgunis are the "marriage mansions". Where the power of love and attraction start with Rohini , here it results in the settling down in marriage. Bhaga protects marital happiness and bestows family inheritance. Lord Shiva started his marriage precession under this star."
http://www.galacticcenter.org/main/nakshatras/the-27-nakshatras.html

Using the whole-sign-aspects this is also conjunct RAHU at the beginning of Leo, though in a different Nakshatra (Magha).

His Mars aspects in his 4th aspect his Mercury in his own 9th house, within just 1-2 degrees of orb - Mercury rules the 7th and 4th in his chart (I guess the man simply NEEDS to be married ).
(using outers as well, there is a 4th aspects only in signs to Neptune in 9th too, just his own natal aspect btw).

Jupiter as well as Rahu are in their 5th aspect (only signs) to Sun and Moon in 10th house. Not sure it counts for something but speaking about vedic, there is a mutual reception bewteen Sun in Sagittarius and Jupiter in Leo here. Sun rules the 6th house, Moon rules the 5th house - both are in the Nakshatra of MULA.
Mula seems a bit of a complicated Nashatra for marriage if we read this

"Nirriti means "calamity", and is the goddess of destruction who lives in the kingdom of the dead. Nirriti has the power to ruin, destroy and break things apart. It is sometimes called Alakshmi or denial of Lakshmi (prosperity). She is depicted as Kali the fierce goddess who wears a necklace of skulls and human heads dangle from her belt. Her wild dance destroys illusions; she helps us see reality, the disgusting and beautiful."

Anyway so how would I tie into this very intriguing picture of his. I find it intriguing at least.

his Mars-Jupiter-conjunction (ruler of his 9th and 1st house) is closely opposite my Jupiter (and Ceres) - all within 1 degree at most falling into his 12th house.
Jupiter rules my own 5th house and is in 4th house, hence his Mars-Jupiter occupies my 10th house.

Of course speaking of sign-conjunction my Jupiter also conjuncts his Ketu (not within orb though).

his Mars-Jupiter squares my Rahu in his 9th (and my 1st) - also close orb. And the Mars-Rahu-aspect is even true in vedic as it is a 4th aspect.
(in Western we would certainly count the trine of Mars to my Venus, but not in Vedic).

However, Jupiter, who is so closely associated with Mars in his chart, does have his 5th aspect to my Venus (in orb). Venus rules my 7th and 12th house and falls into my 2nd house. It also falls into HIS 10th house, sign conjunct his Sun-Moon-conjunction right there and still in the same Nakshatra as his Sun-Moon, in MULA (though the orb is for Western relations a tad wide: 7°32 to his Moon, 9°16 to his Sun, yet interesting they share the same Nakshatra and we obviously have a DW in sidereal between Moon-Venus, at least in terms of sign-basis)

Of course that Jupiter of his also has a 5th aspect (only sign basis) to my Sun-Mercury in his 10th house, and this one is closely conjoined with his Sun-Moon.

My Sun-Mercury-Venus, who are apparently triggered here, are all in my 2nd house and in MULA. (I am Kali personified? )

Sun rules my 10th, Venus rules my 7th and 12th, Mercury rules my 8th and 11th.

His Mars, the actual ruler of his 9th house, falling in my 10th and in terms of his "special aspects" beside the opposition to Jupiter he also makes:

- 4th aspects to
my Mars, ASC, Rahu, (Neptune) in HIS 9th house
(Mars rule my 1st and 6th) - those aspects are even in orb

All those Scorpio planets of mine are located in the Nakshatra of Anurada (Rahu literally on the last minute. lol)

I hope I did not confuse you too much now?

I also glimpsed at the Navamsa, and this is what we have there:

his ASC conjunct my Venus in my 9th house - Venus rules my 7th and my 12th ;

Moon is my 9th ruler and it fall into Leo in my 10th, sign-conjunct his Jupiter (but at the end of the sign). My Moon and his Jupiter falling into his 2nd house, Jupiter rules his 9th house.

So interestingly enough both 9th rulers in the Navamsa, my Moon and his Jupiter are sign-conjunct in Leo, in his 2nd and my 10th house.

his Jupiter also has his 9th aspect to my Mercury (only sign) and Sun (in orb, though barely) in Aries.

my Sun and Mercury rule my 10th (Sun), 8th and 11th and fall into my 6th house and his 10th house.

My own Jupiter (in Pisces) also falls into his 9th house - in my own Navamsa Jupiter rules 2nd and 5th house and falls into 5th house as well.

my Jupiter opposes his Mars as well (just like in D1 chart). With his Mars ruling his 10th and being in his 3rd and in my 11th.
and has a 5th aspect to his ASC in MY 9th house.
and a 9th aspect to his Mercury in my 1st (conj. my Rahu) in his 5th, Mercury rules his 12th and 3rd.
