I think those synastrical contacts mean much more than the "superficial" things you've mentioned. One can easily change their musical taste just as fast as the perfume they wear. Mine has changed plenty over the years!

How does he make you FEEL though? Do his intentions overall in life conflict with yours, or do you generally feel as though you're on the same page? Moon-Moon synastry speaks to emotional compatibility - you have an innate understanding of each's emotional nature. Venus-Venus synastry can mean you speak each other's "love language" and express love in a pleasing way to each other. It can also help with day-to-day decision making if you have similar values.

People with hard aspects between these planets are still fortunate enough to have that connection, however you may feel as though you don't always see eye-to-eye with them on a deeper level.

The other things you've mentioned ie. you both having Venus/Pluto in your natals has more to do with mirroring each other's energy even if those planets don't make contact with each other in synastry. So, his expression of Venus/Pluto energy will be similar to the way you express it, even if you don't bring this out in each other - i.e. he might be frustrated, you might be frustrated, but you're not necessarily frustrated towards each other...if that makes sense?
