I'm going to see a psychoanalyst. I haven't met him in person yet but I have an appointment in a couple of weeks. I really need to talk to someone who can meet/challenge/embrace/nurture my emotional/intellectual/mental needs. So I turned to synastry for guidance, but I’m not sure I like what I see. We’ve got a **** ton of squares! My Moon squares his Saturn!

Not that I’m going to base my judgment on synastry alone, but what do you have to say about these synastry aspects in a psychoanalyst/client relationship? The last thing I need is someone to break me down mentally (I’m going through a Sun opposite (or square, I’m not sure) Saturn transit for Christ's sake! I’m fragile. If anyone has anything uplifting to say about Sun/Saturn transits btw, I’d appreciate it ... Or maybe it’s just my life, I’m not sure. Hopefully I can figure it out in psychoanalysis!

Me/The psychoanalyst

Mars conjunct Moon
Mars conjunct Sun
Sun conjunct Uranus
Moon conjunct Neptune
Mars conjunct Mercury

Mars opposite Neptune
Moon opposite Moon

Mercury square Jupiter
Uranus square Mercury
Sun square Venus
Pluto square Jupiter
Jupiter square Mercury
Mars square Mars
Moon square Saturn
Neptune square Mercury
Venus square Pluto
Moon square Mars
Uranus square Sun
Uranus square Moon
Uranus square Neptune

Jupiter trine Venus
Mars trine Pluto
Sun sextile Mercury
Uranus sextile Venus
Sun sextile Pluto
Venus sextile Mars

How will it work out?

How on earth did you get their birthtime??

In answer to the question, the most prominent placement I had with my past therapist was his Sun conjunct my MC.

I have had this placement with several mentor figures also.

Many members like to see the charts, you can upload the charts to tinypic or imgur then post them here using the link provided.

And welcome!

I didn't. So this is a little arbitrary. I was going to put that as a disclaimer. That's why I didn't include any AC or MC or asteroids. I'm thinking (but I'm not sure) that the planets are more stationary - is that correct? On cafe astrology I know for example that you can get some synastry aspects by birth dates alone.

I'll look into posting the chart. Thank you!

Hey,

sorry, I made some additions to my post after you responded to me and forgot to mark them such, sorry about that!

Yeah, let's see the charts. I am very much still a student, but there are some experts here, hopefully they will respond.

Yes it is good to put a disclaimer if you don't have birthtime. The therapist's angles, Moon, and houses cannot be read without birth time. Some of the faster inner planets may also be out a few degrees. But we can still read quite a bit in terms of how the relationship affects your chart.

We can also see if their Sun is on or close to your MC.

In addition, I went into therapy during my Saturn return. Sure, it was hard at times, but the rewards far overshot the difficulties.

Therapy is what you make of it. You will have to work hard, the therapist walks beside you, but the work is yours, otherwise you will become dependent on the therapist and this is the opposite of what therapy tries to achieve!

Thanks again! I'll post the synastry chart. Would it be a good idea to post the composite too? Or is that even more difficult to read without an accurate birth time? When I don't have the birth time I usually put it on 12:00 PM. Is that reasonable?

There's no way to be completely sure it's my Sun/Saturn transit that's causing all these emotions, but from an astrological perspective that could be one way to explain what's been going on. Ever since it started I've been in a horrible state. It's been dreadful in every single way. I'm really hoping it will pass. My past was suddenly staring me straight in the face, and I'm hoping to work on it in analysis.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with therapy. About the dependency on your therapist, strangely, I feel like that's exactly what I would need. In every other instance in my life I have this pattern of being - not overdependent - but in fact "underdependent". Suddenly, I felt this strange urge to be dependent on someone or something. That it's crucial somehow, at this point in my life. That's why I feel I need someone who can truly meet me emotionally.

But I agree that in the end it's my own hard work who will bring me forth. And hopefully I have the strength and determination to do it!

What you may be needing to do is not "depend" but to learn healthy attachment.
Once healthy attachment is achieved, the next step is to detach healthily. A good therapist should be able to navigate this process with you.

The therapist should only ever be a model of attachment, and not an actual attachment. Try to keep this forefront in your mind, and share any fears and confusion with the therapist so they may become integrated.

You will know when it is time to tackle the past. I wouldn't let astrology make or break this decision for me. You will feel the urge. It will not be without reservation, but it's good to remember that while you can delay this process, you cannot avoid it completely, it will always be waiting for you and will continue to shape/trouble you until you process/integrate it.
Doesn't have to be through therapy either, many find a path elsewhere, through the arts or a spiritual practice. The important thing is discovering the true self!

I wouldn't bother with composite without birthtime, as it is a calculation of birthtimes, therefore it would be completely skewed. Synastry should show some insights though.

Synastry Chart / I'm the inner wheel / Analyst outer wheel non specified birth time.

(Why do I always feel like I get different aspects through astro.com than astrotheme.com or maybe I'm just reading it wrong).

Yeah, that's definitely true. Healthy attachment. Not dependence. I'll try to keep that in mind. I've been in therapy before and I've never become either attached or dependent on my therapist. They never evoke such emotions in me. We'll see how it works out in this new state of mind.

I won't. I'll see how we communicate in real life before making a judgment. But I thought synastry could provide some clues. Right now I'm both desperate and picky at the same time. I need a therapist pronto, but I won't bother to open up if we can't connect, or if I feel that he will crush instead of help me.

Thank you yet again! I just posted the synastry chart as well.

You want good/favorable aspects for Moon/Moon, Mercury/ mercury and Mercury/Moon and Sun/mercury

For example, Moon trine Moon, Moon trine Mercury, mercury trine the Sun.

The sextiles function the same way as the trines, basically

You look like you have some

I would not want Moon oppose Moon or square Moon.

I would not want Mars sq Mars or mars oppose Mars( power struggles)

I would not want Mercury sq or oppose Mercury

Wish you well, my Friend

Despite it being generational to an extent, I am very interested in their Pluto on your South Node.
This could point to you getting back in touch with previously-learned skills of transformation that you can utilise again to move on. This could happen through perceiving the therapists own personal transformational power. This would be an appropriate placement for delving back into the past to make sense of it also.

The power differential is always an interesting aspect of therapy.
I found that as soon as I perceived it to be present, it disappeared.
It may be worth you doing some reading on that. If my memory serves me, I think Carl Rogers may have written on it.

There may be flashes of insight from their Uranus near your Sun. I think a Sun in Gemini can handle this. Their Venus in Pisces appears to square your Sun, I would say this is positive for identity integration, but you may feel a little lost in the process, as their manner of relating may strike you as a bit too abstract and hard to define. But this is where growth comes from - differences.
We do not go to therapy to stay the same!

I like that they have Ceres conj. Mars, this should give a softening quality to what may otherwise have been quite a cerebral Mars.

Their Chiron in your 12th could point to exhuming very old patterns underlying current behaviour and feelings that they may have personal experience of. You will want to make sure they are able to take good care of you if they are to wander into your 12th.
Also look out for transference with this placement, I think. Transference is only problematic if the therapist's boundaries are weak, and it can be beneficial, as the therapist will feel more "human" than "godly", which is how it IS and therefore, should feel - again, reading on the power differential between therapist and client should help here.

I hope some of this helps, but please bear is mind none of what I have said is gospel. While I know quite a bit about psychology, I am still learning about astrology.

Hopefully some of our experts will come along now and put me to shame!

Thank you so much Ami Anne for the input!

I would have wanted to see some beneficial Mercury/Moon contacts, yes. But it doesn't look like we have them unfortunately. I thought maybe Moon conjunct Neptune could be good. Though Theastrologyplacemembership describes it as a double edged sword "sensitive, emotional, and empathetic rapport" yet "represents a tendency for mutual misunderstandings, confusing emotional experiences, and an avoidance of emotional confrontation. A great deal of emotional dependency is often present in these interactions. And the relationship between these two people can be needy, and it tends to cloud their vision. The Neptune person can become passively manipulative when the Moon isn’t being attentive or responsive enough."

The same to you

No, your reading was brilliant. It was a great read. Pluto on my South Node sounds really interesting. That's exactly what I want to try psychoanalysis for: "getting back in touch with previously-learned skills of transformation that you can utilise again to move on." That sounds like heaven to me. I'm so stuck.

How come Chiron in my 12th could cause transference? Transference or countertransference? Are we talking like - erotic transference or just in general? How does transference in psychoanalysis really work? I've been reading about it, but I'm not sure I can fully grasp the concept? Is it like a psychological projection? How can transference end badly if the therapist's boundaries are weak? I'm intrigued.

I'm a little worried about him being an Aries. Because I imagine they want quick results, and according to this he's also Aries moon. So I'm thinking quick, quick, quick - blunt, blunt, blunt. But, I guess that could suit my Gemini sun, and I have Mars in Aries. It could possibly bring mental stimulation, which I think is important in therapy. So, hopefully he's not just the type that nods an entire session without trying to dig further.

Thank you so much! I really enjoyed your interpretation.

Haha, I feel a little sorry for my potential psychoanalyst because I've been totally psychoanalyzing, not only our synastry, but his natal chart too. I found this aspect of his a little funny considering his profession:

Trine Moon - Pluto

He wavers between a rich and successful domestic life and social success. He has difficulty in succeeding in both. Very perceptive and given to psychoanalyzing people. A strategist. Powerful emotions and intense feelings.

*sorry, potential future psychoanalyst for snooping, but then again I may reveal my entire life to you, so I guess we're even*

it is really good you are doing it because many people in the Psych field are not good. Also, YOU need to have a simpatico with them and vice versa.

I do not like Neptune conj Mercury at all.

The Neptune can fog the Mercury and not in a good way for a therapist/patient.

It could be good for song writers etc, in cases in which creativity would need to be enhanced but in this case, more clarity is needed.

That is my opinion and I am a Masters level counselor lol

Thank you! I know, right? It's so difficult finding the right therapist. Especially I think, if you're going to start psychoanalysis, which possibly could go on for years, and where there's a lot of emphasis on the analysand/psychoanalyst relationship, that it's absolutely crucial that you click and can understand where the other person is coming from.

I don't think the synastry in this case is looking particularly bright. Do we have any forgiving aspects at all? Our conjunctions aren't especially interesting/good. No nice Moon or Mercury aspects really, and I'm not sure the sextiles and trines are strong enough to make up for all the squares and insignificant conjunctions.

But, his Venus appears to be in my 6th house though (but I'm not so sure considering I don't know his birth time), I heard that could possibly be good in a therapist/client relationship.

Well, I just have to see how we get along when we meet in person. But if anyone has got any more interpretations I'd be happy to hear them!

I see you are a newbie so Welcome

This is what I would do.

I would look for someone, in which the synastry is better because once you invest in him, it will be much harder to leave

I would strive for Moon trine/sextile Moon or Moon trine/sextile Mercury.

Thank you!!!

And thanks for the advice! Yeah, it isn't looking good judging from the synastry, but I think I might have to meet him in person first. I spoke to him over the phone and I did like his approach. But it will be interesting to see how we get along considering all the harsh aspects.

I was analyzing the synastry with my last therapist though (I'm so nosy), I only met her a couple of times, but I wouldn't say our communication was very smooth at all, and apparently we have:

Mercury conjunct Mercury (Orb 0°44)
Chiron conjunct Moon
Venus conjunct Venus
Jupiter conjunct Moon

I would have suspected that Mercury conjunction to have made communication a little easier. Or, well, it wasn't that our communication was that bad, just that our outlooks were different. We didn't really connect at all. Though, looking at the rest of our aspects I didn't find anything interesting, and no Moon/Mercury aspects. But, I'll try not to judge from synastry alone, as said.

How close were the Chiron ones? This could make for a really close relationship, at first, and then a BREAK and no really getting back.

Orb 3°21', but I'm not sure about Chiron though, since I obviously don't have her birth time either. Is it dependent on your exact birth time?

I think Chiron stays the same on each day. The Moon moves and venus does, a bit, too, I think.

Whoa! Almost exactly reversed nodes. I bet that's going to feel karmic as hell if you do meet. His Pluto on your SN.

He has Pluto conjunct NN, so I bet he's very good at exploring the inner depths of another person and helping them transform their psychological landscape. Did this person come with a high recommendation?

He also has a natal Sun/Moon conjunction. I've found these types to be extremely inspiring people. My boyfriend is one, and my mentor is another. Just like this guy, his Sun/Moon falls into your 7th house as does my mentors. If I may say so, it's a wonderful interpersonal relationship and he's pushed me to learn so many things about myself I would have never thought myself capable. Feels very good and supportive.

He loosely has a Mars/Saturn conjunction... must be a very disciplined, responsible person. My mom has this in a different sign - power and self sufficiency just radiate from her. If this is the type of vibe you like, he may very well be a good fit for you.

His Mercury in your 8th house suggests that he will intuitively grasp where you're coming from before you even have to "confess" anything. Very understanding house placement.

Other than that my only concern is his age - he's pretty damn old. Could he relate to you and your unique issues? Does he have a progressive, modern stance on things? Something to mull over.
