For example would a Taurus sun with an Aquarius Moon be more compatible with a Virgo sun with an Sagittarius moon. Or a Scorpio sun with a Capricorn moon? I know synastry aspects are important. But I'm asking about the Sun and Moon signs.

Not really, squares to the moon are a hell to live with, regardless of the planet, you don't want anything squaring a moon, but having no aspect to the sun and/or moon is also very bad, as it suggests there will be no connexion long term.

Ok I thought having compatible sun and moon signs would be a good thing.

If you have them, they're definitely good to have, just not necessary.

Not necessary? Wow well I don't think I ever would have dated a Leo if it weren't for my Leo Rising.

in my experience, compatible ascendant, moon, venus, mars and mercury signs are the most important in a relationship.

squares of sun, mars, venus and moon to the man's sun and woman's moon can create long-time attraction and commitment.

square isn't a "bad" aspect, and according to a rather large research of couples who have stayed happily married after more than 20 years, the most common aspect was the husband's sun square to the wife's moon. It has something to do with the mother of the wife, and the fact that she will not be allowed by the couple to meddle into their life or break them up. And the largest amount of divorce included husband's sun trine or opposite wife's moon.

But again in my own experience and also the people I know, if either of mercuries, venuses, marses or moons are square or even only 3 signs away and not necessarily making a square aspect, it is going to make the relationship a big emotional and physical challenge for both people.

The other factor I have found to be profoundly important for a relationship to stay long, is for the man's moon to be in a sign before the woman's moon, in a sign either trine or sextile to the woman's moon sign and the ideal is the sextile where the two will often have a telepathic relationship with each other and can often tell what the other is thinking about.

For instance if a woman's moon is in sagittaarius, her best match would be men whose suns are either in virgo or pisces, and his moon in libra.
She wouldn't get along well with a scorpio, capricorn (adjascent signs), gemini (opposite), virgo, pisces (square), taurus (inconjunct) moon. if the man's moon is in aquarius, the two can have a smooth relationship but the man will still almost never be able to tell what the woman needs, as his moon is placed after hers, making her moon 10 sign away and too unreachable for him. If the man's moon is in leo, the relationship will be very harmonious, but nothing too magical like if his moon were in libra.

girlwiththerainysoul,

Interesting opinion. You prefer Moons in sextile over trine. Other planets too?

As for me, when it comes to sextiles in synastry I only value them more than trines if they are exact, hence more effective than let's say a loose orbed trine.

girlwiththerainysoul thanks for your input I have a Taurus Sun, Aquarius moon, Venus in Pisces and Mars in Gemini. Do you think I would be compatible with someone who has a Virgo Sun, Saggitarius moon, Venus in Virgo and Mars in Libra? I've read that Aquarius Moon and Saggitarius Moon are compatible. His Mercury is in Libra mines is in Aries.
