Or more relevantly: can you have a GOOD, loving relationship with this aspect? The kind you don't look back on and think - gosh, why did I do this to myself?

I'm starting out with this guy and I was startled to see Mars opp Pluto in our composite. We're both proud people and so far we are tender and tolerant with each other but I worry about what this could mean for us further down the line.

I noticed I like to tick him off just to see how (much) I can affect him and today I just saw Jewel Mayberry's youtube video on this aspect and I facepalmed so hard.

What has your experience been with this aspect? Has anyone made it? Or at least was it worth it, did you guys not end up hating each other?

hmmm

your best chance with mars sextile to pluto is if there are planets forming a sextile /trine to this opposition, especially Neptune or venus. squares to this opposition are very difficult for a relationship .

Mars is actually opposing a stellium formed of Pluto, Venus, Mercury, Sun and Saturn, but yes, we have Neptune trining Mars and making a sextile to the stellium.
I'm wary of Neptune though, bit shady for my liking.. What's the upside, do you think? Is that where the tolerance and tenderness come from?

wow quite a stellium with pluto. I would be more wary of satrun and pluto together tha Neptune. Neptune sextile/trine to pluto is a very stabilizing aspect and yes it sshows that support ,sesnsitivity ,consideration and a healing quality is present. of course one can not isolate even this aspect from the rest of the chart when making a long term interpretation

Yes, I imagine that stellium is quite something.. what exactly, I guess we will see. Fortunately it's not very tight - it spans 10 degrees, Saturn to Pluto.
Thanks todd. I'm still hoping someone will share their experience with this aspect in the composite. I haven't seen it discussed here.. I've searched, I swear

We have it, and we also have the Neptune trine.

We've known each other for 20+ years, and been a couple for 3 1/2 years. It's not always an easy relationship, and I don't know that we will ever live together long-term (I'm pretty solitary and doubt I'll ever be able to live with anyone long term), but I'm confident we'll at least be friends for life.

I am not sure about the mars oppose pluto but I have had the square. I think it was my pride vs his ego, either of us could be the saint or sinner. He was more in my face with things and mine was more behind his back so to speak. WAR was the best way to put this but we had a lot of other aspects that always allowed up to come back and forgive the other. Funny, I just got a text from him about an hour ago. He knows just what to do to make me laugh and I think he would love for me to be his mistress as he ran off and got married to another woman on me. lol I am happy for him but my pride can't take it or deal with it again. Too hurt and damaged, too much chaos with everything that went on between us. I had no idea why he was acting the way he did at first and then later figured his mischevious butt out. He makes me laugh even when he did wrong after my anger cooled off. I guess I really loved him outside myself. As much war as we had , we also had a lot of good memories as well.
