In fact, synastry orbs vary depending on transit affecting them. Always take into account whether the aspect is applying or separating. North Node moves backward in the Zodiac: so it's applying when ahead of the other direct motion body.
Sun and Moon influence can extend a lot more than a few degrees. I use 10 degrees or so for conjunctions. Sun orb is greatest because it's powerful electromagnetically and moves more slowly than Moon or the ASC and other angles (Wheel of Houses).

There are some pretty fascinating conjunctions across the charts - but the ones I'm struggling to know how to interpret the most are the north node ones.
His NN is almost exactly conjunct my venus (by 3mins to true node).
In contrast, my NN and mars (conjunct 18mins in natal) are loosely conjunct his moon (by 3'50 to NN and 4'08 to mars). Ordinarily I'd not give this too much thought as it seems wide - but does the fact that the moon is involved make a difference?
On a similar note, we also have a wide Asc-MC conjunction (his sagittarius Asc to my MC - my MC also exact conjunct his jupiter) - but again by 4degrees.
(Intriguingly, my MC/his jupiter are in turn just 5degrees from his SN - we have these crazy energy funnels in our chart clustered around three points.)
I'm not one for overreaching, and not clinging to these aspects as a hope (there are numerous others in play, including some amazing asteroids but will leave that for another day!) - but really interested to know if anyone believes that an orb of 4deg between Asc and MC would be felt? And the same with the moon-NN/mars 4deg conjunction too.
Any wisdom/theories you'd like to share?
