A while ago I did a very small self-study with the Vertex when it is prominent in synastry, and this is my experience with the Vertex:I found one major thing to be common: that the individuals involved had already been vaguely aware of one another before becoming attracted. The Vertex appears to not work immediately but rather act as soil in which seeds are subconsciously sown, surprising us and appearing to be spontaneous when it sprouts from the ground.
I found that the Vertex more often is present in the synastry of people who have lasting connection. I think the Vertex sprouts again, if we continue that analogy, continuously, until ...? That part is where I'm not sure yet. It could be an urging to resolve some sort of karmic debt to one another. It is a constant connector between two people who share the contact.
I found that Vertex conjunctions to other points than the Ascendant also seem to work, despite literature I've read where the Vertex is generally considered only in aspect to the ASC/DSC axis.
I have found other Vertex aspects besides the conjunction to be somewhat valid but I haven't been able to nail down interpretations for them. And I have found the orb to be important when dealing with the Vertex.
You asked about the Vertex in conjunction to the Ascendant exactly. This indicates perpetual fascination and attraction on the part of the Vertex person to the character of the other person. In a romantic relationship: Just when you think you've figured them out you learn something you never knew before about them. After 25 years of marriage. You find new ways to love them each day.
If this aspect is a double whammy that means the feeling is reciprocated. It's a lovely aspect to have.
The Vertex is associated, in my studies, with a perpetual feeling of fresh growth. The other person signifies a new beginning for the Vertex.
