What happens if you have two EQUALLY tight aspects that seem to contradict each other?

For example: If Your Ascendant was exactly conjunct someone else's mars (which denotes sexual attraction) but your ascendant was also exactly squared someone's venus (which denotes some repulsion).

The conjunction is the stronger aspect there.

I don't think they contradict each other at all. Mars has a different energy from Venus. Mars would deal with things like sexual attraction, while Venus would deal more with a love attraction. They aren't the same. So, you could have a really good sexual attraction, and maybe a relationship with the person, but the relationship might fall apart after a while.

A more fair comparison would be two contradicting aspects with the same planets involved. For example, Mercury trine Jupiter, and then Mercury square Jupiter. In this case, I think it will balance itself out. Squares and oppositions aren't completely negative. They generate a connection, which can have an element of positivity to it. However, they also generate tension, which can overpower that positivity, but the trine could remove that tension a bit. Or maybe a more accurate way of looking at it is that it doesn't remove the tension, but enables them to work around it.

It's also important to consider that aspects are energy exchanges. In an aspect between Saturn and Venus, one person is going to be the Saturnine person and the other person will be the Venusian person. Which means that in the case of two contradicting aspects, they can both occur simultaneously, without cancelling one another out. It depends on who plays what role. So, you can be a positive Saturnine energy, and then be on the receiving end of a negative Saturnine energy, from another (contradicting) aspect.

Overall, it's important not to isolate a single aspect and make a judgement based on it. Looking at a chart as a whole is the best way to go.

Yeah maybe that wasn't the best example. Maybe the sexes matter? I read another thread where the males who had their venus squaring the female's ascendant found the female to be physically ugly, (but they were still attracted to them for other reasons) while the females with their venus squaring the male's ascendant just found him to not be "their type" but they too were still attracted. So the gender perhaps makes a difference.

Astrology works in aggregate form, not in particulars acting alone. They both play out. Neither one determines the whole character or outcome of the relationship.

Not necessarily. You may have reversed the interpretation, depending on exactly what else is going on in an actual chart.

First, Venus square Asc does not mean 'repulsion.' Tell me how the square dynamic changes Venus' nature of love, affection, beauty?

Venus-Asc aspects always indicate personalized attraction, affection, etc, providing that Asc figure is actually correct (a big if).

Secondly, one person's Mars conjunct another's Asc (depending on how the Mars is aspected in the Mars person's chart) can easily be felt as bossy, overly-driving, too stimulating. It is not automatically a guarantee of sexualized attraction. If your boss's Mars is right on your Asc and they are not the gender you find attractive, how do you think that plays out?
