In which instance would they be well equipped to handle such things, and which instance could being with someone unstable be too much for them to handle?

And similarly, in synastry, or even in a composite, what aspects could indicate that a partner could have some instability or mental issues, and what aspect with the other person could indicate an affinity for such, and how would the aspects need to interact for it to be favorable?

That last question sounds like a mouthful and tricky, but, in any case, whatever you have to say on the subject of possible mental instability in a relationship, I'd like to hear about it. Thanks

Something that sparked this is that I've known of some people who've actively sought out highly charged, dramatic relationships and thrived in them, especially when the other person was particularly unstable or suffering from a mental illness. This isn't to say that all people together with a mental illness are together for that reason, or that the only people with someone who exhibits instability are so because of such aspect.

This also brings me back to something I heard someone say long ago. Not to sound insensitive, and I am quoting something a man once confessed to me: "I like 'em crazy." His meaning was that he really liked women who seemed unhinged in some way.

In terms of astrology, what pops to mind right away is people who have hard Venus/Pluto aspects (the square in particular) or a lot of Pluto in general in their chart. These folks seem to attract difficult relationships into their lives subconsciously - difficult meaning dating someone who has a lot of their own personal issues (narcissism etc.) because they somehow feel they reflect a lot of their own demons.

There is the Deprez asteroid.There is a bad fortune aspect like tragedy asteroid. I have over 300 on my list, I think. If I think of more, I will tell you. Melopomene(sp) is the tragedy aspect. Deprez is the depression aspect. Nessus there may make the person seek for an abusive partner. I should write an article lol xoxoxo

let me specify, I am attracted to men of extraordinary intelligence. This tends to make them vibrate at a different frequency, inable to interact with "normal" people, always left of center, and a bit "off".. So mine have all been "crazy" geniuses.

I am not at all attracted to someone with manic depression.
