I have this aspect with someone and I am Mercury. I find that I am unable to express my feelings for her. It isn't shyness or fear of rejection. There just seems to be a barrier to deeper communication there. It's like when we are together I want to express myself but I just cant. It is hard to explain. Has anyone else experienced this with this particular aspect?

Is your Mercury in a water sign? Because you said .. express feelings.. instead of thoughts..
With this aspect I find it hard to keep the flow in a conversation alive. Talking with this person doesn’t feel natural, it’s hard to find topics of interest. The conversation feels one sided and I also get the feeling that this person doesn’t take my opinions seriously. As if I had to proof my intellectual capacity. Frankly I feel dumb around these people. Not because they’re more intelligent, but because I perceive them as unresponsive to my ideas, my feelings, my humor.

Seconding this! I've had a few friendships and relationships where my Scorpio Merc squared a Leo Saturn. We enjoyed conversation but after a while it did become harder to find topics of interest, and it took on a more 'forced' nature. I wouldn't say it has to stay that way, but a re-learning of how to communicate often needs to come into being to further the relationship there. The 'feeling dumb' sometimes came up as well- but only with certain individuals. One always looked at me as naive or 'not knowing', the other seemed more curious as to how I knew so much! The unresponsiveness or 'falling flat' feeling was very dominant as well.

I've also got this aspect with one of my siblings who has their Saturn in Aquarius. This is less intense as perhaps being Aqua is an air sign. Easier time being intellectual. But boy the communication can be difficult here. Misunderstandings in tone/intention, especially. A lot of assumption that anything said is an 'order to do something' rather than just conversation or suggestion.

My experience as Mercury is sometimes he doesn't respond to the things I say. He would just go "Oh, I see..." or just a nod, and I would feel like I've said something boring or silly. He doesn't criticise me though.
