Are you asking about illusion because of Neptune? Neptune most commonly involved projection, romanticism and idealism, not so much deception as in malicious cheating/lying. If there's any deception, it is most likely we deceiving ourselves into thinking they're something which they're not because we had idealised them and put them on a pedestal. The Neptune person hates to burst your bubble so they'll try to live up to the reputation you've given them. E.g. you tell them "Oh... you're such a kind person" and the Neptune person will try to be a "saint" in front of you even though they're not and they will slip... and when they do, you feel deceived. I think this could be played out both ways, not sure.

Neptune hard aspects can bring up themes of over idealisation and confusion (esp. the squares) so if you get a lot of this in both synastry/composite there will be confusion about the partnership, who your partner really is and what they're really saying. You can swing from totally trusting each other to total mistrust. And again there will be feelings of being deceived.

Neptune has lotsa empathy... you'll wonder, "Maybe they didn't mean to hurt me... Maybe it's partly my fault... Maybe they were in a difficult situation..." and you can get caught in it for a long time.... that's until your bubble bursts.

The negative manifestations are usually with harsh aspects. The conjunction can go either way depending on how each handle their Neptune. The sextiles/trines are nice and glue 2ppl together in a nice, romantic dream.
